01. Introduction Greeting Presensi Apperception material formerly Students listen to teacher about this information: We know many kinds of fruits. There are apple, orange, tomato, mango, grape etc. How is characteristic apple? How is characteristik orange? Do both of them have the same characteristic? Every kinds of fruits has different colour, taste, smell and shape. Because of that we wont be wrong to differenciate between apple and orange etc. Chemical scientist also thought same thing on chemical elements. From research, scientist knew that every

element has different character. Can elements be classified as fruit? How the way to classify them? 2. Main Activities Toleran Exploration Students listen for Ce delivering material about the development of elements perodic table Students make group discussion in to 4 group Every group gets one topic (1st sheet) Elaboration Every student in each group must be able to identify the weakness and strenght of topic Leader from each group presents about material that has been discussed in front of class. Students from different group give questions Students are guided by teacher in discussion Confirmation Other student who hasnt given presentation explain about basic of elements classification. Closing Activities Students and teacher make conclusion Students do evaluation test Students get home work (2nd sheet)

Evaluation Evaluation Technique : Written test Instrument : Multiple Choice work sheet Respond : Minimum Completion Criteria Less than minimum Completion Criteria (76) More than Minimum Completion Criteria (76) K. SUBJECT MATTER The Development of Elements Periodic Table In line with science advancement, periodic table of elements underwent development. Many experts composed periodic table of elements. However, there are five popular periodic table. 1) Dobereiners Periodic Table In 1829, Johann W. Dobereiner attemped to compose elements grouping based on atomic mass structure. He proposed: If three elements are arranged in ascending order of their atomic masses, such that the atomic mass of middle element is arithmetic mean of the first and third elements, then these elements will show similar properties 2) John Newlands Periodic Table Following the publication of triads law, John Newlands tried to find relationship between element characteristic and mass number with another way. Therefore, he lined the elements up under their mass numbers increases. In fact the element with eight in difference have similar characteristics. Newlands compared this chemical octaves wit music octave. Thus, the row is named after law of octaves. 3) Lothar Meyers Classification

=76 = Remedial (examination) = Enrichment

In 1864, Meyer published on incomplete periodic table. He included about 56 elements arranged in a group from I to VIII. He plotted the values of different physical properties and obtained different curves. In these graphs, he observed that element with similar physical properties occupy similar positions in the curve. For example: alkali metals occupy the peak of the curves, halogen occurs on the ascending portions of the curve. 4) Mendeleevs Periodic Table Dimitri Ivanovich Mendeleev composed a list that consist of 65 elements were known at that time. He composed that elements based on the rise of relative atomic mass and its nature. He made elements table composed periodically. As a result, that table is called periodicity of the elements or periodic table elements. 5) Modern Periodic Table Modern periodic table is developed in accordance with Mendeleevs concept. The difference ism Mendeleevs periodic table is composed based on atomic mass, while modern periodic table is composed according to atomic number. Type of many modern periodic table that initially was produced by Julius Tomson in 1895. The periodic table consists of two belt, namely vertical columns, which is called groups and horizontal rows, which is called periods. Atom and Ion Size 1. Atomic Size Size goes Up on going down a group. Because electrons are added farther from the nucleus, there is less attraction. Size goes down on going across a period. 2. Ionic Size Cations are smaller than the atoms from which they come. The electron/proton attraction has gone Up and so size decreases Anions are larger than the atoms from which they come. The electron/proton attraction has gone down and so size increases Trends in ion sizes are the same as atom sizes.

L. INSTRUMENT Choose the best answer! 1. One of Metal properties is . a. Low density b. Conduct heat and electricity c. The oxides are base d. Shatter when attempts are made be change shape e.
