Get Ready for Hunting Season!

Sportsmans Liquidation, LLC: the rednecks TJ Maxx
chelle Belisle and Eugene Matos, visiting from Canada, had fun trying on clothes. Michelle left the store with penguin soccer socks. Eugene coveted the blaze orange hat. The store also benefits from being near the Alamo Drafthouse; people arriving early for a show often time come in to browse. Like T J Maxx, Sportsmans Liquidation takes what it can get, when it can get it. The selection is determined more by availability than season. But shopping out of season can save you a lot of money. A mom and pop sized store, Sportsmansliquidation is a kin to a Gander Mountain or a Bass Pro shop, but with significant savings. Dan and his staff welcome you to stop by and browse the selection; you never know what you might end up taking home. Contact Sportsmansliquidation at (540) 868-8243 or at www. sportsmansliquidation.com

Whatever the cause of the liquidation by the manufacturer, Sportsmansliquidation brings the savings to its customers. Dan Wherley, the manager of the Kernstown store, says their primary customer base is hunters and fishermen. On a recent day, regular customers Ron and Taylor Kinzey, of Strasburg, stopped in to buy some ammunition. Mi-

Everything you need to get ready for your adventure in the great outdoors, other than guns, is available at Sportsmans Liquidation, LLC, at 185 Kernstown Commons Blvd, in Kernstown. Sportsmans Liquidation bills itself as the Redneck T J Maxx. According to owner Ben Locker, you never know what you will find in the store; the selection of hunting, camping, fishing gear and more changes every day. One thing you can be certain of is discounted pricing of 50% to 80%. Sportsmans Liquidation started in 2008 in Wayne, PA. Next month it will open its twentieth store in Pittstown, PA. With so many stores to stock, the company is able to deal directly with name-brand manufacturers to get its products factory direct. Sometimes the goods are a close-

National eyes closely watching Virginia senate race

By Jonathan Lucci Frederick County Report Majority control of the US Senate will hang precariously in the balance on election night next November. While most eyes will be fixed on the top of the ballot and President Obamas reelection effort, many political observers will be watching Virginias Senate race just as closely. The Democratic majority in the Senate is small. So many vul-

nerable Democrats are up for reelection that they cannot afford to lose Virginia or they may well find themselves with the Republicans in control of both houses and possibly the White House. Republicans are equally determined to capture Virginia and gain the powerful control they need to repeal President Obamas agenda.

The race is expected to be costly and likely bitter and negative, as are all the races in this political environment of hyper-partisanship. Both candidates are seasoned campaign veterans and well known throughout the state, therefore building name recognition will not be a problem. The Republicans are going with

ticularly with behind the scenes preparations for organization and strategy. The race will very likely decide the complexion of the US Senate going forward and voters in Frederick County will have a very large say in who will control the majority in the upper house.

US Senate candidate Tim Kaine former Senator George Allen, who was defeated by current retiring Senator Jim Webb. Allen is hoping that six years will help erase the memory of him making an ethnically offensive comment at one of his rallies to a staffer from Webbs campaign. Before that misstep Allen had been popular and distinguished enough to be considered heavily for a Presidential run in 2008. The Democratic candidate is Tim Kaine, the former popular and moderate governor and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee. His time at the DNC and its close relationship with President Obama will likely impact Kaine negatively in the eyes of the moderate voters who thought so highly of him as governor. However, his position on abortion (Kaine is a vocally pro-life Roman Catholic) should help him with the centrist independent voters that will decide this race. The man at the top of the ballot will have a mixed impact on the race. President Obamas name being directly above Kaines will likely hurt the Democrats chances to win Virginia, unless an unlikely dramatic improvement in the economy and Obamas approval numbers occurs. On the other hand, Obama will be investing a large amount of ground

Left, US Senate Candidate George Allen resources to get the vote out, and Obama voters will likely also vote for Kaine. Particularly in Northern Virginia, Obamas turnout effort could give Kaine the edge he needs to win. The next year should see the campaign heat up gradually, par-

Wayside Inn vs. Wayside Theatre

As many people know, the Wayside Theatre issued an urgent appeal during the dog days of summer; they need to raise $90,000 in 45 days or the stage will go dark. According to Artistic Director Warner Crocker, the depressed economy, loss of ticket sales, and long- and short-term debt combined to bring the Theatre to such a critical financial junction. As of Tuesday, the Theatre believes it has reached the half-way point in its fundrais-

ing. Following the death of Mr. Bernstein in 2008, the privately-owned Wayside Inn was auctioned off; in June 2009, the Charons were the successful bidders at auction, and have run the Wayside Inn

Sherando rebounds from tough week to beat Musselman

stands. Even after it became clear they were headed for a loss, the Applemen kept striving and returned a kickoff for a touchdown late in the game, a breakdown in special teams that the Sherando coaches were clearly unhappy with. The final score when the clock reached triple zeros was 49-21 in favor of the Warriors, giving them a gratifying win that helped erase much of the bitterness from last weeks heartbreaking defeat against Martinsburg. The Warriors showed tremendous explosiveness on offense and played well on defense after initially breaking on the opening drive of the game. If any real weakness was found in the Warriors on Friday night it was their special teams, which allowed several returns for touchdowns by the Applemen. Next week Sherando will travel for their first road game at Washington high school, taking on yet another team from West Virginia. Certainly Coach Bill Hall and his Warriors will expect and hope for a similar offensive explosion that Friday night as well.

Recognition at Bass-Hoover Elementary School

Friday, September 9 - 11, 2011, 9:00 a.m. The third grade team at Bass-Hoover is making a display in the hall. Each child is cutting out their hand print on red, white, or blue construction paper. They are going to write a sentence telling why they are proud to be an American or what they think is good about living in the United States. Their hands will be displayed in a large circle around a big map of the U.S.A. The circle of hands will stand for the unity of the people of United States and how, when we work together as one, all things are possible. In addition, Bass-Hoovers head custodian David Dixon will do the morning announcements at Bass-Hoover on September 9. Mr. Dixon has been deployed to Afghanistan twice since the 9/11 attacks and may share some information about his service. Students are also learning My Country tis of Thee and the school will have a school-wide sing-a-long, led by a group of students, during the morning announcements.

Mural from Sherando High School, home of the Warriors

By Jonathan Lucci Frederick County Report The Sherando Warriors walked into Arrowhead Stadium on Friday night beneath the blazing lights with their minds set on evening their record at 1-1. The Warriors had walked onto the same field a week before and after putting up a valiant fight fell to the Bulldogs of Martinsburg, the defending AAA West Virginia state champions. This week the Warriors were facing another West Virginia team, the Musselman Applemen. The Applemen got off to a good start against Sherando, driving the ball down the field and putting it in the endzone on a drive that likely unsettled the Warrior fans watching and hoping for a win. Tre Porter put their minds at ease when he returned the ensuing kickoff and danced and roared past the Applemen defenders for the tying touchdown. From that point on it was Sherandos game to lose as their offense, which had been stagnant and scoreless the week before, came to life with explosive power as tailbacks Porter

and Joe Ojo offered a one-two punch that the Applemen were powerless to stop. Both Quarterbacks Jalen Briscoe and Reid Enstminger were reliable and at times spectacular. At certain times it looked like the Applemen might come back and their effort was certainly commendable, as they kept the game close enough and showed enough fight to keep the fans watching in the
