The Crown and Goose Gastropub

September 2011-Present

I currently work here as a server assistant, bar back, and expo. My job includes working efficiently and swiftly under stressful situations. I assist the kitchen by organizing incoming food tickets, communicating orders, and coordinating food expedition from the kitchen to customers. I work 20-25 hours/week. July 2009-September 2011

La Costa on Market Square

This was a new South/Latin fusion restaurant in downtown Knoxville. The job included: serving, opening/closing, managing conflicts, and working under stress. It has been of extreme value to developing effective communication skills, ability to work with a wide variety of people, and self-management skill development. I worked 15-25 hours/week.

University of Tennessee- Collier Lab


October 2010-present

This is an unpaid internship. I am involved with all aspects of research including: collecting data, experimental design, analyzing data, presenting data, and carrying out experiments. The lab is a biochemistry lab focused on elucidating the roles of several inflammatory pathways and their influence on select genes upregulated in Type 1 Diabetes pathology.

Education
University of Tennessee GPA: 3.54 / 4.0 I am currently a senior in Nutrition at the University of Tennessee. In addition to nutrition courses I am taking several supplemental courses to serve as an addendum to my education including: genetics, immunology, and advanced cellular biology. I also am co-founder and president of an extracurricular Olympic Weightlifting Club. Independence High School GPA: 3.9 / 4.0 School in Thompsons Station, TN. I played lacrosse, ran, and weightlifted at the school Graduated 2008 Projected May 2012 Graduation

Scholarships
University of Tennessee Academic Scholarship: 25% tuition. HOPE Lottery Scholarship: Awarded based on attained and maintained GPA of >3.0 / 4.0

Skills
Personal communication skills as well as a confident grasp on all things related to human nutrition. I am versed on many aspects of biochemistry research-related techniques including: experimental design and execution of PCR reactions, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, RT-PCR reactions, mini-prepping, DNA ligation, restriction digests, BCA assays, Luciferase assays, and Southern blotting. I handle stress well, can react quickly to problems, and above all, learn quickly. I would like to perform research in the fields of cancer biology, molecular genetics, proteomics, or immunology at graduate school that I plan to attend in the Fall of 2012.
