PREFABRICATED WALL
PANELS

PREFABRICATED WALL PANELS

La Rochere produce precast glass block wall panels that can be used internally and externally. The panels are manufactured in a white mortar under factory controlled conditions.

Precast wall panels offer many benefits : Uniformity of joints Modular dry fix panels Ease and speed of installation Standard size panels The advantages of quality control
Panels can only be produced incorporating glass blocks from the La Rochere range. See the full selection of glass block sizes, colours and patterns available in Section 2 of the binder. Wall panels cannot be used for horizontal applications like roof lights. Glass Block Technology do have a range of precast floor pavers / roof lights, see Section 8 : Floor Pavers or visit www.glassblocks.co.uk/floorpanels La Rochere produce four types of precast wall panels : 1. Standard size panels 2. Connecting panels 3. Interlocking panels 4. Bespoke panels to suit individual projects.

NOTES RELATING TO ALL FOUR TYPES OF PRECAST WALL PANELS :

Even though the glass block panels are precast concrete, the golden rules of glass block installation still apply. For example : Glass blocks are not load bearing, a lintel should be incorporated Expansion fibre should be incorporated. See precast wall panel data sheets Glass block panels need to be weather proofed

CALCULATING OPENING SIZES AND EXPANSION JOINTS

To calculate the minimum opening size, these dimensions should always be a minimum of at least 10mm larger at each end of the panel to allow for the expansion fibre, for example :

PREFABRICATED WALL PANELS

CONNECTING PANELS
Connecting panels are made to order with the elimination of either one or two borders as the photo opposite shows.

SPECIFICATION
Connecting panels are produced with 190x190x80 glass blocks with 10mm joints and a 40mm perimeter border.

WEIGHT
The weight of each panel is the same as the standard panels detailed minus the weight of either one or two of the perimeter borders.
Precast connecting panel

Shown illustrated below are two examples of how connecting panels work : (Ref 34) (Ref 44) (Ref 34)

10mm joints to be executed on site

Vertical joint based on three standard panels (Ref 34) minus one edge of the perimeter border and one standard panel (Ref 44) minus two edges of the perimeter border.

Horizontal joint based on two standard panels (Ref 45)

When the panels are being installed on site, the connecting joint should be 10mm, so all the horizontal and vertical joints modulate. Glass Block Technology can provide Precast panel matching mortar.

Refer to datasheet GBT/0024 for installation systems.

STANDARD INTERLOCKING PANELS
Interlocking panels are available in the panel sizes detailed below.

SPECIFICATION
Interlocking panels are only produced with 190x190x80 La Rochere Glass blocks. The perimeter border at each end is 50mm wide where the panel will be secured into each jamb of the opening. The horizontal and vertical joint widths of interlocking panels are 20mm. The top and bottom horizontal joints of the panels are 10mm. When another interlocking panel is placed on top the two 10mm joints double up to create a horizontal joint of 20mm. The maximum width that La Rochere will produce in an interlocking precast panel is 8 blocks wide.

Precast interlocking panel

The principle of the interlocking panels is as follows :

REF S22 420 x 500 - 19kg

REF S23 420 x 710 - 28kg

REF S22 420 x 920 - 35kg

WEIGHT
REF S22 420 x 1130 - 42kg

The weight of each panel is detailed along side its respective code and dimensions. Horizontal Joint : Each joint at the panel intersection is 20mm. The joint should be mortared over using precast panel matching mortar.

REF S22 420 x 1340 - 50kg

MAXIMUM PANEL SIZE

REF S22 420 x 1550 - 58kg

The maximum width of an interlocking panel is 8 blocks wide. A slip joint or horizontal beam should be incorporated every 6 metres in height.

BESPOKE MADE TO MEASURE PANELS
Custom made panels can potentially offer solutions to incorporating glass blocks into all variety of straight and curved applications. Tilting chassis and ventilation blocks can be incorporated and all manner of colour combinations can be achieved. Bespoke precast panels are subject to your ideas being submitted to the La Rochere Technical Department for approval and to ascertain the feasibility and best solution to producing the panels.

TILTING CHASSIS
La Rochere can precast wall panels to include tilting chassis in the following sizes :
