The Hospital is currently negotiating with SEIU-UHW West (,'SEIU',). The contract has been extended to July 30, 2011 . The Hospital's proposals have been consistent with our commitment to ensuring quality care, competitive wags and benefits, faimess and equity across the organization and future sustainability. tselow is a charl with details of the key proposals made by the Hospital and SEIU's response.
Wages Hospital's Propcal
A comprehensive review of the local market shows that as a result of the 19olo wage increase received by SElU+epresented over the past four years (not including step increases), wages for most positions are above market. The Hospital has proposed that wages be held at current levels for SElU*epresented positions in the first year of this contract with the

Hospital's Proposal In response to the continuing escalation of health benefits costs, the Hospital must make changes today that will to ensure sustainability in the future. As such the hospital has proposed that employees make a 10o/o contribution toward the cost of the medical and dental plans for themselves and their dependents. Even with employees paying for a portion of their coverage, the Hospital will still be paying more toward health benefits this year than last year.

Market data indicates that our premium pay practices are above our local market. As a result the Hospital is proposing that cedain types of premium pay be reduced as a responsible reaction to market changes. The specific proposals include:

Holiday Worked Premium: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Yea/s Day at double time; Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day and MLK at time and y2; Per diem Differential: Change from 25olo differential to 20olo;

Shift differential*venings: change from Llo/o to 5o/o Shift differential-nights: change from 20o/o to l5o/o Weekend differential: change from 10o/o to 5olo Return to work in less than 12 hours paid at I % time. Remove additional premium for returning in less than 8 hours.

PTO/Learr Hospital's Propo$al As an organization, we must prepare ourselves to meet the challenges of declining volumes and changes to our reimbursement. The cost of providing benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans and paid time off has increased dramatically over the past several years. El Camino Hospital, like many other healthcare organizations, has had to look for ways to respond to this unsustainable trend. Making changes to the PTO policies is one of the ways we can manage those costs. Note, no one will lose any ffo already accrued due to these changes.

El Camino Hospital has paid approximately $500,000 into the SEIU-UHW Education Fund over the past four years on behalf of El Camino Hospital employees.

Eliminate Hospital contribuuon to the SEIU-UHW Education fund.

The Hospital and the union are continuing to negouate on a regular basis. The next negotiation session will be held on July 21, 2011 from 10:30 to 3:00 in Old Main Meeting Room D & E. The Hospital and SEIU have agreed to meet with a Federal Mediator on July 28h (and possibly luly 29fr) if an agreement has not been reached.
Negotiations are open to anyone who wishes to attend and observe, Keep in mind you must be off-duty or on a rest or meal break to attend.
