FURNACE We have created a renewable fuel revolution! The
Revolution furnace is designed to burn pellets, corn, wheat or rye.
It has a revolutionary, patent-pending burnpot and a dual hopper
ignition system. There are four individual programs for multi-fuel
use and the Revolution can be used for supplemental heat or as a
stand-alone heater. We do not recommend the Revolution as a sole source of heat.
Nothing feels warmer and cozier than this multi-fuel furnace which
puts out 60,000 BTU and has a 1,000 CFM blower. The Revolution
virtually runs itself. It is self-cleaning and self-igniting. Pellets are
used for lighting the furnace, it then switches to the chosen fuel in
the main hopper. The Revolution pot self-cleans every two hours
without the unit ever shutting down.

When Terri Fullerton sought a ca-
reer in health care, her decision was
fueled mostly out of an essential de-
sire to help people. A voracious prob-
lem solver by nature, Terri knew this
attribute would be of great beneft
in the healthcare feld. The ability to
support, comfort
and facilitate re-
lief of some of the
most challenging
health problems
lead her to felds
such critical
care, urgent care,
emergency care,
cardiac care and
now oncology.

Terris career in health care start-
ed as a registered nurse. The frst
years were spent working in criti-
cal care, urgent care and emergency
nursing. Mid career, she took on
one of the most challenging roles as
a supervisor of the hospital on week-
ends when no other administrators
or supervisors were present. She
found that this challenge left her very
skilled, but Terri missed direct pa-
tient relationships.
Additionally, Terri felt the need
to expand her role as a nurse. This
led her to work toward the advanced
degrees necessary to become a Nurse
Practitioner. As a nurse practitioner,
Terri feels she has a greater impact
on her patients health as she has the

Gunnell receives first Arthur Wunsch Advocacy Award
Robert Gunnell, M.D., of White Cloud was re-
cently awarded the frst Arthur Wunsch consumer
advocacy award by the Newaygo County Mental
Health Board of Directors. He was nominated for
his years of service to Newaygo County Mental
Health and to persons who have mental illness and/
or developmental disabilities.
He was surprised and appeared overwhelmed by
the award.
It has been an honor and privilege to work with
the fne people of this agency for many years. It has
inspired my dedication to medical practice to work
with and for persons who believe in the importance
of treating the body and the mind together. I hope to
work with you for many years to come, he stated.
Dr. Gunnell has worked with NCMH providing
psychiatric medications and coordinating treat-
ment with a variety of mental health clinicians for
30 years, plus. He was lauded by members of the
board who have years of frst-hand knowledge of his
skill and dedication. NCMH is looking forward to
many years to come working in collaboration with
Dr. Gunnell in mental health services and new en-
deavors and opportunities to serve the community
in the future.
Dr. Gunnell started working part-time at
NCMH in the late 70s when the center was with-
out a psychiatrist. Even though several psychiatrists
have come and gone, Dr. Gunnells valuable services
have been retained all this time, says Greg Snyder,
Executive Director of NCMH.
The integration of physical and mental health is
a high priority throughout the United States. NCMH
is clearly a leader in this area. With the expansion
planned at the facility, medical services will soon be
available for those who utilize our services but do
not have a primary care physician.
For more information about NCMH, call (231)

tivities were a huge success. The morning

Coy with the Queens Tea at MacNaughton

started at 1:00pm and the girls had a great
time waving to community members and
visitors who were enjoying the days activi-
ties. They also rode in the Parade of Lights
later that evening when fre trucks from
Howard City and nearby towns circled the
village twice, once with fashing lights and
the second time with fashing lights and
horns.
The day before the festival, Queen Kai-
ley and the Grand Marshalls judged the
area businesses scarecrow contest. Dairy
Bear had the winning entry with their Wiz-
ard of Oz entry.
The girls frst parade was at the Green-
ville Danish Festival. On Labor Day week-
end, they attended the Queens Tea in Tru-
fant and participated in the Jubilee parade.

Day parade on Saturday, October 2 at 3pm
in Cedar Springs. They will also attend the

Troy and Maelisa VanMeter of Fenwick became

VanMeter was born on September 15, 2011 at 8:53am.
He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches
long. He as one sister, Allandra and one brother, Devin.
Grandparents are Jim and Marsha Geister of Orleans,
John VanMeter of Grand Rapids, Mary VanMeter of
Greenville, and Alice Geister of Belding. Great Grandpar-

a Great Great Grandpa of Lake Odessa.
ability to create a closer working relationship with them. In
this role, I can partner with my patients. Helping people to help
themselves is the basis of my practice, said Terri.
In her years of service, Terri has found that health care has
changed in many ways. She notes that health care has primarily
changed in the area of decision making. People are working to-
gether with their providers to fnd the best treatment available
to that individual. What I enjoy most about patient care is the
ability to help open doors, offer options, reassurance and assist
in increasing an individuals wellbeing no matter where they are
in the continuum of health.
Terris goals in serving the patients at the United Hospital
Cancer Center are many. She sees kindness as being essential,
along with the highest quality, most effcient and effective care
possible to meet a patients individual needs. Most importantly,
she seeks to work along with my new neighbors, and friends to
assist in making a sometimes very diffcult road much easier in
a host of different ways.
Personally, Terri and her husband are building a home on
acreage between Greenville and Rockford. They have been for-
tunate to have a pair of nesting eagles raise 2 or 3 eaglets each
of the last 3 years in a nest in one of their great White Pines.
Because of this, they have learned a great deal about eagles hab-
its and how they raise their offspring. Hiking, reading, visiting
with family and digital scrapbooking are some of her favorite
past time activities.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
It does not seem fair
TO THE EDITOR:
A year ago a realty company had an
ad for 18 acres in Reynolds Township.
It was advertised as a horse/livestock
farm. It had a barn and the property was
fenced in, wow, a dream come true. I was
excited because I had planned on raising
some chickens, a few pigs and putting in
a garden. I was on my way to a little bit
of self suffciency. The property was in
a state of disrepair so I started to work
on it. I put a new roof on the house and
painted it inside and out. I cleaned the
barn and put a new roof on that and cur-
rently I am working on the other build-
ing, a major cleaning in general. Several
neighbors stopped by to compliment me
on the improvements. I purchased some
chickens and few small pigs, life was
good. That all changed when I got a visit
from Mr. DeJong, the township zoning
administrator. He told me the chickens
and pigs would have to go, no livestock.
I explained that this had been a work-
ing farm for as long as the neighbors
could remember. He said the property
had gone through bankruptcy between
the last owner and me, so the farm sta-
tus was broken. So much for my high
hopes in Reynolds Township. I asked
Mr. DeJong what my options were and
he said, I could apply for a variance. I
asked him what my chances were and he
said, Zero. I wondered how he could
be so sure of what the board, reviewing
my appeal, would render as their deci-
sion. I asked him how long I had to get
rid of the chickens and the pigs. He said,
I could make you get rid of them in 24
hours, but I will give you 30 days and
then be back with the Sheriff. I called
the township clerk and asked how to ap-
ply for a variance. She said I would have
to fll out some paperwork, pay $450.00
and a meeting could be scheduled in
about 30 days. I have a petition signed
by all the adjoining neighbors in favor of
this variance.
I became a taxpayer of the township
with high hopes of being a good neigh-
bor. If my variance is denied, it is time
to move on to a municipality where the
township board is more people friendly.

First impressions can last a long time,
if not forever! So whether youre inter-
viewing for a big job, having lunch with
soon-to-be in-laws or simply meeting
people at a party, the initial get-together
can be crucial.
Theres no need to stress about frst
impressions. Relax and just be yourself,
says Michelle Tillis Lederman, author of
the new book, The 11 Laws of Likabil-
ity, and founder and CEO of Executive
Essentials. The frst dialogue with an
important new contact can be as easy,
enjoyable and fulflling as a conversation
with old friends.
To help people stop stressing over
potential social pitfalls, Lederman offers
several key tips for social situations.
Be Curious
Break the ice in any social situation
by asking open-ended questions. Most
people love to talk about themselves, so
dont hesitate to rely on the tried and
true, What do you do? Hobbies, in-
terests, and goals are terrifc topics that
engage people. Be sure to pay attention
so you can ask follow-up questions that
show youve been listening.
Probe with curiosity, but dont inter-
rogate. If you hit a brick wall, dont panic.
Simply change the conversation. Your
goal is to uncover what you might have in
common and what value you might bring
to that person, stresses Lederman, who
is also a faculty member of the American
Management Association.
Be Likable
The best interactions we have are
with the people we genuinely care for,
and people like to do business and build
relationships with people they like. To be
liked, fgure out what makes you uniquely
likable and put forth a sincere positive
energy when meeting someone for the
frst time.
Likewise, discover what you like
about the person with whom youre talk-
ing. They wont always be apparent, but
in the face of differences, fnd common-
alities. Focus on parallel life experienc-
es and shared feelings. Happier, more
comfortable relationships will be your
result.
Be Yourself
Theres no need to fake it, says
Lederman. The real you is the best you,
and its the most powerful tool for form-
ing real connections.
There is no right way to interact with
new people. Everyone has his or her own
style. So show your authentic self and
people should respond in kind, laying the
bedrock for mutual understanding.
Dont plaster on a fake smile. Even
when talking to someone unpleasant, you
usually can fnd something you admire
about the person. Concentrate on posi-
tives and your conversation will trans-
form for the better.
How to make a great first impression

(NAPSI) Parents of young
children need to be better edu-
cated in order to avoid making
potentially dangerous safety mis-
takes when they are on the go.
The Problem
Automobile crashes remain a
leading cause of death for children
and its important that parents
consistently and correctly use the
appropriate car seat to keep their
child passengers safe. Many par-
ents may be unknowingly endan-
gering their children as three out
of four car seats are not used cor-
rectly, according to the National
Highway Traffc Safety Adminis-
tration.
Some Answers
Busy parents and caregivers
may be tempted by safety short-
cuts when transporting children.
AAA offers simple reminders to
protect parents most precious
cargo.
Shortcut: Im only driving
a mile from home, so my son
doesnt need to be secured in his
car seat since its a short trip.
Reminder: You should buckle
up properly on every tripno
matter the distanceespecially
since most crashes occur close to
home.
Shortcut: Im picking up sev-
eral kids after soccer practice and
Im going to put my 8-year-old
daughter in the front seat so all
the children can ft into the car.
Reminder: All children un-
der age 13 are safest when riding
in the backseat and properly re-
strained in a car seat, booster seat
or seat belt.
Shortcut: We will be driving
more people in our car than we
have seat belts. Since its a short
trip, its not a big deal for some-
one to ride on another persons
lap.
Reminder: Its never safe to
ride on another persons lap. Each
passenger should be properly re-
strained on every trip.
Shortcut: My son is 10 years
old and 46 tall. Hes big enough
to use a seat belt now.
Reminder: The American
Academy of Pediatrics now rec-
ommends children continue to
use belt-positioning booster seats
until they are 49 and the seat
belt fts properly.
Help For Parents
Fortunately, AAA experts are
available to help parents with car
seat installation. Visit an AAA
club, go to www.seatcheck.org.
Common car seat mistakes
parents should avoid
SAFETY FIRST: With three
out of four child safety seats
not properly installed, consult-
ing an expert can be critical
to ensure that children are
secured in the safest manner
possible. (NAPSI Photo)

High Tech, High Touch
John Naisbitt rst developed the concept of high tech, high touch in his 1982 bestseller Megatrends. He
theorized that in a world of technology, people would long for personal, human contact. Back then some people
thought movie theaters would close up because people could watch the movie at home on their VCR (remember
those). But Naisbitt thought, people, being social, needed human contact, would still go to the theater. And now
nearly 30 years it looks like he was very correct.
With the development of the internet we have actually seen an integration of the tech and the touch. This is
why social media sites like Facebook have become so popular. Even though we can stay in contact on these sites,
we still need the physical touch, skin contact on a regular basis to maintain our health.
I heard a patient use the term skin deprivation. For her, the physical act of touching another humans skin
and being touched by someone was very important. She was widowed, with no children, with very little physical
contact with other people. Depression began to creep in. She found several solutions. At rst, she got a massage
every week, to have some of that contact. This was highly benecial. She joined a church where there was
frequent hugging when greeting and leaving friends. These little things were huge for eliminating the depression
and continuing to have a balanced life.
Another patient was sent to a specialist for a consultation. His complaint was, She never touched me. This is
such a big part of gaining rapport with others. A touch, a simple hand shake, or a hug give us a since of belonging,
acceptance, and community as well as releasing neurotransmitters and endorphins into the brain. When you have
a consultation with the doctor, make sure you make some contact, shake hands or give him
or her a hug. These are important for your health as well as your communications.
Infants who are not touched, cuddled, and hugged have all kinds of social, emotional, and
physical problems. I know a child who had little human contact for the rst 18 months of life.
There were signicant mental, emotional, physical, and intellectual retardation problems
and developmental delays. Even her teeth came in late. She was adopted by two very loving
touching parents who added skin brushing, hair brushing, massages, reexology and other
physical therapy. She has made a remarkable recovery to probably 90% of normal.
So, yes we love the high tech and most of us do not want to go back, but we need the
high touch. Remember stay in contact with people. Balance your life.
Put Your Health in Your Own Hands. Bob Huttinga PA-C. 989-352-6500.

For forty-eight year old kids. The rst of the
Baby Boomers kids are forty-eight now. Boom-
ers began reaching 65 in 2009. While Medicare
is available to certain disabled people, this ar-
ticle is written to help Boomers and their kids.
Whered Boomers come from? After the sol-
diers returned from World War II, the average
annual number of births jumped by 4 million
nine months later. Of course there had been
fewer babies during the war, but 4 million more
babies per year is a lot. We think of Boomers
as being born from 1944 through 1960, having
no personal memory of the Big War, but having
lived the Great High Life following. Boomers
planned to continue that great life into retire-
ment.
Retirement health insurance. Boomers were
the biggest American workforce ever, over 45-
50 years. During their working lives they and
their employers paid into a U.S. government
savings account, called Medicare, to someday
be used to buy excellent, low-cost, health care
insurance for Boomers who reached retirement
years.
MEDICARE is not free. Even though money
poured into the Medicare account for years, was
invested very well by U.S. investment analysts,
and grew wildly during the High Life years, only
Medicare Part A is free.
Choose A, or A and B. Medicare choices are
known by their Part numbers A through D. Four
months before the month in which she turns 65,
a retiree may sign up for free Part A, which in-
sures inpatient hospital care, home health care,
hospice care, and some skilled nursing care.
With Part A she may also pick and pay for Part
B. Part B insurance covers medical necessities
such as doctors services, outpatient care, and
necessary home health care. The standard fee
is about $110 per month, more if youre a big
earner. With A and B shell use any doctor, hos-
pital or service providers.
Or Part C - Advantage plans. Instead of A and
B, she may choose a private insurance company
which covers additional, different, or expanded,
coverage, if she prefers. This is called Part C,
also known as Medicare Advantage or Advan-
tage Plans. Advantage plans may provide more
coverage than the governments Parts A and
B which is their advantage. They may offer
dental, optical, and vision coverage, preventive
visits and surgical coverage, maybe prescription
coverage. They may have deductibles, co-pays.
With an Advantage Plan, she pays the part B
premium plus an additional monthly premium.
Medicare sends the Part C Plan provider money
to help cover her health care costs.
Whether to select a Part C Advantage Plan
depends on her ailments, budget, and its cost.
Heres where her 47 year old kids help the most.
The Internet is a good source for locating and
comparing Medicare Advantage insurance plans
sold in Michigan.
Part D is drug coverage. If she picked an Ad-
vantage plan which provides prescription cov-
erage, she wont pick Part D. Otherwise if she
wants it, she must shop for Part D herself, with
her kids help. Try www.medicare.gov/nd-a-
plan/questions/home.aspx. Best bet? Think pos-
itive. People who view aging positively live an
average of 7.5 years longer than those who think
negatively (A Yale University study).
