Migration in China
Huge economic disparity within the country; Migration in China is a topical issue for government and individuals; About 100 million internal economic migrants at any time across the country with strong flows from the poorer regions in the west to the economic powerhouses in the east; Traditional culture can act as a pull for girl migrants into rural and urban areas where young men outnumber girls Demand for cross-border marriages with Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Trafficking situation in China


Both in country and cross border trafficking;
Victim varies: children, women, and men; Purpose varies: forced marriage, illegal adoption, forced labour, child labour, sex exploitation, etc; Organised and networked Crime extending to wider areas

Prevention Strategy Example


Developing community-based integrated child protection mechanisms, in origin, transit and destination areas, which become imbedded into government policies to locally appropriate extend; Main Activity 1 set up children, parents group and report system in the communities Main Activity 2 education and public awareness in the communities and schools Main Activity 3 multi sectors regular meetings for discuss women's children issues and seek the solveation

Criteria for Judging Success


Advocating for changes in policy and practice;
Example of policy/practice change: Parents and adults are willing to listen to respect their children; enhance the communication and work among migration people to promote anti trafficking knowledge Example of policy/practice change: The support system has been set up among the migration people communities Example of policy/practice change: The net working cooperation among local government agencies has been enhanced and between government and NGO as well

Criteria for Judging Success


Integrated Child and Woman protection 1. The children who face the risk and problem has been targeted and supported 2. The local communities people particularly women and children gained a lot self protection and knowledge 3. The problem of children and women has been identified and solved by local government
Advocacy for policy/practice change 1. The Yunnan Province government issue the working recommendations to identify each governments roles and duties and cooperation to against trafficking 2. Yuxi Hong Tan district level Womens Federation and Education Bureau, Public Security Bureau jointly issues the documents to invest the teenage girls working in bars, salon 3. Yuxi Hong Tan district level Civil Affair cover the project sites poor families to benefit from the live standard in the rural areas
