GOLDMAN SACHS ENHANCES ALGORITHMIC TRADING OFFERING IN INDIA MUMBAI, August 13, 2009 Goldman Sachs announced today the release of six new algorithms to its electronic trading offering in India. We have seen strong demand for electronic trading in India this year, particularly via our algorithmic strategies, said Siddharth Chhabria, Head of India Sales for Goldman Sachs Electronic Trading. During the second quarter of 2009, Goldman Sachs electronic trading volume of India equities tripled, while the electronic trading volume for futures grew more than four-fold. More than 90% of the equities electronic trading volume is now directed to algorithms versus straight-tomarket orders, Chhabria said. The additional algorithms will give clients access to sophisticated strategies they have used successfully in other markets, he added. Goldman Sachs offers a range of algorithmic strategies in Asia for its clients, including benchmark matching (VWAP, TWAP, 4Cast), dynamic volume participation (Participate, Dynamic Scaling), and liquidity seeking (SONAR, Piccolo) algorithms. In India, Goldman Sachs has provided direct market access (DMA) and algorithmic trading since early 2009. The fast pick-up of algorithms demonstrates investors increased interest in India and their appetite for more advanced trading strategies, said Shuya Kekke, Managing Director and Head of Goldman Sachs Electronic Trading in Asia. The release of additional algorithms is in line with our continued commitment to expanding our service offerings in India.
