The Liebherr rear suspension system is unique in that it avoids problems
normally associated with nose cone and other linkage designs.
It also allows less side motion of the rear tires during axle oscillation
which provides for a wider and more stable stance of the rear

Main frame
x The main frame, designed using the latest design technologies, is constructed of massive frame rails with tubular cross-
members. The high strength nickel-copper alloy steel (A710), welded both internally and externally, with 100 % ultrasonic
inspection of all critical welds, make this the most reliable frame in service.

Power module
x Engine (up to 1864 kW/2500 HP), alternator and radiator are mounted on a separate roll-out frame to allow fast change
out of the complete power module assembly.
x Designed with maintenance personnel in mind, with access to all engine components greatly improved.
x The radiator and main alternator can be removed separately if required.

Design Benefits
4
Nitrogen/oil suspension system
x Liebherr’s 457 m/18” diameter spindle has eliminated
spindle structural failures! Parallel swinging arms
transmit braking, cornering and steering loads to main
frame.
x Simple, rugged nitrogen/oil suspension elements to
cushion ride. This suspension system supports vertical
forces only, no side loading.
x Proven suspension system incorporates kingpin inclina-
tion, caster and camber to improve handling and mini-
mize tire scrubbing.
x 20,000 hour wear components.

Full floating dump cylinder mount Rear axle housing

x Does not constrain main frame torsional deflection. Life x The simple, rugged axle housing supports the payload
of frame pin attachments – no maintenance. “Load through the nitrogen/oil suspension system mounted
Management” design philosophy – distributes loads into directly over the centerline of the housing.
main frame, dictates mode of transfer, lowers unit stress – x Axle housing attachment links drive directly into the
longer life components. main frame rails at four points, eliminating failures
associated with two-point anchoring systems.
