(Prevention of Unwanted Reproductive Infections) Music Video and the Level of Knowledge and Attitude on Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Adolescents Problem: What is the effect of P.U.R.I. music video in enhancing the level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections and attitude on abstinence to prevent sexually transmitted infections among adolescents? Aims and Objectives: The research aims to determine the present level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections among adolescents, their attitude on abstinence, provide information about sexually transmitted infections specifically on its definition, signs and symptoms as well as some of its examples, enhance their attitude on abstinence as a means to prevent sexually transmitted infections and develop an alternative way of health education that can relate to adolescents. Methodology and Instruments: Using a quasi-experimental research design, pre-tests and posttests were administered to 161 adolescents assigned to experimental (n=83) and comparison (n=78) groups. The P.U.R.I. music video, which depicts the importance of abstinence to prevent STIs, was shown to the experimental group only. The data gathered were recorded and subjected to independent and paired t-tests. Discussion: Moderate level of knowledge and high level of attitude were demonstrated by both groups in the pre-test. However, post-test results of the experimental group showed a high level of knowledge while the comparison group showed the same results as that of their pre-test. The level of attitude also showed significant increase in the experimental group. Conclusion/Implications: The P.U.R.I. music video was able to enhance adolescents knowledge on STIs and attitude on STI prevention. Further studies should be made among other groups of adolescents and future researchers should use this new strategy to prevent the spread of other disease conditions. Implications include that the music video be promoted by the Department of Health through the local media making the music video available to the public. Also, a Tagalog version can be made so that adolescents in the Philippines, especially in the marginalized society, can fully relate and learn more. Future researchers may help improve the study by including external variables such as culture and education. The P.U.R.I. music video may be the answer to the alarming increase of STIs in the Philippines. Keywords: STIs, adolescents, health education, music video, knowledge, attitude
