Unlike twist drilling, core drilling only involves machining a narrow ring and not the entire drilling surface, which requires much less feed force. This means that the core drilling unit consumes less power, putting less pressure on the user, core bit and the tool. The combined centring and ejector pin automatically ejects the drill core once you have broken through the material. You can core

bit a diameter of up to 80 mm in material up to 50 mm thick in just one step. You can also drill overlapping holes, for slots, for example, and offset holes. All of this makes core drilling an extremely costeffective drilling process its faster, more precise and saves more energy than twist drilling.

The FEIN clamping fixtures, which are available as accessories, allow for efficient and cost-effective working even when drilling pipes, in nonmagnetic materials or on a structured base.

Outstanding operation FEIN core drilling units are easy to operate thanks to the new "Viseo touch pad" operating concept, for example. The FEIN QuickIN quick change system allows you to change tools in a flash without having to use a wrench or adjust the drill position. The stroke range can easily be increased for large drilling tools.

High magnetic holding force The tool needs to be secure such that you can convert all of its power into work efficiency. In FEIN core drilling units, the already high magnetic holding force of the electromagnets is automatically increased when drilling is started. This ensures that the drill jig remains secure even when the drill shaft is experiencing high torque levels.

Optimum power-to-weight ratio FEIN core drilling units are extremely light and are therefore extremely well suited to on-site installation work. The core drilling unit must be secure if you are to core bit successfully. This can only be achieved if the magnetic foot is placed on an even and clean workpiece that is at least 12 mm thick. If this is not the case, you risk losing a considerable amount of the magnetic holding force.

Prevents the tool from starting up independently and unexpectedly if power is suddenly restored. CARBIDE OR HSS?

Tough jobs need tough tools.

In addition to the application-oriented core drilling unit range, FEIN also offers you an extensive range of core bits. In addition to highly durable and powerful carbide core bits, it also includes HSS core bits with a 5% cobalt content that are extremely resistant to impact and shock. FEIN carbide core bits are primarily used in continuous operation, in serial drilling work in industry, workshops and manual trades, for example. As long as they are handled properly, carbide core bits have a tool service life that is up to double that of HSS core bits and are therefore the most cost-effective solution for this area. FEIN HSS core bits are mainly used on the construction site and for on-site installation work particularly if the core bit is exposed to high shock and impact loads.

FEIN HSS Dura core bits are used where working conditions are permanently adverse or where coolant cannot be used. They are made from high-quality high-speed steel with a cobalt content of 5 %. The surface is covered by a first-class titanium aluminium nitrate coating. Whether theyre magnetic or not, theres a FEIN clamping fixture for every purpose.
FEIN offers alternative clamping fixtures for materials and workpieces with which the core drilling units electromagnet cannot be used. These range from a suction plate for non-magnetic materials like stainless steel or aluminium and a vacuum plate for e.g. chequered metal or bulb plate, which is used in conjunction with a vacuum pump to a fixture for drilling pipes with a diameter of between 60 and 300 mm.

COOLING AND LUBRICATING

Long service lives perfect drilling results.

Sufficient and reliable cooling increases tool service lives and guarantees better work progress. In FEIN core drilling units, the coolant is supplied by an integrated interior cooling lubrication. The coolant and lubrication fluid is delivered straight to the core bits cutters. If this isnt the case, as when working overhead for example, external cooling is required. We would recommend working with coolant spray in this situation. Coated core bits like the FEIN HSS Dura deliver the best results for dry drilling.

Precise threads from M 6 to M 27.

Electric thread cutting is much more precise, faster and requires less effort than working by hand. This particularly applies to thread cutting with FEIN core drilling units. Their large stroke range enables tool changes without having to remove the core drilling unit from the workpiece and without having to realign or recentre the thread cutter when it is fitted. COUNTERSINKING

Countersinking for perfect screw head connections.

FEIN core drilling units are characterised by their versatility. They are ideal for all work on completed drill holes, such as deburring or creating profiled or flush offsets. We would particularly recommend deburring and if necessary sinking the drill hole for screw and rivet connections. Only then will screw heads, nuts or rivets sit exactly on the workpiece surface. Depending on the core drilling unit you can use various countersinks for this. For countersinks with a taper holder, the tool is used directly in the drill shaft. If the countersink has a cylindrical holder, you can clamp it using a drill chuck. No matter what you want to connect, FEIN core drilling units enable professional working and perfect drill hole results.

REAMING

Reaming for precise holes with outstanding surface quality.

Reaming creates precise holes with high surface quality. FEIN core drilling units are also ideal for this application, as they offer impressively high concentricity and a precise dove-tail guide, which are required for reaming work. This makes them the ideal tool for mobile reaming in metal and machine construction. Depending on the tool and diameter of the hole, the clamping thickness for reaming is between 0.1 and 0.8 mm. The reamer is either used directly in the drill shaft or clamped with a drill chuck. With FEIN core drilling units youve got the right tool to hand for every application!

It all depends on the right speed.

The key to achieving optimum core drilling results is using the right cutting speed. The ideal core bit speed depends on the core bit diameter, the drill type and the material to be drilled. Thanks to their mechanical indexing gears, FEIN core drilling units give you a very good approach at the best possible cutting speed. With FEIN tools with electronic speed reduction, you can fine-tune the speed even further. This allows you to get through your work quickly and with a much longer core bit service life.
