Myrna Lopez Practice Debate Practice Introduction: Hello my name is Myrna and I am arguing pro womens suffrage.

Thesis: Women deserve the right to vote because they are just as smart as men are and morally, they are better than men are. Point 1. As written in the bible, there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Saying this men and women should have equal rights and liberties. Women deserve the right to vote because they are just as educated as men are and some are even further advanced mentally. In the recent year, womens enrollment in universities has been increasing. Proof of this is the Seven Sisters Colleges. These institutions are all women colleges that were founded in the mid to late 19th century. Enrollment of women in the colleges had been increasing significantly and even though women knew they would be in great debt they didnt mind it because they knew it was something that would benefit them for the rest of their lives. Statistics show that education in the southern states was the highest in the nation. In the North Atlantic district, for every 1000 enrolled, there were 111 women. In the South Atlantic, for every 1000 enrolled, there were 230 women. In the South Central district, for every 1000 there were 287. Tennessee had the highest in the union with 2486 women in state colleges. It beat out Massachusetts by 43 women. Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama have more women receiving college education than all of the Northern states together. Not only were women enrolling in the universities, they had also gained positions that in the past only men had. In 1893, Alice F. Palmer was appointed the dean of one of the colleges in Chicago. These women were at a disadvantage from the men because men are trained from a young age and attend special classes in order to prepare to take on these positions, but the women being appointed were self-taught and took on the position without any questions or doubts. Point 2. Women are better morally than men are. According to the 1904 United States census, the criminal class is relatively small among women, compared to men. That year, the number of men in the penitentiary was 51,779. That same year, the number of women incarcerated was 1,705. This shows that women were more reliable as members of society because they make better judgment over men. Therefore, we must admit that if women are given the vote they would be great promoters of honesty, justness, and morality. Conclusion: As members of society, women are the more reliable source to cast the correct vote. They have shown interest in gaining an education and they are just as intelligent as men are. There is also proof that they are better morally and prison record show that.
