theres a better way to helP ProbleM gaMblers.

Neither mandatory pre-commitment or lowering maximum bets will help problem gamblers. Ive witnessed problem gambling in the community and I believe the only way to treat it is through counselling and education. Im greatly concerned that in making clubs spend $3 billion to install the technology, all the Government will actually achieve is to put people out of work and strip money from the charities and sporting groups that clubs support. T WORK WON

Ross Ferrar, CEO Gaming Technologies Association.

PROBLEM GAMBLERS MAY BET MORE.

I think there may in fact be an unintended consequence where gamblers set higher limits and then will gamble more amounts of money to meet those particular limits.
Professor Alex Blaszczynski, Director of the University of Sydneys Gambling Treatment Clinic.

THE GOVERNMENTS GOT IT WRONG.

For the past two years, I have asked the real experts what they think of pre-commitment. I am reluctantly coming to the view that the governments proposal may not be the way to go.
