convenience, comfort and care attentive, personal care. LaDonna Bailey, of Aberdeen, recently had a cataract removed at the center, They treat you like a queen, she says. The nurses and Dr. Wischmeier are wonderful. I just love them all!

Arlene Randall, of Aberdeen, is equally enthusiastic in her praise of the care she received when she had the same procedure at the surgery center. She had

a cataract removed from one eye in November and one from the other eye in December. Dr. Bormes is absolutely super, she says, and so is everyone there. With the opening of their surgery center, Ophthalmology Associates is part of a fast-growing, national trend toward performing outpatient surgeries in a state-of-

to-date center designed around patient comfort.

ADVANTAGES OF A SURGERY CENTER

Thats what we do, says Kathy Nipp, R.N., Ophthalmology Associates and iSurgery Administrative Director, From

the moment they enter the surgery center until the time they leave, the patient is our number one priority. With five patient rooms and one operating room, the center is designed to meet the needs of those it serves. We can accommodate their schedules, Nipp says, offering the example of a patient who wanted to have a procedure before heading south for the winter. With clearance from his doctor, we were able to add him directly on to our schedule on a day that was covenient for him and accommodated his time schedule. He was totally thrilled we were able to do all this for him. Arlene Randall

DESIGNED FOR PATIENT COMFORT

Expansive windows and art contribute to a light airy feeling throughout the surgery center even in winter. Pa-

tients and their families can relax in a quiet, pleasant environment and enjoy light and sunshine through the many windows. Its very nice. Very comfortable, Eileen Gabler agrees. A longtime resident of Cresbard and now of Aberdeen, she has praise for every aspect of her experience. The waiting room is beautiful with a TV, she says, but I didnt have to wait at all. While other types of procedures eyelid surgery, glaucoma treatment are done at the new surgery center, Gabler, too, had cataract surgery. Heres how it went in the patient room after she checked in at the reception area: You sit in a recliner with warm blankets, she explains. The nurse told me what she would be doing. Following the outpatient procedure, she returned to the same room where

her blood pressure was checked. Gabler was offered a light breakfast. You cant eat before surgery, she explains. So after surgery, patients are given a choice of beverage and a light snack. It was just perfect is all I can say.

SURGERY, AFTERMATH EASY FOR PATIENTS

As for her recovery, Gabler reports no pain, no discomfort. She used eye drops as prescribed and wore an eye patch for the next three nights. The

evening after surgery as she settled in for the evening, I turned on the TV and everything was so bright and clear. I have 20/ 20 vision now. I dont know why I waited so long. Randall, too, reports an uneventful recovery. Her surgery was on a Tuesday and by Friday she was playing bridge. She does, however, note a downside to the success of the procedure. Now, I can see every line in my face. And my friends have lines, too! Bailey will have a second cataract removed later this year and she expects that will go as smoothly as the first. After the surgery, I didnt even realize Id had anything done, she reports. I just Julie Orman (left), a member of Ophthalmology Associates staff, takes the role of patient as Janet Riggs, R.N., Pre-op/Post-op Charge Nurse, listens to her heart.

When youre sick, the hospital is marvelous. Its the right place to be. But to have a cataract removed, I was a lot more comfortable going to a clinic. Eileen Gabler Start to finish from walking into the surgery center to leaving after the procedure which in her case, was 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Bailey says, I was very satisfied with everything. couldnt believe it.

And those who have been treated at the surgery center are pleased with all aspects of care. According to Janet Riggs, Preop/Postop Charge Nurse, Regular monitoring of satisfaction surveys returned from patients shows a very high level of satisfaction covering everything from patient instruction, the admitting process, staff and physician care, environmental surrounding and discharge procedures.
