Czas Past Continuous stosujemy do wyraania: 1. Wydarze przeszych trwajcych okrelonej chwili:

In the afternoon I was eating lunch. [Po poudniu jadem obiad] Okrelona chwila z przeszoci - konkretne popoudnie. At 3 o'clock we were playing tennis. [O godzinie 3 gralimy w tenisa]

2. Wydarze przeszych, ktre przerwao inne wydarzenie. Wydarzenie przerywajce nie przyjmuj formy continuous, lecz form past simple:

I was taking a shower when the phone rang. [Braem prysznic, kiedy zadzwoni telefon] - Mj prysznic zostaje przerwany przez dzwonek telefonu. He was leasing the building when the fire broke out. [Wychodzi z budynku, kiedy wybuch poar] By ju w trakcie wychodzenia, czynno t przerwa mu poar.
