The Volvo 8700 is a modern city bus that combines the most advanced technology, design, features and safety for efficient and eco-friendly city road transportation. A robust and dependable construction promotes high operating reliability, while the low entry helps swift passenger through flow. The light weight chassis also makes it possible to carry more passengers. These properties make the Volvo 8700 low entry a truly advanced alternative to meet the needs of growing and congested cities. Robust and thoroughly tested: The Volvo 8700 is based on one of the best selling chassis from Volvo Buses, the Volvo 8700. This means thoroughly tried and tested technology from a chassis that does sterling service all around the world. Sturdily dimensioned chassis components provide high dependability and a long service life. At the same time, new technology adopted from Volvos larger tourist coaches has been introduced to make a highly regarded chassis even better. The frame is simple and sturdy construction with a flat upper face for ease of body building. The chassis is delivered in two-axle configuration with a 5940 mm wheelbase. The front axle is dimensioned for 6.0 tonnes and the tough new rear axle for 10.2 tonnes, which gives excellent weight distribution and the possibility of exploiting the 16.2 tonne gross weight to the maximum.

Comfortable and safe For passengers and driver alike, a ride in the Volvo 8700 is both comfortable and safe. The low entry at the front and in the middle-just 350mm above the road-means it is easy to get on and off, not least for passengers with impaired mobility. The bus is easy to drive and offers excellent road holding and like all Volvo buses it has a high safety level, further boosted by powerful brakes with disc brakes on all wheels, roll stabilizers and a redesigned suspension system. The rear suspension is entirely new and contributes to a more comfortable ride and more secure road holding. The maximum steering angle for our Volvo city bus is 53 degrees, which further improves maneuverability. Volvo 8700 also features rigid front suspension. There is also considered freedom of choice in seat location at the higher rear part of the bus, where the wheel housings encroach minimally into the passenger compartment. The drivers environment is ergonomically designed and all the basic controls are easily accessible.

Automatic transmission Fully automatic 6 speed transmission with integrated torque converter and built-in retarder

Retarder increases braking power The transmission features an integrated retarder, which performs a major portion of all braking and thus significantly reduces wear on the brake pads.

ON-OFF FAN Saves fuel. Shroud provided to improve cooling efficiency

New disc brakes The new disc brakes on front and rear are of the same type as those found in Volvos larger buses. The brakes features EBS providing better braking power.

Tubeless Radials Urban tyres ensures higher mileage, good road grip and better braking

Broad centre aisle A broad centre aisle, which further contributes to fast and convenient passenger through flow

Electrical system The 24-volt electrical system has 110 A alternator (twin) with battery capacity of 165Ah

Low entry The low front entry promotes fast passenger through flow and makes it easier for passengers with impaired mobility, to disembark from the bus.

Modern electronic system The Volvo B7RLE has a modern multiplex electronic system that offers the possibility of detailed information about vital vehicle data, which in turn permits wider scope for vehicle diagnostics and monitoring of the buss status and condition. The system also carries out automatic checks of basic functions such as coolant level and oil, brake and turbo pressure at start-up.

Better overview of operating costs Detailed information about important vehicle data gives the operator a better overview of parameters such as fuel consumption.

Suspension The Volvo B7R Low Entry is equipped with electronically controlled air suspension (with a kneeling function), which promotes high comfort and smooth ride

Modern fuel-efficient engine The engine in the Volvo 8700, the Volvo D7E 290 , is a modern seven-litre six-cylinder diesel engine with a turbocharger and Intercooler. This engine is powered with 290 hp and conforms to the Euro 3 environmental requirements. The tough, durable and fuel-efficient engine was originally developed for Volvos heavy trucks, so theres plenty of power in reserve for the Volvo 8700s gross weight of 16.2 tonnes.

A well-matched power train The rest of the power train is dimensioned to get the greatest possible power out of the engine. For smooth and convenient progress, a 6-speed automatic transmission was selected which has an integrated retarder for enhanced braking power. The rear axle, which is new and originally developed for Volvos 8700 provides the best possible performance.
