Awards and Achievements IRel has fairly good record in its performance during last 50years.

Before commissioning of OSCOM , IREL improved its sales turnover from 160million to 238 million in 35 years recording marginal profit every year. Failure of the chemical plant of OSCOM however resulted in the onset of decade along loss making era of the company from the year 1987 onwards. The decision to step the chemical plant completed with all out team effort to achieve name plate capacity for the mining and mineral separation plants resulted in golden era of IREL from 1997-98 onwards. Total sales turnover share of export and profit after tax started improving by traps and bounds and the company recorded increasing profit in all the six years during 1997-2003. IREL received prestigious silver trophy of SCOPE award for excellence and outstanding contribution to the public sector management. Special turn around category for the year 1999-2000. In the year 2000-2001 IREL IREL posted all time high sales turnover exceeding Rs 2600million with export component of over Rs1000 million . In addition to production and financial performance, IREL has accepted in the areas of marketing safety and human resource management.

Production Department Production department performs the function of converting the input into finished products . IREL is engaged in the process of mining raw sand and separation of individual items. so the production process of IREL starts from the collection of raw sand for classification into individual items like Illmanite Rutile , Zircon , sillimanite , zirflor .Annual production capacity of IREL Chavara is as follows.

Illmanite 1, 50,000tones Rutile Zircon-5,5000 - 12000

Sillimanite 7000 tonnes Zirflor -5000

Production Process Production process starts with the collection of beach sand IRE uses the following two methods. Seawashing There is heavy mineral deposits over a length of 22.5km, they are found over a coastal belt having an average width of 800meters. The sea wave deposits the mineral sand on the beach line and it is collected by using bulldozers. Then it is send to the mineral separation plant Dredging IREL uses mineral recovery plant for dredging for improving the quality and increasing the production a 14 core MRP was set up with the technical collaboration of an Australian company. The MRP consist of a floating dredging plant which could be moved from one place to another. The plant is placed in an area of having a water depth of 9 meters.. The sand along with water is sucked into the main unit. Then the mixture is send to a storage tank called trammel and from these it is sending for separation. MRPcan dredge about 40 to 60 tons per shift. The raw sand having an average of 40%minerals is fed to the concentrate Upgrading Plant (CUP) and upgrade to 93% is also concentrated in the CUP. The concentrate from CUP is sent to HUP and from there to mineral separation plant for separating minerals Mineral Separation plant The heavies from the HUP are fed to mineral separation plant and separated into individual minerals. The process involved I the mineral separation are conductivity separation, Magnetic separation, gravity separation and Froth floatation. Conductivity Separation It is done using high tension electrostatic separation and two fractions namely conductivity and non conductivity are separated out. Magnetic separation The conductivity fraction containing of illmanite rutile and leucoxene is then subjected to electromagnetic separation. There are two types of magnetic seperatorsused, they are Low intensity magnetic separator forllmanite and High Intensity magnetic separator for magnetic fraction. The non conductivity fraction is also subject ot high intensiy magnetic separation.

Gravity Seperation It is mainly used to separate out heavy and light fraction of minerals . There are three types of gravity separation. They are 1, Spiral gravity separation In this the light fractions are thrown out aside and the heavies with high density are collected down 2, Wet table Gravity separation It is a moving table of water that seperates out the light and heavy fractions. 3, Floatex Seperation This is a column type of gravity separator. The input is fed from the top and water high pressure and force is pumped from the other and thus the low density fraction are separated aside and the heavier are collected. Floatation Method This uses some chemicals for this prupose such as sodium silicate and oleis with which is used for the separation of sillimanite.

STORES DEPERTMENT

Stores department It is an auxiliary department of production . The main duty of this department is to store an supply inventory to various departments . IREL producing various types of products such as illmanire, Rutile zircon, Zirflor etc. So it is the duty of the stores department tokeep various products in varo\ious stores . IREL have the efficient storing facility to keep the products without affecting the quality and quantity of the products. IREL always keep thee stores were filled with raw sands for avoiding unnecessary delays in production . IT is the duty of the store department to keep the raw material requirement for the production purpose . Stock is divided into two categories.  Capital Items  Consumable items It is the duty of the store department to issue the purchase requirements and which is to be affording by the controlling authority for procurement. Tender system is used for purchase of items. Inventory statistics is prepared once in every three months abd send to the head office at Mumbai. Usually for controlling inventory the ABC system of inventory control are using. The main functions are :Control of Inventorty Procurment of Materials Issue of material to different departments Record the rate of consumption Issue of purchase requirement

PURCHASE DEPARTMENT IREL is engaged in the mining and separation. It doesn t require the purchase of raw materials for the production process. But the purchase department performs the function of purchasing auxiliary material required for the production. IT purchase the material as per the material as per the requirement of the project department . It makes the purchase of office stationeries and equipments. so in IREL the purchase department is not meant for the purchase of raw materials . It is meant for the auxiliary materials which helps the production process and other office equipment. Method of Purchase Items required by each department are collected and a list of al the items are prepared Then check out the list of available lenders for each product and prepare a list of all the vendors Then the company invited tendors for each product After analyzing all the tendors the company will select the best one After that they made negotiation with the party if needed and place the order
