CHAPTER I

Introduction

Good Foods helps promote good health and good health ensures greater chances

for success in life. As observed, people eating the right kinds and amount of food daily

are strong, alert, cheerful, and free of illnesses and can cope with the day activities. In

fact, when one is healthy, one is not only physically and mentally fit, but socially and

morally fit as well. Irritability, listlessness, laziness and lack of self-confidence can

attribute to poor nutrition. Good health should be the concern of everyone if the country

wants a healthy and productive citizenry. A person who is healthy, alert and free of

diseases is able to cope with the challenges in life.

All people of all countries in the world give concern to health because they cannot

accomplish to the optimum if they are in a state of complete physical, mental and social

being. The family should share the burden of promoting good health amongpeople

especially the children. Every member of the family, school and community must take

positive actions towards maintaining good health, always keeping in the mind that all

pursuits can only be successful/productive if all are healthy.

The Nutritional status of the Filipino child is a result of different underlying

courses at the household, community and country levels, which interact and ultimately

affect him/her as the individual. It has been recognized that malnutrition is closely to a

country’s level of economics development. There is sufficient evidence to show the

considerable human and economical waste is used by inadequate nutrition. It is like a

cycle that continually worsens without immediate and proper inventories.

explains the research design, setting and sampling, the instruments and the procedures in

gathering data, and the statistical tools to used to answer the problems of the study.

Research Design

This primarily a descriptive and correlation study within the input variables will

analyze for possible relation to the output variable. The descriptive research design will

used in the study, with the questionnaires, documentary analysis and interviews as means

of gathering data.

Population of the Study and Sampling Technique

The respondents of this study are the junior high school students of Malaya

National High School (s y 2007 – 2008). From among the total number of students, 60

Section Dove 20 33.3
Section King Fisher 20 33.3
Total 60 100%
Table: Population of the study

Research Instrument

With the nature of the Variables and indicative data involved in this study, the

researchers will use documentary analysis, questionnaires and interviews as the main

tools for gathering data.

Data Gathering

A letter of request for permission to secure the necessary documents and

information relevant to the study will sent to the principal of the school under study.

Distribution and administration of the questionnaire will de done personally by

the researchers and through the cooperative effort and assistance of friends. Important

document with respect to the performance of the junior students in MNHS will be gather

from the office of registrar. The researchers to complete the required data particularly the

nutritional status and scholastic performance of junior students in MNHS will also

conduct interviews.

Statistical Treatment

The data to be gathered and he other information will be secured, tabulated and

analyzed. The interpretation of the research data will be presented by means of tables.

The following statistical tools will be use in the analysis of gathering data,

1. For the question in the nutritional status of junior students, the mean and the

standard deviation will be use.

2. For the question about student’s profile, frequency and percentage will be use.
