Ang lawas may madamo nga mga parte pero isa lang ka lawas. Kaangay man sini ang mga tumuluo. Bisan nagkalain-lain ang mga abilidad nga ginhatag sa tagsa-tagsa sa aton, kita isa lang ka lawas bilang lawas ni Cristo.

Kay kita tanan, Judio man ukon indi, ulipon ukon hilway, ginbautisohan sa isa lang ka Espiritu agod mangin isa ka lawas. Kag isa man ka Espiritu ang ginpainom sa aton nga tanan. 14 Ang lawas sang tawo isa lang pero may madamo nga mga parte.

FEAST OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI: A REFLECTION _________________

REV. FR. GERARDO P. ARROYO PAROCHIAL VICAR This Sunday, the Sunday after the Johns version of the gospel Feast of the Blessed Trinity is the feast (Jn 6:56-59).

of the Corpus Christi, commonly known in the Western Catholic Church as the Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus. The appearance of Corpus Christi as a feast in the Christian calendar was primarily due to the 13 th century Augustinian nun Juliana of Lige. Juliana had veneration for the Blessed Sacrament and longed for a special feast in its honor. The celebration of the Corpus Christi became widespread in 1263 when Pope Urban IV investigated claims of a Eucharistic miracle at Bolsena, in which a consecrated host began to bleed. In 1264 the papal bull entitled Transiturus de hoc mundo instituted the feast of the Corpus Christi on Maundy Thursday throughout the entire Latin Rite. The Feast of Corpus Christi was established to create a feast focused solely on the Holy Eucharist. During the time of St. Thomas Aquinas he was commissioned to write a new liturgy to be used not only during the Feast of Corpus Christi but also at events related to the Blessed Sacrament. The hymn Aquinas composed entitled Pange Lingua is also used on Holy Thursday during the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose. The last two verses of the hymn, the Tantum Ergo is also sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. O Salutaris Hostia another hymn sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament makes up the last two verses of Verbum Supernum Prodiens, Aquinas hymn for Lauds of Corpus Christi. Aquinas also composed the propers for the Mass of Corpus Christi, including the sequence Lauda Sion Salvatorem. The epistle reading for the Mass was taken from Pauls First Epistle to the Corinthians (1 Cor 11:23-29), and the Gospel reading was taken from the

In 1970, the feast for the Body of Christ held every Thursday after Trinity Sunday and the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ with its feast on July 1 were combined as one and is celebrated every Sunday after the Trinity Sunday. In the Western Catholic Church, even in our predominantly Catholic nation this popular devotion would not be complete if there is no procession of the Holy Eucharist through the public streets of a particular parish followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Through the passage of time, however, it seemed that this Catholic custom was left forgotten. The practice of processing the Holy Eucharist in the streets of Catholic parishes these recent years is now undergoing a new and revitalized resurgence in many Catholic nations worldwide. The adoration and devotion of the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist is at present experiencing an amazing renewal. This is visibly seen in the presence of the Eucharistic chapels in various parishes all around the nation. After the Catholic faithful received the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Holy Communion, they join the procession into the streets, pausing once in a while for solemn worship, singing hymns of adoration to the Eucharistic Lord enthroned inside the Monstrance. This procession is a symbol of the enduring redemptive mission of Jesus Christ to the world. I have some fond memories of this beautiful event which stretches back to my early seminary formation in the Semi nary of St. Pius X in Roxas City, Capiz in the early eighties. Fully of mundane training I found myself joining these annual processions during my seminary training. The Archbishop of Capiz used to lead the procession from his residence while holding the

monstrance followed by the priests of the Archdiocese then by us seminarians and followed last by the lay faithful until we reached the Cathedral about two and a half kilometers away. During the procession the Body of Jesus present in the Holy Eucharist is enthroned in the monstrance, a sacred vessel made of precious metal for public worship. This procession or worship is not limited within the confines of the Church sanctuary but rather it flows into the major street of the parish. Through and by this way we allow our faith to inform and transform all facets of our lives as Catholic Christians. In this external act which is the public procession, the people are reminded that God loves the world that He still sends His Son in perpetuity through us as members of His Sons Body here on earth the Church. This procession also reminds us of the baptismal calling of every Christian - to carry on the mission of Jesus through the Church until His return at the end time. At the interior level, it also stands for the universal call to sanctity, to a continuing conversion in Christ. We who were baptized are also called to enter int5o an abiding and real communion with the Trinitarian God. Our God comes to dwell within us and we live our lives now in Him by letting Him to reign in all facets of our lives. This is known as unity of life. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, our participation in the sacraments, particularly through the Eucharist, we now abide in God. We live in God and

The whole month of June is devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. There were four great revelations of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary. Four times Christ appeared to her and left in her custody precious secrets, many of which have been buried with her in the grave. From that small Visitation Convent chapel where our Saint received her eternal Commissions, there has gone out a veritable avalanche of love, of divine piety and of supreme joy. There has always been Catholic devotion to the Sacred Heart. St. Margaret Mary emphasized and developed its details. Christ urged St. Margaret Mary to prophesize the devotion of the Nine Fridays, the devotion of Communions of Reparation and the devotion of the Holy Hour. For there are faithful especially receiving Holy Communion of the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the following promises were made: 1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their families. 3. I will console them in all their pains and trials. 4. I will be their assured refuge in life and especially in death. 5. I will shed abundant blessings upon their undertakings. 6. Sinners will find in my Heart an infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Lukewarm souls will be rendered fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall rise rapidly to greater perfection. 9. I will bless every house in which an image of Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honoured. 10. I will give to priests the talent of moving the hardest hearts. 11. The names of those who propagate this devotion shall be written in My Heart from which they shall never be effaced. 12. Publish, and cause it to be published, all over the world, that I will set no limits to My grace for those souls that come to seek them in this, My Heart. With these, we are inviting each and everyone to attend the Novena everyday before the 6:15 AM mass. The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will be on July 1, 2011, first Friday of the month. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus shower us with His abundant blessings!

God lives in us, as said. As the monstrance is being carried along the streets of the parish, we carry Him into our home and into the streets. As we receive His Body and Blood we possess that divine life within us Jesus life, the life of the Father and that of the Holy Spirit. So, clear are the reasons why the Feast of the Corpus Christi follows the Feast of the Holy Trinity in our Churchs calendar. It is to show the profound connection through the Eucharist we are invited into a Trinitarian communion and then sent into the world to bring Jesus so that all peoples may join us. This feast is an invitation for us to once again affirm our faith in the implications of the Incarnation of Jesus. To a Christian is fundamentally a relational truth. Consequently, however, this reality demands from us a kind of a non concomitant life to the world. We must make a stand and fight off those temptations that lead us to us to choose the banal over the holy. It is very clear then that this feast is a mystery whose end is to anchor its roots in a very profound manner in all aspects of our lives. The feast of the Corpus Christi is a gift to be received and lived by us. As Christians it is our basic calling to commune with the living and true Triune God. This oneness will result into an active day to day meeting with our God who continuously calls us to incessant conversion. This conversion happens in every facet of our lives and in less expected moments like our inward struggles towards sanctity, in our travails and failures, in the midst of problems and anxieties and even in our pain. The God of love Who knows us much more than we know ourselves is just purifying and refining us just like the refiners fire that refines the gold to be used in making the many monstrances that will hold the sacred Body of Jesus Christ our Lord. May the grace of this feast fill us with courage to live our baptismal vows as authentic members of Christs Body here in earth the Church.
