CATHOLIC EDUCATION THROUGH PAROCHIAL SCHOOL

Our salvation is dependent on the answer we will give. First, what answer can we give to this question? Will our answer be the satisfactory one or the superfluous one? Will it satisfy the Examiner who is no one else but Christ who in His Gospel has been warning us ahead and in plain words of the consequence of our answer? The life story of Fr. Damien is a poignant indication to help us pass this eschatological predicament. Baptized as Joseph de Veuster, Fr. Damien was born at Tremeloo, Belgium, on the 3rd day of January 1840. He died at Molokai, Hawaii, 15 April 1889. In 1873 he left his native land to serve as a missionary to the lepers in the island of Molokai. Molokai during this time was a dumping ground for lepers. Anarchy almost reigned in that island. Medical aid and supplies were almost non-existent. Health and sanitation were at its worst making the island seemed like a cesspool. On the onset of his sojourn among the lepers, the Fr. Damien viewed them as disgusting and revolting. But as he continued living with them, serving them, struggled with them and suffered with them his loathing toward them evolved into something positive. His abhorrence towards these people developed into a deep feeling of concern and love for them. This priest gave almost twenty years of his life in total dedication to these lepers. His reason was commonplace and simple. He believed that in doing so he was proving his love for his Creator and his neighbor. He lived and died being one of them. According to the words of Jesus in Matthews gospel this is the greatest thing we can do with our lives: to love the Lord with our whole

REV. FR. GERARDO P. ARROYO, PAROCHIAL VICAR We are almost at the end of the heart, mind and soul and to love our present liturgical year. Few Sundays neighbor as ourselves. On these two from now we will be ushering a new commandments the whole law is liturgical year. The Church at this based and the prophets as well. moment is reminding us of our own Fr. Damien lived and died for his love very end. When this time will come of God and neighbor. as we stand before Gods presence, a Jesus in quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 decisive test will be given us. This test about mans love of God and citing will consist of only one question: Leviticus. 19:18 about mans love of What has your love for God and neighbor and fusing them together as your fellowmen been like in your one, he proclaims them as the life? greatest of the commandments. Thus,

REFLECTION ON THE READINGS OF THE 30TH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME YR. A _________________

as a consequence, he gives these two Old Testament laws an equal weight in terms of seriousness and a new interpretation. The two could no longer be dichotomized. We could no longer speak of one without the other. Many saints, in the likes of Fr. Damien of Molokai and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, saw in a very vivid manner this close connection existing between what we do to our neighbor whom we see and what we do to God whom we cannot see. It is no wonder why people like them spent their lives in loving service to the most abandoned people in society - the scum of the world, as other see them, as a mode of expressing their love for God. I believe that for the many of us Christians, it is not our call to minister to the most unwanted of the world like the alcoholics, drug addicts, lepers and AIDS victims. It is our call, however, to maintain our equilibrium in some suitable way the vertical dimension of our relationship with God in prayer with the horizontal dimension of our relationship with our fellowmen in mutual service. I pray may the cross shaped by the intersection of a vertical beam with a horizontal one remind us to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as ourselves. I also pray that may all of us be able to answer in a very satisfactory manner the question that Jesus will ask us as we meet him face to face. Jesus, like our compassionate teachers in the past who gave us pointers days before the exams for us to pass would like to see us passing this final exam with flying colors.

Meditation and Love In all honesty, I did not really understand fully what meditation is about until I realize its importance in a daily life. Meditation itself is a learning experience, literally a discipline. It helps us see the truth and practicing it will bring us to a bright awakening. A good ten minutes of silence as we meditate is not hard to do each day. We must admit that each way of discipline is hard, but on the other side it is also a good education. Its a school of LOVE which stems, grows and bears in us good fruits, such as character strength and virtues. Basically it is a learning process , its growth is in the true discipleship of LOVE. LOVE is an extraordinary force which leads people to opt for courageous and generous engagement in the field of justice and peace. It is a force that has its origin in GOD, Eternal Love and Absolute Truth. Love of GOD and Love of Neighbors are concretely expressed in our gospel this Sunday. ( Mt 22: 34-40) When JESUS asks us to LOVE him, he is inviting us to see him. We see him with that power of vision, the power of love which he gives us through the Holy Spirit. In loving, sometimes we get hurt. Love your enemies and those who offended you. Outwardly we look good and feel comfortable, but at the back of our mind there is ill feelings and hate toward others. It would be easy to LOVE when we are ready to forgive with acceptance and humility in us. Forgive as soon as possible. LOVE without boundaries as our Lord Jesus loves us without conditions. It is healthy all the way, in mind, in heart and in spirit. Say It With Flowers The committee on Liturgical Arts convey their thanks and sincere gratitude to the donors of our altar floral decorations for the following months: July, 2011 August, 2011 September, 2011 Lemuel and Amancia Segura Esperanza Jaleco Mercy J. Hermonio Capt.Lyndon & Jesselia Landoy So-on Edith In every month, we have generous donors who wish to remain unnamed. Joke Time . . . This joke has probably been told so many times, so many versions, of so many people. I heard it just recently and would like to share this to you. Meditate, theres a lesson we could learn from this. Gaspar: Dad, just got my drivers license, I would like to use the family van. Father: O.K. You know I love you son and I could not refuse your request, but first, get good grades in your studies. Driving a car might affect you as what is happening to so many children now. Have a neat and clean room, make sure our yard is always clean, and cut your hair. Ask me in a few weeks and then well see. Several weeks had passed and Gaspar approached his father again, his report card in his hands. Dad I got a great marks on my report card, see for yourself . . . youve seen my room as neat as a pin and our yard is as clean as our kitchen. Can I use the family van now?

WILFREDO PAJARILLO, EDUCATION MINISTRY COORDINATOR

Sang Oktobre 15, 2011 ginhiwat ang Renewal sang mga Lectors and Commentators kag amo man ang aton Extra Ordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist. Si Rev. Fr. Julius: Liturgy is service; the Sacred celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Liturgy is the official worship of the church approved by the Pope. Liturgy is the celebration of the Paschal Mystery. Less movement and more observance of solemnity of the celebration of the mass.
Father: Thats all true, but son, you did not cut your hair as I told you. Gaspar: But Daddy, Jesus had long hair! Father: Yes son, great, you are perfectly right ! And Jesus walked everywhere he went. Birthday Greetings to our Beloved Priests HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! Better year, best of health, peace of mind, lots of happiness and more of Gods blessings are my wishes for you. Rev. Msgr. Jesus Enojo Rev. Msgr. Ramon Pet Rev. Msgr. Amadeo Escanan Rev. Msgr. PANGKALIBUTANON NGA DOMINGO SANG MISYON

(WORLD MISSION SUNDAY) ___________________
Henry Mota, Special Feature

Ang tema sa sini nga selebrasyon nagasing: As the Father has sent me, so I send you. (Jn 20:21) The universal celebration of World Mission Sunday serves to reawaken an d promote awareness of the Churchs missionary nature.

It is our duty and obligation entrusted to every generation of believers by Christ the Lord. Our task is to make everyone aware of the need for salvation by the witness of a good life, because those who are searching for truth are more impressed by what we are than by what we profess. Since we bear silent witness by our lives, it is important to get our own house in order as this may be the only book of the gospel open for people to read. As what Cardinal Newman say: Let me preach to you without preaching, not by my words but my example. Today is World Mission Sunday. It is the day when Catholics all over the world celebrate their vocation to be missionary and offer prayers and financial support for the Churchs Mission. The late Pope John Paul II described it as an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to

God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all missions of the world. (Redemptoris Missio 81). According to Missio, the money collected on World Mission Sunday goes towards helping: 83,000 priests, 455,000 religious, 1,700,000 catechists. It also supports 194,855 schools, 5,246 hospitals, 17,530 dispensaries, 577 leprosy centers, 80,560 social and charitable institutions. As we celebrate World Mission Sunday, let us respond faithfully and vigorously to this mission of spreading the Word of God. Proclaiming and living the Gospel, is not an easy task. It entails commitment and determination on our part. At this, we beg the Master todays celebration to give us the strength, courage, wisdom in fulfilling this divine mandate. May all missionaries, including ourselves be blessed by God as we tell the world the greatness of His love.
