Prologue
What you are about to read is the result of a labour of love to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and it is to His honour and glory that I dedicate this book!

I had begun writing a historic fiction, where I had given the main character a certain quirk; she had a penchant for four word phrases. Such as Never doubt your beliefs. Never believe your doubts. Love laughs at locksmiths. Love is the key. Love unlocks every door. Love is the answer. You get the idea.

I have done a small amount of research on four word phrases. They contribute not only to the simplicity of reading and concise conveyance of thought, but they remarkably and powerfully assist those with traumatic brain injury and autism.

Constant prayer and seeking Christ has gone into the creation of this little book. It is my prayer that you will be greatly blessed by reflecting on the power of Gods word contained herein, and that you will feed on it spiritually and meditate on it regularly.

God has freely given me these talents as a gift, and in using them for His glory, this book is yours free. I ask nothing in return for myself, only that you praise Jesus!

Unveiling Life Truths

This book may have been more appropriately entitled Conduct For Christian Living, Instructions For Daily Living, Four Words of Advice, or Words To Live By. Title initials form the acronym bolt, and like a bolt, these small, powerful ideas can be threaded into the very fabric of your being. A bolt is also a discharge of lightning, and in this sense, may these nuggets of wisdom be the flashes of inspiration you need. A bolt is also the part of a lock that is engaged with a key.

Book of Life Truths is the lock on a vault of wisdom. Application is its key. Set aside the time to focus your attention on these bolts. The phrases in this little book, each consists of only four words, but they are words, that when reflected upon, will impact your life for the better. Phrases are structured as positive encouragement. You wont find a do not anywhere, although several appear in Gods word.

In no way is it being suggested that Gods Word be minimized to just four words. In fact, the opposite is true. Reflection upon Gods Word expands your mind, enlarges your heart, enriches your soul and gives you strength for the journey.

God enlarges my heart. Psalms 119:32 This book may be used individually or in a group setting as a Bible study tool. Passages with several references are intended for group study, although they may be studied, reflected and meditated upon individually also.

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 5 Study to be quiet. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 Scripture is Gods word. All scripture is useful. 2 Timothy 3:16 Scripture trains Gods servants. 2 Timothy 3:17 This book will also prove useful as an aid in Scripture memorization. Learn to memorize Scripture. Luke 4:4 Learn to search Scripture. Deuteronomy 29:29, 1 Corinthians 2:10, Colossians 2:3 It will be a handy devotional bedtime reader to reflect upon before you sleep, or as a book of encouragement to start your day. Hopefully, it will be an encouraging reference to get you to dig deeper into the gold mine of Gods Word. As you do, youll uncover nuggets of pure truth, lodes of scintillating wisdom and extract riches beyond earthly measure. The beauty of it is, Gods storehouse is inexhaustible.

Keep searching the Scriptures. John 5:39, Romans 15:4 Read them at random, or in order. Either way, take time to reflect. Every phrase relates to Scripture, and is therefore, Gods Word speaking to you. Read the Scriptures that are referenced. Treat Gods word seriously. Allow His Word to penetrate and transform you. Carefully consider what each one is saying to you. Ask as many questions as you can about each one, and then do your best to apply these truths. Allow this book to inform, interest, instruct, influence and inspire * impress and impact * you.

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 6 One of the great passions of my life has been dedicated to the encouragement and equipping of every believer to think biblically, live Christianly, serve effectively, and reproduce consistently. Joseph M. Stowell

Why else did I write this book?

DANIEL 4:2

I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God has

worked toward me.

Like Joseph Stowell, my main focus in writing this book is to encourage people everywhere to think about those things in life that really matter the most. When I use the word our throughout the book, I am referring collectively to the readers, and myself, who actively and genuinely believe in Jesus Christ. For the most part, I use the word my to personalize the reading for you.

Thanks
All glory and honour to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour, for His countless blessings on my life. All I am and ever hope to be is entirely because of Him. Thanks to my wonderful wife Colleen for her loving encouragement, her constant patience and steady support. Thanks to my extended family of believers throughout London who are a rich source of genuine Christian love.

Love, in Christ, and all for His glory! William A. Butler, London, Ontario, 2002

How Did This Happen?

How did this happen? Matthew 26-28, Mark 14-16, Luke 22-24, John 13-24 Jesus was in Bethany. Just east of Jerusalem. (By about two miles.) Passover was soon expected. (A memorial of redemption.) Exodus 12:1-28 (Cf. John 1:29, John 3:36, John 12:24, 1 Corinthians 5:6-7, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Hebrews 9:22, Hebrews 10:10, 1 Peter 1:18-19, 1 John 1:7) In fact, two days. Jesus had twelve disciples. They were with Him. He confided in them. Jesus predicted His death. Caiaphas was high priest. His palace grew busy. A meeting was convened. The chief priests gathered. Elders and scribes arrived. (Scribes cf. 2 Samuel 8:17, 2 Samuel 20:25, 1 Kings 4:3, Jeremiah 8:8, Jeremiah 36:10&12) They discussed a plot. They wanted Jesus dead. John 11:47, Acts 4:25-28

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 10 They considered an ambush. They didnt follow through. Not during the festival! They feared public outcry. Matthew 21:26 Jesus was visiting Simon. (He was a leper.) Matthew 8:2, Luke 15:2 Martha had served supper. Luke 11:38-42, John 12:2 Jesus was busy eating. Mary went to Jesus. (Mark 16:9), Mark 14:3-9, John 12:1-8 She had a flask. It contained an ointment. (About ten ounces, approximately.) It was extremely expensive. (Ointment befitting a king.) She anointed His head. (In effect, crowning Him.) John 12:3 His disciples observed this. They expressed righteous indignation. They mistook her motives. They only saw waste. They didnt see honor. What about poor people? Jesus defended the woman. Why trouble this lady? She only did right. Poor people shall remain. Ill soon be gone. It is embalming fluid. Its for my burial. Mark 16:1, John 19:38-42 (Mary of Bethany understood. She understood Jesus divinity.) She has crowned me. It is forever remembered. One disciple sought opportunity. He consulted chief priests. Judas Iscariot offered betrayal. I will deliver Jesus. What will you pay? They paid thirty shekels. Zechariah 11:12-13 He bided his time. Acts 1:16 Disciples came to Jesus. Its the first day. Feast of Unleavened Bread. Preparations must be made. Where shall we go? Jesus gave them instructions. My time has come. Luke 9:51, John 12:23 They did as asked. They got everything ready. (In the Upper Room.) Evening had settled in. (The last Passover arrived.) Matthew 26:20 They all sat together. They began to eat.

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 11 Jesus declared His betrayal. (John 6:64), Psalms 41:9, John 6:70-71, John 13:21 (This had been predicted. Zechariah 11:10-14, Matthew 27:3-10) They were exceedingly sorrowful. Supper had now ended. Jesus washed their feet. John 13:1-20 Questions circled all around. Lord, is it I? Jesus rebuked their contentions. Jesus identifies the traitor. Watch my dipping bowl. Whoever dips his hands. He will betray me. Judas inquired of Jesus. Master, is it I? You have stated correctly. Woe he who betrays. Hed be better unborn! John 17:12, Acts 1:25 Judas went out immediately. The Lords Supper commenced. (Also called the Eucharist.) Jesus blessed the bread. 1 Corinthians 10:16 He then broke it. Take and eat it. This is my body. 1 Peter 2:24 He took the cup. He then offered thanks. Drink all of it. This is my blood. Matthew 27:35 The new covenant blood. Exodus 24:8, Isaiah 61:8, Hebrews 8:8 Its purpose is forgiveness. Romans 3:23-28 The forgiveness of sin Leviticus 4:20, Matthew 26:28 Forgiveness, translated, is remission. (Send off or away Sin and sinner separated.) Acts 10:43, Hebrews 9:22 Jesus foretold Peters denial. They professed their loyalty. Jesus comforted his apostles. He ministered to them. He promised to return. He promises the Comforter. (That is, Holy Spirit) Jesus went over Kidron. (This is a brook.) 2 Samuel 15:23 Eleven disciples also went. They entered the garden. (It is called Gethsemane.) Jesus went to pray. He took three disciples. (Peter, James and John.)

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 12 Jesus soul grew heavy. He was very sorrowful. Isaiah 53:3, Lamentations 1:12, John 12:27 He was in agony. He knew the cost. Isaiah 53:10 (He (Jesus prayed three times.) He walked further away. First, He sought God. Must I be sacrificed? Genesis 22:6-8 Let this cup pass. (Alluding to His suffering. It also means provision.) Psalms 16:5, Psalms 23:5, Psalms 116:13, Proverbs 31:6, Jeremiah 16:7 Then, sought Gods will. Then Jesus went back. The disciples were asleep. Keep watch, and pray! Matthew 26:41 Secondly, He prayed likewise. Once again, He returned. The three were asleep. (Asleep to His agony. Asleep to His suffering.) Lastly, He prayed privately. Mark 14:41 The hour has come. I will be betrayed. Judas knew the place. He knew Jesus habits. Jesus was yet speaking. The moment had arrived. Judas would betray Jesus. Judas brought a multitude. The chief priests attended. Elders were there too. Some armed with swords. Others armed with clubs. (The weapons werent necessary.) Judas gave the sign. Watch for the kiss. Judas completed his betrayal. Psalms 41:9 Jesus was immediately arrested. All the disciples fled. Jewish officers took Jesus. His wrists were bound. They led Him away. (The officers werent needed.) A preliminary hearing began. This was before Annas. (Caiaphas father in law.) John 18:12-14, John 18:19-23 A soldier struck Jesus.

voluntarily paid it.)

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 13 Meanwhile, Peter denied Jesus. I dont know him. Three times he denied. Just as Jesus predicted! Jesus went before Caiaphas. (Caiaphas was high priest.) An informal trial ensued. He favored official proceedings. Judas remorse was unrelenting. He returned the money. Then he hung himself. Matthew 27:3-10, Acts 1:18-19 A formal trial commenced. This time, the Sanhedrin. (The highest Jewish tribunal.) Matthew 27:1, Mark 15:1, Luke 22:66-71 They wanted him dead. They tied His wrists. (Ropes were not required.) They led him away. First a Jewish trial. Next a Gentile trial. It had three stages. Jesus went before Pilate. Pontius Pilate was Governor. Pilate asked Jesus questions. Matthew 27:2, Matthew 27:11-14, Mark 15:1-5, Luke 23:1-5, John 18:28-38 Jesus went before Herod. Luke 23:6-12 Jesus returned to Pilate. Matthew 27:15-26, Mark 15:6-15, Luke 23:13-25, John 18:39-40 King of the Jews? Would this be you? Jesus replied, Thou sayest. 1 Timothy 6:13 Chief priests accused Jesus. Elders also joined in. Jesus didnt say anything. At this Pilate marveled. Pilate asked the crowd. Ill release a prisoner. Who shall it be? Barabbas, or Jesus Christ? The Governors wife appeared. She pleaded with Pilate. A dream troubles me. Jesus is completely righteous. Do not harm Him! Chief priests influenced people. The elders urged them. The multitude was persuaded. Release Barabbas destroy Jesus.

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 14 Who shall I release? The crowd chose Barabbas. John 5:43, Acts 3:14, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8 What then, of Jesus? Let Him be crucified. Pilate declared Jesus innocent! What evils He done? Jeremiah 26:16, Acts 3:13, Acts 23:29, Acts 25:25 The crowd was frenzied. They wanted a scapegoat. They cried out more. Let Him be crucified! Pilate washed his hands. Im innocent of this. He pleased the crowd. A murderer was released. His name was Barabbas. Pilate had Jesus scourged. (A horribly torturous beating.) Brutally flogged by soldiers. Veins were laid bare. Then sent for crucifixion. Governors soldiers escorted Jesus. (Soldiers werent really necessary. Jesus willingly obeyed God.) Taken to the Praetorium. (Greek for, common hall) All the soldiers mustered. Jesus was stripped naked. Then they covered Him. A scarlet robe sufficed. Psalms 69:19, Luke 23:11 Then came the briers. He wore a crown. But not of jewels. This one had thorns. Their tips caused bleeding. They bowed the knee. Jesus was then mocked. (They pretended honoring Him.) Hundreds of people jeered. Then he was assaulted. Struck about the head. He was spat upon. They removed the robe. Put on his clothing. Escorted by Roman soldiers. He was forced onward. Led away for crucifixion. Jesus carried a cross. It was overbearingly heavy. He did until exhausted. Simon then bore it. 2 Corinthians 4:10

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 15 They arrived at Golgotha. (Hebrew word for skull) Matthew 27:33, Mark 15:22, John 19:17 Also known as Calvary. (Latin) Luke 23:33 Laid on the cross. Three nails were used. Two into His forearms. Just above the wrist. One into the ankles. His knees were twisted. He endured unbearable thirst. They offered Him vinegar. Psalms 69:21 Wine mingled with myrrh. Mark 15:23 He didnt drink it. They lifted Him up. (Not out of honour.) JESUS CHRIST WAS CRUCIFIED! Genesis 3:15, Mark 14:24, Hebrews 10:18 Soldiers parted His garments. (Each taking a piece.) His tunic was seamless. The soldiers placed bids. (Also called casting lots.) Psalms 22:18 And there He hung. Set over His head. This accusation was written. This is Jesus Christ. King of the Jews. Crucified between two thieves. Jesus endured the cross. Jesus endured agonizing crucifixion. He endured intense heat. He endured human ridicule. His friends deserted Him. The world rejected Him. He suffered spiritual agony. He bore our sins. Six hours one Friday. His life ebbed away. He did this willingly. John 10:18 Jesus dismissed His spirit. Mark 15:37, Luke 23:46, John 19:30

Pour out your heart Dear God in heaven. Be merciful to me. I am a sinner. I admit doing wrong. I cant help myself. I turn to you. I need your guidance. I need your protection. I need your love. I accept your Son. Make yourself known Jesus. Reveal yourself to me. Show me the Truth. Come into my life. Fill this empty void. Come into my heart. Claim your rightful place. I accept you fully. You died for me. I die to myself. You shed your blood. Wash away my sins. Please forgive me now. For every wrong deed. There have been many. For every sin committed. Too numerous to count. I am terribly sorry. (Psalms 38:18) You rose to life. Give me new life. Make me brand new. Live inside my heart. Above all things else. Be my Number One. Take over my life. Be first and foremost. My Lord and Master.

Epilogue
It is my fervent hope, dear Reader, that as you meditate on the attributes of God, and reflect upon what His word is speaking to your heart, and as you put your being completely in Him, that you will realize within your inmost being the greatest peace and comfort ~ that you will be imbued with a deeper sense of the majesty of God. And that further reflection of this material will ultimately lead you to prayerfully consider the state of your perfection and holiness that God calls us all to.

Be unwilling to compromise on these things: 1) Complete obedience to His leading, (not as we choose). 2) Fully allowing the Holy Spirit to operate in us and through us 3) Drawing close to Him in prayer, moment by moment We can ultimately do no better for ourselves as when we completely and utterly rely upon our great God for His Divine wisdom and guidance for every step of our spiritual journey.

Butler/Book of Life Truths/ 121 In closing, this is my prayer for you:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Romans 16:24, Revelation 22:21
