IPSF Call
Joint Working Group positions 2011-13

IPSF is calling for interested members to run for the two IPSF positions in the World Healthcare Students Symposium Joint Working Group. In 2004 the idea was raised to bring medicine, pharmacy and allied health students together in an international forum to generate discussion and understanding between the professions, to develop skills and awareness of concepts in multidisciplinary working, and to be advocates for a cooperative multidisciplinary approach to patient centered care to optimise health outcomes. Five established international partner organisations in health, the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA), the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF), the European Nursing Students Association (ENSA), the European Pharmaceutical Students Association (EPSA) and the European Medical Students Association (EMSA) have been working in partnership not only to organise this event but also to investigate ongoing joint initiatives that support the overall vision for the future. The first edition of this event was held in November 2005 in Malta. The second event was held in November 2007 in Albufeira, Portugal and the 3rd symposium in Alexandria, Egypt in November 2009. This November, the World Healthcare Students Symposium (WHSS) will take place in Prague, Czech Republic. The World Healthcare Students Symposium (WHSS) event shall take place every two years as a regular joint initiative of the partner organisations. This initiative is known as the Joint Working Group (JWG) and is formed by representatives of the different organizations, with approximately 10 members in total. IPSF currently have two representatives in the JWG.

Joint Working Group Representatives Portfolio As a member of the Joint Working Group you will be responsible for representing IPSF in organising the next World Healthcare Students Symposium. The duties of the Joint Working Group members will be: Planning the event programme and arranging speakers according to the timeline. Actively promoting the event during meetings, via email and other means of communication. Attending at least two joint meetings (face-to-face) before the World Healthcare Students Symposium event in 2013.

Developing and issuing press releases and joint statements. Issuing calls for bids to host future World Healthcare Students Symposium events Considering applications to host future World Healthcare Students Symposium two years in advance. Attending the World Healthcare Students Symposium event (in 2013), being present at the venue two days before the start of the event. Organising the post-event report and follow up.

Candidates for this position must have access to email on a daily basis. In addition, previous experience with organising events, good communication skills, a solid knowledge of the IPSF and how it operates, and a contagious exuberance for interprofessional collaboration are definite assets in successfully completing the expectations of this position.
