1. Background of study University of Muhammadiyah Malang as one private University in Malang that always tries to keep and develop the academic tradition related to Tri Darma Perguruan Tinggi (education and teaching, research, or social relation). It involves many aspects, including the behavior that have to be developed by students, lectures, and also all the college civilian, and the most important is the way to have a good achievement in academic. English Department is one department of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in University of Muhammadiyah Malang which has vision to hold the teaching learning process, research, and social relation in academic and based on Islamic norm. In English Department, there are elective courses, those are Business English, EYL (English for Young Leaner), and Translation. This is supposed to create the educated society and to produce the professional outputs that are ready to work. Business English learns about the application of English in the working field, such as Business Letter (inquiry, order, and complaint letter, etc), communication ethic by telephone or direct communication. In the next level, Business English focuses in organization and work management (the structure of the company, the function of division and sub division, on the several factors that influences the working quality in the company). And the last, this subject deals with hotel and tourism (kinds of hotel and everything related to hotel, tourist guide and tourism). This is supposed to create the educated society and to produce the professional outputs that are ready to work. Based on the curriculum of English Department of UMM, the students have to join on the apprenticeship in hotel or a company as a requirement of Business English class. The goal is to apply their theories and skill they got during the class in the reality also to know the real work place. Gajahmada Hotel has been chosen as the place to do the practice. The existence of Gajahmada Hotel as well known place, attracts many visitors. In addition this place supports the economic for Malang society. Those reasons have made us interested in learning and getting experience in Gajahmada Hotel to improve our skill and competence for the future.

2. The Purpose of Apprenticeship The purposes of apprenticeship are as follows: a) To apply the theories and knowledge that the students got during the class. b) To get working experience. c) To fulfill the requirement of Business English II at semester VI. d) To be able to communicate well, both oral and written. e) To know the real work place.

3. The advantage of Apprenticeship The advantages of apprenticeship are as follows: a) For the students 1) To increase the students competence, intellectual, social, and emotional question. 2) To prepare the students to be a creative, productive, and professional workers. 3) To apply the theories, knowledge they have.

b) For the company 1) To realize their social responsibility toward the society. 2) To get new ideas to increase the performance of company or instance. c) For the English Department 1) To enlarge the corporation web by building network for company or institution. 2) To increase the relevancies of curriculum of Business English in English Department FTTE UMM.

4. Time and Schedule of Apprenticeship Apprenticeship will be held in the last of VI semester in a month (July 2011) and working schedule is the same with another worker in the company.

7. Conclusion We hope that Gajahmada Hotel will accept us so we can learn to apply the theories and knowledge we have in the real working field.
