understand the principles, methods and techniques of Business Process Engineering with respect to Enterprise Resource Planning Systems. gain skills necessary for the implementation and extension of business processes. gain experience using SAP Webflow to implement simple business processes

Unit Learning Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will be able to:

identify actors and work flows in a business process; describe the changing business environment and the importance of applying Business Process Engineering concepts to respond to that environment; use Event Controlled Process Chains to describe a business process; implement a simple workflow using SAP WebFlow; design an organisational plan to support a workflow; discuss the usefulness of automated workflows for monitoring and controlling business processes; identify the different elements of a workflow and describe their interaction.

Contact Hours: 36 hours consisting of approximately 24 hours lecture/discussion and 12 hours workshops. Students are expected to participate in the sessions by asking and responding to questions and completing the workshop tutorials. Prerequisites: Certification: None. At the completion of the course a certificate of completion will be provided and signed by representatives of Victoria University and SAP. Assignment 1 (40%) Assignment 2 (30%) Assignment 3 (30%)

ASSIGNMENTS HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Students will be expected to have access to a recent model PC, Pentium III or higher, with a fast Internet connection, preferably Broadband. A set of earphones and a microphone are also required. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS Students will need to install four applications for this subject. Version 7.10 of the SAP GUI on their computer. This software is provided free of charge and is available from your lecturer. (Please bring a USB memory stick to class). The Community Edition of the Intalio designer available at http://www.intalio.com/products/bpm/community-edition . Due to copyright provisions, students must download and install the software directly from Intalio. The software is open source and is free. ARIS Easy Design v5.5 Demo This version of the software has a 4 week limited license. Do not install until advised by the lecturer.
