Frank Waterhouse should replace Bert Donaldson with a more competent person having a diverse knowledge of the European

culture in order to efficiently execute their goals and objectives set by the higher management. There are certain issues that made us to come to this conclusion to replace him rather than helping him to adopt to the European culture. Bert having an insufficient approach towards teamwork emphasized on team work but he failed to realize that it differs in both the cultures, American and European. In American culture they have an autocratic style of leadership on the contrary to this Europeans have more consensual leadership style where the decision is agreed with the consensus of the majority of the people. He has inadequate knowledge of mergers and acquisitions department that is the key requirement to efficiently execute the assignment allocated to Frank and Donaldson. Bert showed a lack preparation as he wasnt prepared to face the cultural difference between American culture and European culture. Apart from being unprepared for the assignment Bert was reluctant to adapt to the European environment even after pending one year there. The hiring by Bert was inefficient as the trainers hired by Bert for training the executive managers showed an unprofessional attitude. He also arranged meetings on a short notice on a very tight schedule which is considered to be very unprofessional in the European culture. Berts family found it very difficult to adjust to the culture, as his wife failed to socialize and his daughter found difficult to adjust to the education system. There was a communication barrier as he was reluctant to share his thoughts with both his superiors as well as his sub ordinates. Apart from his reluctance to share his thoughts there was a language barrier and it was difficult for him to communicate with those who werent able to speak. There is also a major difference in both the cultures in terms of etiquettes as there are things which are considered acceptable in one culture but not the other culture, and Bert failed to adapt to these changes and found it difficult to cope with the routine activities because of this.

All the above mentioned arguments are against retaining Bert Donaldson. Even if we were to retain Bert then we would have to incur an extra cost of training him to cope with the challenges he is facing and still it wont give us a guarantee that he would be able to work to his full potential in this environment. So the most logical decision is to replace him with a more competent person
