DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
Recase:
We are frequently asked exactly what we do when we Recase or Blueprint a gearbox. The following may be of assistance:
The bearing carrier is removed, but not disassembled, and the pinion
shaft, clutch mechanism, and usable studs are removed from the old case. The side cover assemblies are removed and disassembled, as the preload and backlash must be reset. The differential is not disassembled. A new reverse idler spigot is installed, and the reverse gear backlash set. The pinion is set up to the original depth in the new case. New stub axle and input seals are installed, and the differential bearing preload and ring and pinion backlash are set to original specification. The shift forks are then reset to match the new case, and final assembly is done.
Blueprint:
An estimate is prepared detailing the parts and labor required. The estimate is provided to the customer for approval prior to commencing work. Any required casting repairs or extra services such as REM are accomplished. All components are prepared, set up, and assembled using Factory tooling and fixtures. The pinion setting is verified by running a pattern to determine the exact ideal position. If necessary, the ring and pinion are lapped in place for perfect mating1. The preload on all tapered roller and ball bearings is customized to the horsepower of the engine and type of use (we have determined the minimum possible friction for each situation). The shift rails are trued; the detents radiused and the rails are polished to a high luster for shifting smoothness. The shift rail bores are trued and polished. Shift detent springs and balls are matched for perfect shifting feel. The shift forks are aligned and shimmed precisely so that no shift fork drag exists when the gears are engaged. Our Snap Shift modification is performed to speed the diagonal upshifts, decreasing shift time to that of a sequential.

REM(tm) is a finishing process that evens-out the surface of steel products. The procedure involves two steps. The first step, referred to as the "Refinement Process", involves a chemical interaction on the surface of the part. A soft, thin (one micron) film is formed on the surface of the part. The part then interacts with the ceramic media in a special vibratory bowl. During this interaction, the film is physically removed from the "peaks" of the processed part and the "valleys" are unaffected. The chemically induced film re-forms only at the peaks that are interacting with the vibratory media, and the process repeats itself. Over time, the peaks are removed, leaving only the valleys, producing the improved micro finish. The second step is referred to as the "Burnish Process." After the required micro finish is achieved, a mild alkaline mixture is introduced. After a relatively short period a polished, chrome-like finish is produced. In addition to the polishing effects, this step effectively removes all traces of the film formation from the "Refinement Process." WHY SHOULD I USE REM ISOTROPIC FINISHING? EQUIPPED WITH
The Taylor Race Engineering Chain Drive Differential System is equipped with the Quaife Torque-Biasing Differential. Under normal use, it behaves as an open differential until a loss of traction occurs at one wheel. When the loss of traction is sensed, the differential automatically biases up to 80% of the engine torque to the wheel with the better traction. (The description torsen applies to torque-biasing differentials is derived fromTorque-Sensing.) The operation is automatic; no adjustment is required or desired on the differential. All chassis adjustments are made with springs, sway bars and shocks.

In 1972, McLane (Mac) and Adelle Tilton founded Tilton Engineering in El Segundo, California. Tilton Engineerings mission was to establish a reputation as a technological leader in racing components and make them available to everyone. The OTII metallic clutch provides an excellent combination of light weight, strength and price. Capable of handling the highest horsepower cars, it can also be set up to be gentle on smaller engines. It is important not to utilize a diaphragm spring stronger than necessary. We recommend a BUFF spring for Sprite, Midget, Formula Ford and other Small Engines. Taylor Race Engineering, at the request of SCCA Enterprises, has developed a system to eliminate the problems of false neutrals and double shifting inherent with the originally supplied actuator. The design of the new TRE system of output ratchet and pawls eliminates these problems provided that the driver does his part by positively shifting to the stops. The system is installed in all new actuators sold by TRE, but can be retrofitted into original actuators in the TRE shop. See priced list below.

Originally formed as Webster Racing Enterprizes in 1968 by T.M. " Web" Webster his son Marv Webster and Michael Ruckman to build replacement gears and parts for the Mark Series Hewland Transaxles and expanded to the LG transaxle soon thereafter. Today, Webster has expanded its manufacturing capabilities to include gears and replacement parts for many Hewland Transaxles such as the LD200. In addition, Webster manufactures vintage and other custom applications for customers worldwide. All Webster Gears are manufactured from American Made, Aircraft Grade 9310 or 9310 VAR Steel and REM Finished for optimal performance. 9310 Steel - This chromium nickel molybdenum alloy is a carburizing grade of alloy steel capable of attaining high case hardness with high core strength and toughness. It also has exceptional impact & overstress tolerance properties. Vacuum arc remelting (VAR) is a secondary melting process for production of steel with the best chemical, mechanical and cleanliness properties for highly demanding applications.The VAR process has revolutionized the specialty metallurgical industry, and has made possible the incredibly well controlled materials required in the biomedical, aviation, and aerospace fields. REM(tm) is a finishing process that evens-out the micro surface of steel products to a virtual mirror-finish. Orders may be entered by phone, FAX, e-mail, letter or from our Website. Please order by part number, as this will ensure correct shipment. Note that in many cases a cross-reference is provided to show both our part number and the manufacturer's part number. If the part number is not available, we can usually identify the part from your description and send the correct part. However, we can assume no responsibility for correctness unless ordering by part number.
Payment Information
Charge Cards
Shipping charges are based on the actual UPS or Federal Express charges. No flat rate shipping charge that makes you pay too much on lightweight orders. We also use the least expensive rate offered by UPS and FedEx to insure the lowest shipping costs. Taylor Race Engineering, Inc. will ship Government Post at the customers request. However, if shipment is made by Parcel Post, the entire risk will be assumed by the customer. Taylor Race Engineering, Inc. will accept no responsibility for non-delivery, loss, delays, or inconvenience.

Emergency Shipments
Non-U.S.A. Customers
Non-USA customers should use VISA or Master card if possible, as the exchange is automatically computed at the most favorable rate. Payment may be made by bank draft or money orders in U.S. dollars.
If you have an emergency need, we can ship for delivery to your motel or to the race track. Please check with the motel or race track for the correct UPS or FedEx address before ordering. UPS and FedEx will deliver to many tracks on Saturday.
Shipping Information
If your surface shipment order is recieved before 1:00 PM Central Time, it will ship the same day. Air shipment orders must be received prior to 5:00 PM Central Time to be shipped the same day.
Errors in shipping occasionally happen. If we send the incorrect item, well be happy to exchange it. If you order the wrong item, the return is subject to the terms and conditions below. 1.) Return Goods Authorization is required. Call for RGA number. Have your invoice available, as the invoice number is required. 2.) A copy of the original invoice with the RGA number must be enclosed with the returned item. 3.) Parts returned or exchanged, must be received by Taylor Race Engineering in new, unused condition. The packaging must also be in new undamaged condition. 4.) A restocking fee of 10% will apply to all returns (not exchanges) and a restocking fee of 20% will apply to any return or exchange involving damaged packaging. 5.) Any merchandise held over 60 days may not be returned for any reason. 6.)Special orders may not be returned for refund. 7.) Used parts may not be returned for refund.
Auto Racing imposes extreme stress on all components involved, and the installation and preparation of racing parts is beyond the control of Taylor Race Engineering, Inc. There is no warranty of any sort, express or implied, on any parts or products, supplies, or services sold by Taylor Race Engineering. If you are not satisfied with an item purchased from Taylor Race Engineering, please let us know and we will do everything possible to make it right.
