REFLECTION ON THE READINGS OF THE 33RD SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME YR. A _________________
REV. FR. GERARDO P. ARROYO, PAROCHIAL VICAR

We are now in the penultimate Sunday of the present Liturgical Year. Next Sunday we will be celebrating the Feast of Christ the King signifying the end of the present Liturgical Year. The Sunday succeeding the Feast of Christ the King will be the First Sunday of Advent which in turn is the First Sunday of the subsequent Liturgical Year B. It is a part of the teachings of the Church that the time between the Pentecost and the end of the liturgical Year represents the period between the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Day and the coming of Jesus at the end of the world. Individually, as far as we Christians are concerned, this period represents the time that proceeds from the day of our baptism to the coming of Jesus at our death. It is no wonder why the Church the Church is so insistent and so persistent in urging her children to see to it that everything be ready within us by the time when Jesus will come. It is in the moment of our death when the decision will be handed down whether we will remain in Gods Kingdom for all eternity or be excluded from it forever. It could also be by the way we decide on how we live our life in daily basis and positing out such decision into its practical aspect. Thus, it lies in our striving to live a life worthy of being a genuine Christian. Living a genuine Christian life as the Church teaches us means using our Gods given gifts in a creative manner principled by two basic Christian commandments or by the two love commandments, as other spiritual writers say, the love of God and the love of neighbor. Hence, let this be the grace we

should ask from Jesus as we wait in joyful hope the day of our death and the day of Jesus coming. God gives gifts to all His children. We are Gods children though baptism. These gifts given to us are meant to be just that- gifts. The most amazing thing about these gifts is that the more we use them for others, the more they expand and increase in value. The more we turn these gifts into our personal possessions, the less valuable they become. The Lord does not teach us burying our talents. This is the message of the parable in our gospel reading. Jesus expects us to boldly to use our talents so that they can increase. We could not stand before Gods presence and make excuses for not using the little that we have. By using creatively the gifts God has given us we are being faithful to Him. This is never boring. Being of service to others is to experience the joy promised by our Christian life. In our part then, we should always avoid fear and false sense of security, as what St. Paul says to his Christian community in Thessalonica. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. . . Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do but let us stay awake and sober. (v.v. 3, 6) We should be firm in our belief that God is reliable and keeps His promises. In our part, we are should mean to be reliable in our duties, commitments and promises. Each day we are ready to meet the Lord by doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way. Reliability is basic trust. It is a Christian virtue. We can turn to God in all our needs in any circumstance we are in. Let us be too reliable in our commitments to God and to one another.

YEAR OF THE YOUTH ___________________ Almighty Father, God of life and love, You love us. You trust and choose us to participate in Your saving work. Empower us, Your young people, to stand firm in the faith through Your Holy Spirit. May we bring our fellow young people closer to You.
Enable all of us: Your young people, together with those ministering to us in the church, in families and in society, to make a decisive response to our universal vocation: to live fully and fruitfully by doing everything in love as we follow Jesus Christ. In communion with the rest of the Church, we pray that this CBCP Year of the Youth become a kairos time for the youth ministry of Your Church and a new springtime for us, Filipino youth: a special period of growing in Your grace through our living in youthful holiness and through our effort to reach out as a Church to those waiting for Your love. Together with our Blessed Mother, we lift this prayer to You in Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Friend, Brother and Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

DONT BURY YOUR TALENTS

Theme: Using our God-given gifts Object: A Frisbee Scripture: For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. Matthew 25:29
As I am sure you know, this is a Frisbee. In a few minutes, this Frisbee will help us to learn more about what God expects from you and me, but first, a word from Gods Word. This morning, our Bible story is a familiar story that Jesus told. It is called the Parable of the Talents. In the Parable of the Talents, a very wealthy man was going to go on a trip. He called his three servants together and told them that he would be gone for a long time and that he was leaving them in charge of all of his wealth. He divided up his wealth and gave it to the three servants. To the first servant, he gave five talents. Now, that might not sound like much to you, but in Jesus day, that was a lot of money. To the second servant, he gave two talents. Not as much as the first servant received, but still a large sum of money. To the third servant, he gave one talent. Even one talent was worth quite a lot! The first servant took the five talents his master had given him and put it to work and earned five more talents. The second also invested his two talents wisely and earned two more talents. The third servant took his one talent and buried it in the ground for safe keeping. When the master returned, he was very pleased when the first two servants told him that they had doubled his money. Well done, he said. Because you had been faithful with what I have given you, I will give you much more. How about you? he asked the third servant. What did you do with the money that I left with you? The third servant said to the master, I knew that you were a hard man and I was afraid, so I went out and hid your treasure in the ground so that it would be safe. See, here it is. The master was angry. You are a wicked and lazy servant. You could have at least put my money in the bank where it would earn more. He then took the one talent from the lazy servant and gave it to the one who had ten talents. In this Parable of the Talents, God is the Master and you and I are his servants. The talents that the master gave to his servants in this story was a form of money. But God has given us talents too, hasnt he? God created each of us with special gifts and he expects us to use those gifts for the purpose for which he gave them to us. You all know what this is, it is a Frisbee, but pretend for a moment that you do not know what it is and that you have never seen one before. You might think it was a dinner plate... or a hat... or perhaps a tool for digging in the sand. It could be just about anything, but it isnt. It is a Frisbee and the person who created the Frisbee created it for a purpose. The purpose of a Frisbee is to fly! The Frisbee isnt very impressive to look at, is it? In a world full of high-tech electronic toys, it is pretty low on the totem pole. But boy, can it fly! Sometimes you and I may look at the talents that God has given to others and think that God hasnt given us very much talent. We might even be tempted to hide our talent. But when we use our God-given talent to be all that God intended for us to be... boy, can we fly!

Dear Father, help us to use the talents that you have given us to be what you intended for us to be. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Kami nga mga Pamatan-on

NO ORDINARY LIFE ___________________

This was not been the first time I have shared about peoples lives to my friends but, nevertheless, this was the most unforgettable story that inspired our hearts and printed such beautiful lessons about satisfaction in life. Each of us was born with arms and legs that helped us to walk properly and hold something we want to handle. But, what if we do not have those arms and legs, how do we feel? Of course, others will say they were misfortunate and unable to enjoy the world. But, I have known someone who was born with no arms and legs yet he was fulfilled with happiness and satisfaction. Bygone, when I was viewing videos in YouTube, I was captured by a video clip entitled Perseverance, this was a story of Nick Vujicic, who inspired millions of people about living life even there is a lot of limitations. He was born in 1982 in Australia without arms and legs. Although his body was different to other young boys, his family realized that his mind and spirit were sharp enough just like others. Even though, Nick has no limbs, he had touched millions of people deeper than a hand ever could do and guided them in ways farther than a foot could reach. He proved to the world that there is no reason to limit ourselves in enjoying life. He gave us the hope to do things we thought we could never do. He told us that when we put God to our hearts, we feel complete, we are satisfied and we are certified happy inside. This man has the faith and the strength to handle things and work out for activities which some may thought he can not do it well. He gave the courage to stand even there is no back up for him to help. After I have watched that video, I cannot hold my tears. Maybe, those tears were the reflection about life, a lesson that Nick tried to make us understand. When we look to our lives and think we cant do that, we cant do this and when we concentrate of looking to ourselves and we wish of having things we do not have, we are giving point that we are not contented, that we are not satisfied, that we are not happy. But, when we look out to ourselves in another dimension and try to enjoy things we are having now, we will understand why God designed us and how thankful we are of having such a good life. Lifes satisfaction cannot be measured by the achievements we have achieved, by the material things we have bought, by the different places we have travelled because sooner or later, all of these will just come to an end. When these things disappear, we ask for more, we look for more, we want for more - there is no satisfaction at all. But when we tend to open our hearts and minds and let God be the center of our lives, when we give pure love to mankind and understand them, we will realized the true satisfaction of life. We will never look for more things when we know many people love and care for us. We will never buy things that we thought could fulfill our happiness when we know there are many people who are happily waiting for our presence. We will never try to come to faraway places when we know that there are many people who want to stay and bond with us. Let us be reflected of what Nick had in his life. He had no arms and legs but he never asked something more to God. Instead, he believed that he worth everything and that makes him smile- to feel happy instead of getting mad about his situation. So when you think life gets bitter, never frown, but look through it, and there you will realize that God has a purpose of everything you are taking. Dont forget to pray, and put courage to face every circumstance that shapes you. We must realized into ourselves that Gods perspective is for us to see life no ordinary but a special gift everyone should be thankful of.

DEBOSYON SA MGA BALAAN NGA MGA KALAG SA PURGATORYO ___________________

Henry Mota, Special Feature

Every soul You have entrusted to me, Jesus, I will try to aid with prayer and sacrifice, so that Your Grace can work in them. O Great Lover of souls, my Jesus, I thank You for this immense confidence with which You have deigned to place souls in our care. Ginasiling nga: Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. As a reminder of our duty to pray for the suffering faithful in Purgatory, the Church has dedicated the month of November to the Holy Souls. The Holy Souls are those who have died in the state of grace but who are not yet free from all punishment due to their unforgiven venial sins and all other sins already forgiven for which satisfaction is still to be made. They are certain of entering Heaven, but first they must suffer in Purgatory. The Holy Souls cannot help themselves because for them the night has come, when no man can work (John 9:4). It is our great privilege of brotherhood that we can shorten their time of separation from God by our prayers, good works, and, especially, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Our beloved dead once they are in purgatory become poor souls. They can only rely on our prayers and the intercession of the saints in heaven to hasten their entrance to heaven. They cannot do anything for themselves, except to wait for Gods mercy and the most effective help to the poor souls is the Eucharist or the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we offer for them.

Purgatory: Padre Pio told this story to Padre Anastasio. One evening, while I was alone in choir to pray, I heard the rustle of a suit and I saw a young monk that stirred next to the High altar. It seemed that the young monk was dusting the candelabra and straightening the flower vases. I thought he was Padre Leone rearranging the altar, and, since it was supper time, I... went to him and I told him: Padre Leone, go to dine, this is not the time to dust and to straighten the altar. But a voice, that was not Father Leones answered me: I am not Padre Leone, and who are you? , I asked him. I am a brother of yours that made the novitiate here. I was ordered to clean the altar during the year of the novitiate. Unfortunately many times I didnt reverence Jesus while passing in front of the altar, thus causing the Holy Sacrament that was preserved in the tabernacle to be disrespected. For this serious carelessness, I am still in Purgatory. Now, God, with his endless goodness, sent me here so that you may quicken the time I will enjoy Paradise. Take care of me. I believed to be generous to that suffering soul, so I exclaimed: you will be in Paradise tomorrow morning, when I will celebrate Holy Mass. That soul cried: Cruel! Then he wept and disappeared. That complaint produced in me a wound to the heart that I have felt and I will feel my whole life. In fact I would have been able to immediately send that soul to Heaven but I condemned him to remain another night in the flames of Purgatory. Ginasiling pa gid: There are times more souls released from purgatory during the Consecration of the Mass than at any time. Christmas is the day of the year when most souls are delivered; then feast days of Our Lord, Our Lady and great saints. Souls receive much grace from prayers offered for them on their birthdays, day of baptism, and anniversary of death. The more we work for Poor souls on earth the more other will pray for us, the more merciful will Christ be with us when we are in purgatory. Our Lady asked that we pray very much for the poor souls; that we pray: 5 I believe in God.... 1 Hail Holy Queen... 1 Our Father.... 1 Hail mary.... 1 glory be to the Father... 1 Requiem (Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them and may the rest in peace. Amen! ) Our Lady said that if we pray the prayers well deliver so many souls! The Holy wounds are the treasures of treasures for the souls in purgatory An indulgence, applicable ONLY to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted when the faithful devoutly visit a cemetery and pray for the departed.
