Digital Control System - Web course

COURSE OUTLINE The core course in electrical engineering introduces the fundamental concepts, principles and application of digital control system analysis and design to the postgraduate students. The course material will be prepared in such a manner so that it will be very useful not only for students of postgraduate programme in control systems but also for final year undergraduate students, post-graduate students, teachers and practitioners. This course goes deeper into the various aspects of digital control engineering. Each topic will be developed in logical progression with up-to-date information. The topics cover classical control design methods as well as the modern control design techniques. A number of chosen problems will be solved to illustrate the concepts clearly. There shall be a suite of exercises based on MATLAB and Simulink. Syllabus: Discrete-time system representations: modelling discrete-time systems by linear difference equations and pulse transfer functions, time responses of discrete systems; discrete state-space models, stability of discrete-time systems. Finite settling-time control design: deadbeat systems, inter-sample behavior, timedomain approach to ripple-free controllers, limitations and extensions of the deadbeat controller. State-feedback design techniques: linear system properties, state feedback using Ackermann's formula, Tracking of known reference inputs. Output-feedback design techniques: observer design: full order, reduced order, observer-based output feedback design. Real-time implementation of digital controllers. Pre-requisites: 1. Control Systems Engineering - I. Coordinators: Dr. Indrani Kar Department of Electronics and Communication EngineeringIIT Guwahati Prof. S.
