A group of young people in a local de-
nominational church were hungry for the
things of God. Our spiritual needs were not
being met. We cried unto the Lord to bring
someone in to help us, someone who would
be more interested in service than in mon-
ey.
Meanwhile, Mr. Frank Allen, who lived
near here had become a widower, and had
gotten in touch with his sister, Harriet Ea-
The Bureau of Fire Services
today urges consumers to thor-
oughly water their Christmas
tree daily and practice impor-
tant safety measures to avoid
fre risk and reduce the chance
of a tragedy during this joyous
and festive holiday season.
A dry tree is extremely
fammable compared to a well-
watered tree, said Acting State
Fire Marshal Karen Towne.
When a Christmas tree catches
fre, you have only seconds to
escape a potentially deadly fre
--- dont risk the loss of family,
friends or your home.
Each year, an average of 240
home fres start with Christmas
trees causing 13 deaths, 27 in-
juries and more than $16.7 mil-
lion in direct property damage,
according to the National Fire
Protection Association. On av-
erage, one of every 18 reported
home Christmas tree fres re-
sulted in a death compared to
an average of one death per 141
total reported home fres.
Statistics show that Christ-
mas tree fres are much more
likely to cause death than av-
erage home fres, said Towne.
The risk of fre is higher with
natural trees than artifcial ones.
And, shorts in electrical lights
or open fames from candles,
lighters or matches are the most
common causes of tree fres.
Safety tips for selecting, set-
ting up, and lighting your holi-
day tree:
n If you have an artifcial
tree, be sure it is labeled or cer-
tifed by the manufacturer as
fre retardant. This indicates the
Lions Club to sponsor hearing screening clinic
The Howard City Lions Club, within
District #11-E-1, in cooperation with the
William and Leni Carls Speech and Hear-
ing Clinic of Munson Medical Center,
will sponsor a mobile hearing screening
clinic in Howard City during Winterfest.
The Clinic will be on Saturday, January
21 at the Howard City Fire Station from
10:00am-3:00pm. Munson and the Lions
Clubs have cooperated in the purchase,
staffng and equipping of the van in order
to meet the unfulflled need of residents in
outlying area for adequate, skilled hearing
assessment. Each Lions Club, within the
53 community northwestern Michigan
district, will host one or more hearing-
screening clinics.
The Clinic will have two goals. The
frst goal will be to identify the children
who have hearing loss. Past Director, Ed
Smith of the William and Leni Carls Hear-
ing Clinic states, Present statistics reveal
that one out of every fve children in our
area, between the ages of birth and seven
years, have hearing impairments. Many
have not yet been identifed. Many other
children have been identifed to have
hearing impairment, but much too late af-
ter the onset of the loss. We want to detect
the loss as early as possible so that correc-
tions can be made and the childs educa-
tion is not affected.
There is a second goal of the mobile
hearing clinic to identify senior citizens
with hearing losses. The clinic will offer
professional assistance to senior citizens
as to whether a person is in need of ampli-
fcation (hearing aid) or whether the pres-
ent aid the person is wearing is function-
ing properly or in need of replacement.
The clinic will offer 15-minute ap-
pointments to anyone interested. To make
an appointment, please call Howard City
Lion Rich at 231.937.4141.

Maya angelou
tree will resist burning and should extin-
guish quickly.
n If selecting a live tree, choose a
tree with fresh, green needles that do not
break when touched or lose many needles
when the tree is tapped on the ground.
n Before placing the tree securely in
the stand, cut 1-2 from the base of the
trunk and place it in water immediate-
ly; keep the stand flled because heated
rooms dry out live trees rapidly.
nSet up the tree and decorations away
from windows and doors where clear ac-
cess may be needed in an emergency; and
away from freplaces, radiators, space
heaters, heating vents and other heat
sources.
n Use lights that have the label of an
independent testing laboratory; check the
packaging some lights are only for in-
door use.
n Dont use any strings of lights that
are frayed or broken.
n Dont connect more than three
strands of mini light sets and a maximum
of 50 bulbs for screw-in bulbs.
nNever use lit candles to decorate the
tree and keep lit candles away from deco-
rations and anything that can burn.
nPlace the tree as close to an electri-
cal outlet as possible so that cords are not
running long distances. Do not place rugs
over cords to disguise them; this can be-
come an increased fre hazard.
n Always unplug all Christmas tree
lights before leaving home or going to
bed.
n Dispose of the tree promptly when
Christmas is over or when the tree starts
to drop needles. Dont leave it in the house
or garage.

SPECIAL CEREMONY LETTER TO
THE EDITOR
Reader moved to tears
TO THE EDITOR:
As an animal lover I was moved to tears by the letter
from Kim Beckett (12-5-11). Even though the outcome was
less than hoped for, it gives me comfort to know the poor
little cat was treated with compassion and love. Many
thanks to Kim Beckett and Dr. Lepley for their efforts. I
wish the driver who hit the kitty had stopped to render
aid.

NORTH AMERICAN
PRECIS SYNDICATE
Many Americans associate
influenza with the fall, but you
may be surprised to learn that
during many flu seasons, influ-
enza activity doesnt peak until
winter or early spring. In fact,
virus activity peaked in Febru-
ary or later in approximately
half of the past 35 flu seasons.
That is why the American
Lung Association is spreading
the message about the impor-
tance of influenza vaccination
throughout the winter months
and beyond as part of its Faces
of Influenza campaign. Every-
one 6 months of age and older
is recommended for annual im-
munization, which is safe and
effective and the best way to
help prevent influenza.
With vaccination recom-
mended and beneficial into the
winter months, make it your
New Years resolution to get im-
munizedits not too late, and
youll be helping to protect your
health and those around you in
one simple and achievable step.
After being immunized, it takes
about two weeks for the body to
develop a protective response to
the flu vaccine. Parentsdont
forget that children 6 months
through 8 years of age receiv-
ing a flu shot for the first time
need two doses approximately
STATEPOINT MEDIA
Just because it isnt summer
doesnt mean you should put
away those sunglasses.
Most people think sunglasses
are just for the bright summer sun,
but damaging ultraviolet (UV)
rays are present year-round, says
Dr. Jenna Lewis, an optometrist
with VSP Vision Care, the larg-
est not-for-proft vision benefts
company in the United States. In
fact, the sun sits lower in the sky
during winter, providing more
exposure.
While Americans are pretty
good about wearing sunglasses in
summer, most tend to ignore the
suns harmful effects in the win-
ter months. But UV rays are dan-
gerous all year. Snow is refective,
and up to 85 percent of the suns
UV rays are refected back up into
the eyes.
Those UV rays damage eyes
the same way they damage skin,
and can cause cataracts, macu-
lar degeneration and cancerous
growths both inside and around
the eyes, all of which can cause
blindness.
However, much of the dam-
age the sun causes can be pre-
vented simply by wearing sun-
glasses that block 100 percent of
UV rays.
Start Young
UV damage is cumulative over
time and doesnt heal, so start
protecting your eyes from the sun
now. That includes making sure
children are outftted with sun-
glasses and protecting eyes of all
ages from the sun all year.
Most UV damage occurs be-
fore age 18, but less than 30 per-
cent of children wear sunglasses.
In the winter, parents arent
slathering their kids with sun-
screen, and are instead bundling
them up with coats and scarves,
says Dr. Lewis. So sunglasses
arent intuitively top of mind, but
they should be.
Check The Label
Make sure your sunglasses
are 99-100 percent UV-rated.
Tinted sunglasses wont provide
UV protection unless they have a
UV rating on the label. Wearing
tinted glasses that are not actu-
ally protective allow the pupils to
dilate, which lets more radiation
in the eyes than wearing no sun-
glasses at all.
Also, the more coverage the
frame provides, the more protec-
tion you will receive. You may
also want to get polarized lenses,
which cut down on glare, if you
live in a snowy area or by water.
When the sun is shining on
the snow, its almost impossible
to see, let alone drive without
sunglasses, cautions Dr. Lewis.
And thats a real safety hazard.
Be Functional in Style
Different color lenses work
better for different conditions.
For example, yellow lenses are
great for skiing since they flter
out blue light that can make fo-
cusing diffcult. Green lenses are
great for general outdoor use, and
brown/amber lenses enhance
depth perception, making them
good for driving and sports. You
can learn more at www.vsp.com.
Or see your local eye doctor, who
can help you fnd the right shades
for your needs -- particularly if
you prefer the convenience of
prescription lenses.
Just remember as youre bun-
dling up this winter to make sure
your eyes dont go naked!
Protect your eyes from the winter sun

ton, who lived in the State of Washington,
to come back to Sand Lake and help him. It
just so happened that Harriet Eaton was a
home missionary.
Shortly after her arrival in Sand Lake, in
the summer of 1942, Frank Allen and Har-
riet Eaton attended the Old Settlers picnic in
town. When the time came for regulars and
visitors to speak a few words, Sister Eaton
arose and openly proclaimed, I left this place
a sinner and have returned a child of God!
After the gathering, the frst one to seek out
Harriet Eaton was her old-time friend, Vita
Giddings Davies. They two were close friends
from then on.
When Sunday came, Frank Allen and
Harriet Eaton attended the only regular Prot-
estant church in town. They sat near the back
of the building. When the pastor preached to
her liking, Sister Eaton would say, Amen!
Quite a few heads turned to see who new in
church.
After the service, some young people asked
her if she would come and speak for the youth
group. She said she would and also bring her
guitar. We were delighted, and told her so.
She said, Come and see me. We agreed to
do so. Then she asked, When? This is the
way the Tuesday evening meetings began in
Frank Allens home. She started us right off
studying the Book of Genesis. The blessed
word of God began to open to us. We learned
how to pray. She ministered to us the whole
counsel of God.
Since we were told we could bring our
friends, that is what we did. During that very
snowy winter, a good number of teenagers
and some older women made their way to the
Allen home on a regular basis.
We were still attending the other church
and did so for quite some time. Later meet-
ings were held in various homes in the area.
Eventually the break came with the other
church. Those of us who were studying under
Sister Eatons capable ministry were passing
on things we had learned from her. All this
time we were teaching Sunday School classes
in the church where we had been attending.
Finally the pastor had to tell us to make a
choice. Then the new gathering drew more
people together.
As the group increased in size, the Lord
allowed us to rent the local Grange Hall
building for our Sunday night meetings. That
only made us eager to have our own build-
ing. We wanted one that would be used only
for the Glory of God. The search began 1.5
lots were purchased from Charles and Maude
Williams on East Lake Street in the village of
Sand Lake.
Local school districts were consolidating
with the village schools. The smaller, rural
buildings were being sold for homes or busi-
nesses. Some were being tom down, others
were being moved. A building was found near
Entrican, some 30 miles northeast from Sand
Lake. It was called the Cherry Dell School, so
named because it sat in a grove of black cher-
ry trees. The building was 24 x 40 ft. and in
sound condition.
The Cherry School Dell school building
was built in 1882. It continued to be in use
until this country school became consolidat-
ed with a larger school in the nearby village.
There were an average of 35 or 40 pupils each
year. Many social events as well as things
pertaining to the school itself were held each
year.
After much research and prayer, this for-
mer school building was purchased in 1946.
Sister Eaton had gone back to the state of
Washington to live with her son and grand-
son. Evelyn Rush, who had come for a two-
week visit with Harriet Eaton in 1944 stayed
on to help in the gospel work and later be-
came the pastor of the Sand Lake church
group. Verta Kibbe was her assistant. Mr.
John Hardy, a local carpenter, was hired to
help get the structure ready to move, to lay
the foundation on the new cite, as well as tak-
ing care of details later. He was ably assisted
by men of the church. Finally the time came
for the actual moving of the building. Since
it was a good-sized edifce, and the distance
considerable, this wasnt completed in a day.
The route had to be carefully mapped, as of-
ten narrow bridges prevented going a certain
way.
Then there was the hindrance of telephone
and electric wires. The building was too tall to
pass under many of these, so lines had to be
cut. At one time, this necessitated going a few
miles at midnight, when the current as less
likely to be needed.
All in all it was a welcome sight to the in-
terested parties to see the awaited building
moving south on old Highway 131 and into
the village of Sand Lake. The building had to
be completely re-plastered and a new chim-
ney built. The frst service was held in the
building on Dec. 31, 1946.
Through the years, there have been dif-
ferent improvements made to the building.
A basement was dug out, and a furnace in-
stalled. The entry was changed from the front
to the side, a west wing added, bathrooms
installed, a cement ramp poured, classrooms
added, upstairs and in the basement, and new
windows purchased.
The building has changed, and many of
the original group of believers have moved
away or relocated. Many have died in faith.
New ones have come in and have taken their
place in the meetings. The message preached
when the group started has not changed.
The Church of the Full Gospel has several
meetings a week, J-0-Y childrens meetings
during the school year, Daily Vacation Bible
School, and a youth camp in the summer
since 1979. Three-day Labor Day Fellowship
meetings, as well as the end-of-year anniver-
sary gathering on New Years Eve. We also
have the gospel
meetings at the Cedar Springs Metron
nursing home twice a month.
At this time Verta (Kibbe) Giddings, and
Gary Giddings are pastoring the meeting.
There are capable elders and deacons, wor-
ship leaders, and teachers.
The schedule of meetings are Sunday
School, Sunday 10 a.m. followed by worship
service at 11 a.m., Sunday evening at 6 p.m.,
J-0-Y meetings for children, during the school
year, and Bible Study, on Wednesday 7 p.m.

We are all faces of
influenza and are recom-
mended by public health
officials to get vaccinated
this and every year, said
Norman H. Edelman, M.D.,
chief medical officer of the
American Lung Association.
Its not too late for family
members of all generations
to help protect themselves
from this potentially deadly
disease through immuniza-
tion.
About Influenza
Influenza is a serious
respiratory illness that kills
thousands annually in the
u.S. and hospitalizes even
more.
The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention
(CDC) recommends vaccina-
tion for everyone 6 months
of age and older. Groups at
higher risk of developing
influenza-related compli-
cations include: adults 50
years of age and older; chil-
dren 6 months to 18 years
of age; pregnant women;
anyone with chronic health
conditions, such as asthma,
chronic obstructive pulmo-
nary disease (COPD), heart
disease and diabetes; and
residents of long-term care
facilities. The CDC also rec-
ommends a yearly vaccina-
tion for those who come into
close contact with high-risk
groups, such as household
contacts, caregivers and
health care providers.

$100,000.00 at stake. Following a trial in a 2011
case, the Oakland County Probate Courts order
for distributing a one hundred thousand dollar
($100,000.00) insurance policy award was ap-
pealed. Ms. J. Robinson had been killed in a two
car collision in 2009. The other driver, Ms. Dancy,
had been at fault. Ms. Robinsons mother, Judith
Parent, had sued the owner of the vehicle for the
wrongful, negligent death of her daughter, on behalf
of Ms. Robinsons four children. The owner carried
$100,000 in vehicle insurance. The trial judge
awarded all of it.
The players. Ms. Robinson had birthed four
children. Two of them, Jacob and Alexander, were
adults when Ms. Robinson was killed. Ms. Robin-
sons other two children, Keith and Bruce, were still
minors at the time she died. However they had been
legally adopted by Ms. Robinsons mother, Judith
Parent, before Ms. Robinsons death. She sued as
their representative.
Their relationship. Judith had not seen Jacob and
Alexander for many years. She had taken it upon her-
self to le suit to look out primarily for the youngest
children, Keith and Bruce. But barely a month after
Judith led suit Jacob showed up with an attorney.
After some confusion about who should really be
the executor of the estate, they agreed Jacob would
be substituted for Judith as the executor/personal
representative bringing the suit, and Jacobs lawyer
would be substituted for Judiths lawyer as ofcial
attorney for the estate. When the Court decided to
distribute the money as proposed by Jacobs lawyer,
Judith appealed.
The children were not close. At the trial Jacob
had contended that his mother had a long history of
substance abuse, including crack cocaine addiction,
which had led to termination of her parental rights
to her two youngest children, and that she had not
continued to parent them actively. However Judith
claimed that although Jacob may not have known
his mother much, Keith and Bruce had continued
to be close to her. She said neither adult child
had showed up for their mothers funeral and that
neither had had contact with her for years. On the
other hand, she stated Keith and Bruce had daily
contact with their mother for years before her death
and had continued to call her mom even after the
adoption. But no other witnesses were called to tes-
tify. The appeals court believed that the truth about
this contradiction was crucial to deciding how to
distribute the money.
Damages. It isnt a question of need. Wrongful death
damages consider the relationships, and the degree
and type of loss. Spouses and children are the usual,
intended, recipients because of the expected close
relationship between them. But the actual felt loss
is important. Should we give money to kids who
havent seen their mother in fteen years? How
great was their grief? Should the money make up
for how their mother had treated them? Or will her
little children, who see her regularly, play with her,
show her love and feel love from her, feel a greater
loss?
The Appeals court said the lower court should have
held a full hearing. It stated: there was no factual
record on which the trial court could have based an
assessment of the fairness and equitability of the
distribution considering the relative damages suf-
fered by each of the relevant persons and an
independent appellate assessment of the fairness
and equitability of the distribution is impossible
without an evidentiary record. It sent the case back
to the trial court for a full hearing.
The outcome. Judith Parent had wanted more
money for the minor children, and less for the adult
children. She was probably happy to have the award
be reconsidered by the trial court. But she may have
lost anyway because Keith and Bruce werent Ms.
Robinsons children. They were her brothers. Won-
der if that made a difference?

ton, who lived in the State of Washington,
to come back to Sand Lake and help him. It
just so happened that Harriet Eaton was a
home missionary.
Shortly after her arrival in Sand Lake, in
the summer of 1942, Frank Allen and Har-
riet Eaton attended the Old Settlers picnic in
town. When the time came for regulars and
visitors to speak a few words, Sister Eaton
arose and openly proclaimed, I left this place
a sinner and have returned a child of God!
After the gathering, the frst one to seek out
Harriet Eaton was her old-time friend, Vita
Giddings Davies. They two were close friends
from then on.
When Sunday came, Frank Allen and
Harriet Eaton attended the only regular Prot-
estant church in town. They sat near the back
of the building. When the pastor preached to
her liking, Sister Eaton would say, Amen!
Quite a few heads turned to see who new in
church.
After the service, some young people asked
her if she would come and speak for the youth
group. She said she would and also bring her
guitar. We were delighted, and told her so.
She said, Come and see me. We agreed to
do so. Then she asked, When? This is the
way the Tuesday evening meetings began in
Frank Allens home. She started us right off
studying the Book of Genesis. The blessed
word of God began to open to us. We learned
how to pray. She ministered to us the whole
counsel of God.
Since we were told we could bring our
friends, that is what we did. During that very
snowy winter, a good number of teenagers
and some older women made their way to the
Allen home on a regular basis.
We were still attending the other church
and did so for quite some time. Later meet-
ings were held in various homes in the area.
Eventually the break came with the other
church. Those of us who were studying under
Sister Eatons capable ministry were passing
on things we had learned from her. All this
time we were teaching Sunday School classes
in the church where we had been attending.
Finally the pastor had to tell us to make a
choice. Then the new gathering drew more
people together.
As the group increased in size, the Lord
allowed us to rent the local Grange Hall
building for our Sunday night meetings. That
only made us eager to have our own build-
ing. We wanted one that would be used only
for the Glory of God. The search began 1.5
lots were purchased from Charles and Maude
Williams on East Lake Street in the village of
Sand Lake.
Local school districts were consolidating
with the village schools. The smaller, rural
buildings were being sold for homes or busi-
nesses. Some were being tom down, others
were being moved. A building was found near
Entrican, some 30 miles northeast from Sand
Lake. It was called the Cherry Dell School, so
named because it sat in a grove of black cher-
ry trees. The building was 24 x 40 ft. and in
sound condition.
The Cherry School Dell school building
was built in 1882. It continued to be in use
until this country school became consolidat-
ed with a larger school in the nearby village.
There were an average of 35 or 40 pupils each
year. Many social events as well as things
pertaining to the school itself were held each
year.
After much research and prayer, this for-
mer school building was purchased in 1946.
Sister Eaton had gone back to the state of
Washington to live with her son and grand-
son. Evelyn Rush, who had come for a two-
week visit with Harriet Eaton in 1944 stayed
on to help in the gospel work and later be-
came the pastor of the Sand Lake church
group. Verta Kibbe was her assistant. Mr.
John Hardy, a local carpenter, was hired to
help get the structure ready to move, to lay
the foundation on the new cite, as well as tak-
ing care of details later. He was ably assisted
by men of the church. Finally the time came
for the actual moving of the building. Since
it was a good-sized edifce, and the distance
considerable, this wasnt completed in a day.
The route had to be carefully mapped, as of-
ten narrow bridges prevented going a certain
way.
Then there was the hindrance of telephone
and electric wires. The building was too tall to
pass under many of these, so lines had to be
cut. At one time, this necessitated going a few
miles at midnight, when the current as less
likely to be needed.
All in all it was a welcome sight to the in-
terested parties to see the awaited building
moving south on old Highway 131 and into
the village of Sand Lake. The building had to
be completely re-plastered and a new chim-
ney built. The frst service was held in the
building on Dec. 31, 1946.
Through the years, there have been dif-
ferent improvements made to the building.
A basement was dug out, and a furnace in-
stalled. The entry was changed from the front
to the side, a west wing added, bathrooms
installed, a cement ramp poured, classrooms
added, upstairs and in the basement, and new
windows purchased.
The building has changed, and many of
the original group of believers have moved
away or relocated. Many have died in faith.
New ones have come in and have taken their
place in the meetings. The message preached
when the group started has not changed.
The Church of the Full Gospel has several
meetings a week, J-0-Y childrens meetings
during the school year, Daily Vacation Bible
School, and a youth camp in the summer
since 1979. Three-day Labor Day Fellowship
meetings, as well as the end-of-year anniver-
sary gathering on New Years Eve. We also
have the gospel
meetings at the Cedar Springs Metron
nursing home twice a month.
At this time Verta (Kibbe) Giddings, and
Gary Giddings are pastoring the meeting.
There are capable elders and deacons, wor-
ship leaders, and teachers.
The schedule of meetings are Sunday
School, Sunday 10 a.m. followed by worship
service at 11 a.m., Sunday evening at 6 p.m.,
J-0-Y meetings for children, during the school
year, and Bible Study, on Wednesday 7 p.m.

About Influenza
Influenza is a serious
respiratory illness that kills
thousands annually in the
u.S. and hospitalizes even
more.
The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention
(CDC) recommends vaccina-
tion for everyone 6 months
of age and older. Groups at
higher risk of developing
influenza-related compli-
cations include: adults 50
years of age and older; chil-
dren 6 months to 18 years
of age; pregnant women;
anyone with chronic health
conditions, such as asthma,
chronic obstructive pulmo-
nary disease (COPD), heart
disease and diabetes; and
residents of long-term care
facilities. The CDC also rec-
ommends a yearly vaccina-
tion for those who come into
close contact with high-risk
groups, such as household
contacts, caregivers and
health care providers.

Grant Library to show modern Christmas Carol ~ This
hilarious take off of the Charles Dickens classic Christmas Carol
nds TV executive Frank Cross in mean spirits. Cross has risen

sadistic sense of humor. This is the behavior that earns Cross his
visits from Christmas past, present and future. Join us at the Grant
Area District Library on Dec. 21st at 12:30 to see this classic tale
and enjoy a light lunch. This program will feature a mini holiday
lunch of ham, baked beans, potato salad, cookies and pudding. All

In Michigan in 2010 there were 55,867
reported car-deer crashes with 11 mo-
torists killed and 1,277 injured. About
80 percent of all car-deer crashes take
place on two-lane roads between dusk
and dawn. (Of the reported car-deer
accidents Kent County is number one
and Montcalm County is number six in
the states highest accident rate).
What can you do?
Stay aware, awake, alert, and sober.
Remember, safety belts are your best
defense in any collision.
Be alert for deer in spring and fall,
especially at dawn and dusk.
Heed deer crossing and speed limit
signs, particularly on two-lane roads.
If a crash is unavoidable:
Dont swerve!
Brake rmly
Hold on to the steering wheel.
Stay in your lane.
Bring your vehicle to a controlled stop.
We at Hills Body Shop have noticed an increase in deer hits in the month of October through December
and a big surge directly after the end of Daylight Savings, because more people are still on the road at
sunset.
If you have had the misfortune of hitting a deer, Hills Body Shop, Inc. is here to help restore your ve-
hicle to its pre-accident condition. Your insurance company may refer you to one of their preferred
repair facilities. These body shops have an agreement with your insurance company to keep down the
cost of your vehicle repair in exchange for referrals. We believe its not in your best interest to take
your vehicle to these contracted repair shops. We believe safety and quality should come before cost,
whereas these preferred shops seem to put cost before quality and safety. We believe it to be unethi-
cal to cheapen your vehicle repair to save your insurance company money. Youre our customer, not
your insurance companys. Hills Body Shop, Inc. has always and will always provide the nest repairs
available.
For more information about what you can do to avoid a car-deer accident and what to do if you do have
a car-deer accident, please visit our website http://www.hillsbodyshop.com/

Chicken Pox and Shingles
This article is revised from a column by Dr. Mercola. By giving vaccines, trying to prevent all children from experiencing
chickenpox naturally, we may have actually created a NEW epidemic not in children but in adults, especially elderly adults.
There is mounting evidence that vaccinating children for chickenpox may very well be causing a shingles epidemic. I am seeing
this in my own practice.
Before the live virus chickenpox vaccine was licensed in the United States in 1995, most children acquired a natural,
long-lasting immunity to chickenpox by age six. For 99.9 percent of healthy children, chickenpox is a mild disease without
complications.
Chickenpox and shingles are related. They are caused by similar viruses; both are in the herpes virus family (these are related
to but cannot become cold sores and genital herpes). After you recover from chickenpox, the virus can remain dormant
(asleep) in your nerve roots for many years, unless it is awakened by some triggering factor such as physical or emotional
stress. When awakened, it presents itself as shingles rather than chickenpox.
Shingles is marked by pain and often a blister-like rash on one side of your body. Other symptoms can include headache
and u-like symptoms. Although very painful, most people who get shingles will recover without serious complications and will
not get it a second time. However, in people with weakened immune systems, shingles complications can be severe. The most
common complication is post herpetic neuralgia, or PHN, where the pain may last for months or even years after the rash has
healed. The pain is caused by damaged nerve bers, which then persist in sending pain messages to your brain.
Nature has devised an elegant plan for protecting you from the shingles virus. After contracting and recovering from
chickenpox (usually as a child), as you age, your natural immunity gets asymptomatically boosted by coming into contact with
infected children, who are recovering from chickenpox. This natural boosting of natural immunity to the varicella (chickenpox)
virus helps protect you from getting shingles later in life.
I n other words, shingles can be prevented by ordinary contact, such as receiving a hug from a
grandchild who is getting or recovering from the chickenpox. But with the advent of the chickenpox
vaccine, there is less chickenpox around to provide that natural immune boost for children AND
adults.
As hard as scientists try to come up with ways to improve human biology, they just cant outsmart
Mother Nature. In trying to tinker with the natural order of things, we tend to destroy processes that
God has masterfully orchestrated to keep us healthy. This dance between chickenpox and shingles is a
perfect example.
If you get shingles there are both traditional and natural treatments that work well. Many parents are
now opting out of the chicken pox vaccine for their children. It is time we think for ourselves and not let
the government and the drug companies dictate our health care. Remember it is not nice to fool with
Mother Nature.
