Free jailed workers in Iran 5 November 2011, day of action in support of jailed workers in Iran Islamic Regime in Iran has continuously violated workers rights in Iran and has imprisoned, tortured and executed many labour activists, but ironically, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) still keeps this regime as its official member and so far has ignored all calls to expel their delegates for serious and systematic violations of labour rights in Iran; The cases below clearly illustrate our statement. Currently in prison: Shahrokh Zamani sentenced to 11 years in prison Mohammad Jarahi, sentenced to 5 years in prison Nima Pouryaghoub , sentenced to 5 years in prison Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, sentenced to 6 years in prison Reza Shahabi in prison since June 2010 Ebrahim Madadi, in prison since December 2008, sentenced toa three and a half year prison Rasoul Bodaghi sentenced to 6 years in prison Ali Nejati sentenced to one year in prison Number of striking workers of Tabriz Tractor Manufacturing Company were arrested, kept in solitary confinement, had their hair cut for humiliation and fired from their jobs.

Their "crimes" Fighting for workers rights including rights to union activities without fear of being persecuted Demanding to be paid their wage for the work they have done Demanding the right to strike and freedom of expression Organising May Day Establishing labour organisations Labour activists have been continuously harassed, been attacked, kidnapped, arrested, tortured, being deprived of seeing their families, and even their families have not been spared from harassment. One important aspect of these workers being jailed is that their families have lost the only source of income they had, and they are under lots of pressure to make ends meet. Since taking power in 1979, the Islamic regime have targeted workers in Iran and kept their activities under the surveillance. Many workers are in prison and sentenced to long sentences with charges such as building dissident groups and publicity against the system which translates to being active and vocal of workers rights. The attack on labour activists must be stopped! The international support for jailed workers in Iran has been formed to support these jailed workers and demands: the immediate and unconditional release of all jailed workers in Iran the expulsion of delegates of the Islamic regime of Iran from International Labour Organisation (ILO) We call on all trade unions, concerned organisations and individuals to join us in this campaign. We need to show our solidarity with these jailed workers and their families.
