From the Desk of Rep. Dovilla Around the 18th At the Statehouse Upcoming Events

Dear 18th District Resident: With the beginning of another school year, the celebration of the American worker on Labor Day, and the return of football, fall is just around the corner. In the midst of these activities, our schedule around the district and at the Statehouse has remained busy. Our effort to get Ohio working has continued with a series of wellattended business roundtables throughout the 18th District. More information on these gatherings of community leaders appears below. We are also in the midst of our fall series of district office hours. I invite constituents to drop by and visit with me during the events in public libraries throughout our communities. Upcoming dates appear toward the bottom of this e-newsletter. At the Statehouse, I have been working with my colleagues on a task force to improve the use of technology in government, identifying actions we can take to make state agencies more efficient and effective in using taxpayer dollars. And I am honored to announce that Speaker Batchelder has appointed me vice-chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, on which I have been serving as a member since January. This new responsibility will enhance my ability to continue working on legislation to create a more friendly tax climate for Ohio businesses and residents one important key to economic development and job creation. I always enjoy hearing from my constituents and encourage you to contact me with your thoughts or concerns by calling 614-466-4895 or sending an e-mail to district18@ohr.state.oh.us. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely,

State Representative Mike Dovilla Aroundthe18th As a member of the Economic and Small Business Development Committee, I have initiated a series of business roundtables throughout our district. Small business is the backbone of Ohios economy, and I am

seeking input on what actions state government can take to improve our states business climate. If there is a law or regulation stifling economic development that my constituents believe needs to be repealed or eliminated or a law that needs to be enacted to assist businesses in expanding and creating jobs I want to know about it. For example, earlier this year I introduced House Bill 258, legislation that would provide a five-year state tax credit to college graduates and journeypersons in the building trades. We have also received good input from participants at the roundtables on potential changes that could be made to statute or regulation to assist in job creation and retention. Please contact me with your own ideas on making Ohio a better place to conduct business, work, and raise a family.

On September 7th, I participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the widening of Pearl Road south of Route 82 in Strongsville. It is good to have this expanded roadway through the heart of our district as we continue to promote business development in Strongsville and other areas of the 18th District. I am committed to working with Mayor Perciak, the county government and my colleagues in the General Assembly to complete the next phase of this project that will widen Pearl Road south to the county line at Boston Road.

AttheStatehouse I have volunteered to serve as a member of a new legislative task force to identify actions we can undertake to improve the use of technology in government. Among the concepts I will be advancing in the coming weeks is a bill to establish a Cybersecurity Council for the state of Ohio. The council would be composed of representatives from state agencies and businesses that deal with cybersecurity threats, as well as representatives from institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations with expertise in cybersecurity. This new entity would be tasked with evaluating the current state of cybersecurity for statemanaged infrastructure. As you may know, states maintain the largest collections of personally identifiable information, which are prime targets for cyber criminals. In fact, last year the identities of over 760,000 Ohioans Social Security numbers, birthdates, and addresses were

compromised in just one data breach which occurred at The Ohio State University. It is critically important that government take actions to ensure the security of our states citizens in todays increasingly complex online environment. UpcomingEvents Our fall 2011 round of District Office Hours continues in the coming weeks at branches of the Cuyahoga County Public Library throughout the 18th District. Office Hours are an opportunity for constituents to meet with me to share their views on public policy issues, pending or potential legislation and any other matters on which they wish to express their thoughts. No appointment is necessary, and residents will be seen on a first come, first served basis. Please visit with me between 10:00 a.m. and noon on any of the following occasions at these locations: October 8: Berea Library, 7 Berea Commons (in Berea Commons next to police station) October 22: North Royalton Library, 14600 State Road (south of SR 82 in Memorial Park) October 29: Olmsted Falls Library, 7850 Main Street (north of Columbia Road intersection) Other upcoming events include the following: September 15: Berea Chamber of Commerce Business Roundtable September 17: Baldwin-Wallace College Community & Family Day September 18: Veterans Town Hall Meeting in Strongsville September 19: Ohio Turnpike Commission Meeting For more information on any event or to submit an event for inclusion in a future issue of the 18th District Newsletter, please email me at district18@ohr.state.oh.us.
