THESIS PROJECT PROPOSAL

Name of Proponent: VILLENA, CAROLINA A.

School Year / Trimester: 2007-2008 / 2nd Trimester

Proposed Thesis Title: MYCONNECT (AN ALUMNI WEBSITE)

Area of Investigation:
The purpose of the web-based information system entitled, “MyConnect (An
Alumni Website)”, aims to keep alumni updated from this institution such as
news and events, job opportunities, co-alumni’s profile and others.

Modules to be included are:

• About AMA Alumni. Views the history, vision, mission, administrators,
constitution and by-laws, and alumni officers.
• News and Events. Views on what’s happening regarding on the alumni
association such board reports, announcements, gallery and featured
alumni.
• Message Board. The place where the alumni graduates keep
communicated on each other.
• Search an Alumni. This is where we can find about other alumni.
• Links. Display the other link locations which related to the institution.
• Contact Us. Views the institution’s contacts details.
• Site Map. Displays either the outline of the website or the main sketch of
the campus.

Reasons for the Choice of Project:

Forming simplified information with interactive approach is the main reason why
the researcher/proponent chose this kind of project. By the means of design &
development, a manual existing system will might be no longer use because of
how online proposed system could be more convenient and informative thru the
use of computer and internet.

Importance of the study:

The importance of the study is designing and developing a new proposed system
to reduce the setbacks encountered in existing system.

Target Users/Beneficiaries:
• Administrators / Faculty. They will update important information which
the alumni must have.
• Alumni / Graduates. They will keep updated on events, find and keep
communicated with other alumni, find job opportunities, knowing about
their alma mater and others.
• Researcher/Proponent. To widen her IT-related skills thru creating this
system.

Similarities with any Previous study/Project:

1. Thesis Title: “ONLINE ALUMNI, PLACEMENT AND LINKAGES FOR
AMACC CALOOCAN”
Name of Proponents: 1. Suratos, Gemmelie Ann I.
2. Mirandilla, Louise Anne A.
School/Year: AMA COMPUTER COLLEGE – CALOOCAN / 2002
Similarities:
Our common between studies is we proposed an online information
system which is an alumni website. Basically, we have similar features of
our system such as alumni database and search engines.

Differences:
However, the proponent is simply focused only on keeping in touch
with the alumni graduates esp. its activities and it is not considered as a
job website. Additional features such as message board, facilities, picture
gallery, constitution and by-laws, and others.

Also, the proponent decided to use MySQL for future storage or

database and PHP as scripting / programming language.

2. Thesis Title: “THE ONLINE CATALOGUE OF AMA COMPUTER

COLLEGE CALOOCAN”
Name of Proponents: 1. Calangi, Mary Joy B.
School/Year: AMA COMPUTER COLLEGE – CALOOCAN / 2001
Similarities:
Generally, we created a web-based information system exclusive
for the school and basic contents such as vision and mission are included.

Differences:
Her system includes a 3D system containing pictures and
information of each faculty/employee and course offered by the school
and the proponent’s proposed system doesn’t cover some general
features as their study did.

3. Thesis Title: “CONNECT WITH US (WEBSITE FOR COLEGIO DE SAN

PASCUAL BAYLON”
Name of Proponents: 1. Cristobal, Jeanne Marvie D.
School/Year: AMA COMPUTER COLLEGE – CALOOCAN / 2006
Similarities:
Basically, similar features both systems such as history, vision and
mission, and facilities are included.

Differences:
First, we had same objective but different school. Second, her
system is all about main general information of the specific school like
courses, school calendar of events and FAQ so, there’s no database
included

Software Engineering Paradigm to be Used:

The Classic Life Cycle

Sometimes called the “waterfall model”, demands a systematic, sequential

approach to software development that begins at the system level and progress
through analysis, design, coding, testing and maintenance.

• System Engineering & Analysis – encompasses requirements gathering

at the system level with small amount of tip-level design and analysis.

• Software Requirements & Analysis – requirements gathering process is

intensified and focused specifically on software. To understand the nature
of the programs to be built, the SE(analyst) must understand the
information domain for the software , as well as the required function,
performance and interfacing.
• Design – translates requirements into a representation of the software
that can be assessed for quality before coding begins. This step focuses
on four distinct attributes: data structure, software architecture, procedural
detail, an interface characterization.
• Coding – translates the design into a machine-readable form.
• Testing – once the code has been generated, program testing begins.
This process focuses on the logical intervals of the software , ensuring
that all statements have been tested to uncover errors and ensure that
defined input will produce actual results.

Programming Language to be Used: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, PHP,

MySQL, Macromedia Flash / Swish,
