Substation Automation

Configuration with CAP 531

The Substation Automation solutions include control, protection and monitoring for power plant, transmission, distribution and industry applications. Functions vary from single-function units to comprehensive, fully integrated, high-performance substation automation systems.
Tools

Configuration of function blocks can be modified specifically to the application and downloaded into the unit. The tool can be used for both control and protection functions, and also supports upand downloading of full configuration including graphics. The two windows in the application are the project tree structure to the left in the illustration below and the worksheet to the right. The windows are separate so that their dimensions can be altered independently. The project tree structure allows a clear overview of the terminals on several levels; project, organization, station and bay levels. The application also has a storage tool so that all terminals can be stored offline in an orderly fashion. Configuration is made easy with the drag-and-drop facility. All functions in a 500-series transmission terminal are represented as function blocks. These include control, protection, autoreclosing, logic and disturbance recorder functions with both input and output signals. Engineering is done off-line on the PC. Default

Several PC tools have been developed to take advantage of the flexibility of 500-series transmission products: there are tools for configuration, monitoring and parameter setting, and for the collection and evaluation of disturbance data. These software applications run independently in a PC, on- or off-line, or as part of the the control system of the local station. Together they provide increased efficiency for transmission control and protection terminals.
CAP 535

The CAP 535 configuration, programming and setting tool package is intended for the 500-series transmission products, specifically during the engineering and commissioning phase. In CAP 535 communication, binary I/O and internal logic functions are configured in a worksheet, while parameters are accessed through a setting window.

configuration in the terminals is easily adapted to customer needs. Function blocks are stored in a library, from which selection and connection are made. Since the engineer works off-line, the entire configuration can be reviewed and documented before commissioning.
On-line debug function

values and settings can be easily accessed. Double clicking a function block within the worksheet initiates settings for that specific function block. Parameters can be read or downloaded into the terminal. A feature in the program also compares the settings in the terminal with those stored in the PC.
Requirements:

The debug function offers an on-line check of all internal signals; it is a powerful tool, that facilitates commissioning and maintenance in addition to fault tracing. The screen is continuously updated so that changes in the status of a signal can be monitored. Logical errors in the configuration can be found and wiring mistakes can be detected.

Product compatibility:

The parameter setting window can be invoked from CAP 535 in two ways: from the terminal level of the navigator, or from within the worksheet. When the parameter setting window is started from the worksheet, it invokes a navigator, with which service
