~J.C. Monterrosa received a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Record of The Year~ Clovis, CA, November 28th, 2011
On November 10, 2011, Central Valleys Juan Carlos Monterrosa attended the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony held at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Juan Carlos goes by J.C. Monterrosa. He was invited to the awards because he received a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Record of The Year. The nomination was for his work as an Engineer on Ricky Martins newest album Msica + alma + sexo, which was released internationally early this year. JC was joined by his proud parents Rudy and Luisa Monterrosa and brother Rudy Monterrosa Jr. Both his parents are business owners and residents of Clovis, CA. JC is based out of Nashville, TN, where he works as a freelance recording engineer. J.C., the youngest child of Rudy & Luisa Monterrosa, was born in San Francisco and lived in Pacifica, but was raised in Southern California. He discovered the guitar at fourteen, but soon began recording his music and decided he needed to further his newfound passion. I knew instantly that music was what I wanted to do. I just needed to find a way to get a bachelors degree in music, or my parents would never have approved, because they always instilled the importance of education, says J.C. Monterrosa. After graduating from Bloomington High School in 1994, J.C. went on to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. While attending Berklee, J.C. recorded music with Clay Cook (Zac Brown Band) and John Mayer. He graduated in 1997 with a bachelors degree in Composition and Music Production & Engineering. J.C. decided to move to Nashville for an internship with Emerald Sound Studios. While at Emerald, he met acclaimed recording engineer Steve Marcantonio and the friendship would eventually help him 2nd engineer on projects for Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn and many more. He quickly moved up to staff engineer before eventually deciding to embark on a freelance career, honing his craft while learning from talents such as David Thoener (Aerosmith, Santana, Matchbox 20), Tony Brown (Steve Earle, Reba, George Strait, Jimmy Buffett), Michael Omartian (Rod Stewart, Peter Cetera, Amy Grant) and Obie Obrien (Bon Jovi, The Nighthawks, Alice Cooper). His career path eventually led him to engineering on varied sessions, recording artists like Donna Summer, Kenny Rogers, Keith Urban, Delbert McClinton and Rascal Flatts. In 2010, on recommendation from OBrien, a call was made to J.C. Monterrosa, by songwriter/producer Desmond Childs (Livin La Vida Loca, Living On A Prayer, Waking Up In Vegas, What It Takes) production manager, Brian Coleman, asking if he would be available to engineer on the new Ricky Martin album. Upon accepting the gig, they flew him down to Florida the next day where he began working on the record in Golden Beach. Musica+Alma+Sexo was released in North America on February 1st, 2011 debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Latin Pop charts, and achieved RIAA certified platinum status shortly thereafter. The album track, Lo Mejor de Mi Vida Eres Tu, a duet with Natalia Jimnez of Spanish band La Quinta Estacin, was submitted for

The show began in 1989 and honors the best in Latin music. Ricky Martin is nominated for Msica + alma + sexo (Pop Album of the Year and Pop Song of the Year). This is a fan based award, so people are encouraged to vote at www.PremioLoNuestro.com. J.C. Monterrosa frequently comes home to Clovis, Ca. His most recent visit was during Thanksgiving where he spent his time visiting with friends and family who are still celebrating and praising his recent accomplishments. J.C. balances being down-to-earth while achieving great results in the studio, be it tracking, overdubbing or mixing. He recently engineered a project for Chad Taylor, guitarist for the band Live (Lightning Crashes and The Dolphins Cry) and has upcoming projects with Obie Obrien this winter. J.C. plans to continue to visit Clovis and has met with several local musicians and studios here in Fresno. He is optimistic and always approachable. He is open to working with unsigned bands or helping further existing artists that want to push their careers in a fresh direction, and loves all types of music and opportunities. J.C. is also available for speaking engagements and interviews to discuss the music business and some of the tricks he has learned along the way to making a great record and a great sound. J.C.
