Part II: Narrative Please answer the following in one page or less. 1. How would your school benefit from this award? Please be specific. 2. In what unique ways has your school promoted student reading and literacy? Begin your narrative here: Our vision for our students in Wheeler County is that Graduation is the only option! We want to create life-long learners. In order to do this, we must provide a plethora of books for students. Be awarded this grant would allow our school to increase the number of books in our library collection. Students and teachers have voiced their frustration over the years with the lack of books that pertain to explorers and patriots. The upper elementary students are finding it difficult to learn more when there are so few books. With this addition to our collection, students would be allowed to check out the books and take them home instead of them having to remain at school to be shared. To promote reading and literacy at Wheeler County Elementary School we have organized the following events: Wheeler County Elementary School hosts two book fairs a year to increase revenue and promote literature and materials that will capture students interest. Wheeler County Elementary School hosts reading events/contests throughout the year. Wheeler County Elementary School hosts Reading Night. Students and parents are able to participate in reading events. Wheeler County elementary School participates in the Accelerated Reading Program as a way to encourage students to read and become lifelong learners. Wheeler County Elementary School invites people from the community to read in classrooms. Wheeler County Elementary School hosts visiting authors. Wheeler County Elementary School hosts a Supper with Santa night. The school provides a pancake supper and Mrs. Claus reads with the children. Wheeler County Elementary School participates in visits to the local public library.
