Remarks 1. Figures above indicate the number of Resident Trainee (RT) posts available in individual department (i.e. hospital and specialty). For services organized on a cluster basis, e.g. Family Medicine, the RT posts will be shown under the respective cluster (instead of individual hospitals). Please note that the above figures only indicate the parent department of the RT to be recruited. RT may need to be rotated to other departments to meet training requirements or service needs. All available RT posts will be filled either by lateral transfer of existing RT (i.e. change of specialty/department of RT currently working in the HA) or recruitment of new RT via the upcoming annual recruitment exercise. For cases where a RT post is filled by lateral transfer of existing RT, the above allocation of RT posts will be adjusted accordingly. For example, assuming there are 8 and 2 posts for Hospital A Specialty X and Hospital B Specialty Y respectively. If 1 RT post in Hospital B Specialty Y is accepted for transfer to Hospital A Specialty X, the number of RT post in Hospital A Specialty X (receiving hospital/specialty) and Hospital B Specialty Y (releasing hospital/specialty) will be adjusted to 7 and 3 respectively. Such re- allocation of RT post will be updated and posted at the HA internet once the concerned lateral transfer case is confirmed. Please regularly visit our website for the updated details .

e) 4.

No Service Resident posts From now until mid-July 2011, the whole HA will focus on facilitating applicants to match their own career preferences and long-contract RT posts, and the related appointment and orientation. As a result, applicants could not expect availability of short-term full-time Service Resident (SR) posts as an option, except certain areas with specific service needs such as those linked to GOPC non-training positions.

5.

No Resident posts will be offered to the applicants who decline the offer of RT appointment a) To ensure the fairness of the recruitment exercise and maintain the planned staffing levels in HA, no other Resident posts will be offered to the applicants who have been selected for Resident Trainee (RT) appointment but declined the offer

for the whole year of 2011/12. b) In June 2011, the Human Resources Department of HAHO / the respective clusters / hospitals will give an official verbal / written offer of RT appointment to an applicant. Once this offer is given and the applicant declines the offer, NO RT post or SR post will be provided to this applicant before 1.7.2012. To avoid confusion, the communication between applicants and departments occurring before June 2011 does not constitute an official offer of RT appointment.

6.

No change of specialty / department in the first year a) For the RTs appointed in the Annual Recruitment Exercise in 2011/12, no lateral transfer will be arranged within the 1st training year due to the following reasons: i) For planning the RT posts allocation in the Annual Recruitment Exercise, the HA service needs together with the number of RT applications have been taken into consideration. Recruitment of RTs to fill the available posts can better enable HA to effectively implement its manpower plan for meeting the service needs. The staffing levels of the serving department can be maintained and the disturbances caused by the staff movement can be minimized. New RTs are encouraged to have a better understanding of the specialist training provided by the serving department so as to enable them to have a careful consideration of their career interest and aspiration. Under the existing mechanism, it is feasible for RTs who apply for lateral st transfer after the 1 training year to complete all training requirements and acquire specialist qualification in the new specialty.

ii) iii)

iv)

b)

No lateral transfer application for change of specialty / department can be submitted until completion of 6 months training in the serving department. If the transfer is successful, the earliest transfer date will fall in the SECOND YEAR of training.
