TradiTion in hands
The brand for hunters and target shooters
The history of the brand ANSCHTZ is a story of reaching
perfection. It starts in the year 1856. Julius Gottfried
Anschtz founded a small gunsmith workshop in the small
German town of Zella-Mehlis. Infuenced by the pionee-
ring spirit of the industrialisation and developed by the
almost inexhaustible entrepreneurial power of the founder
and his sons the company grows to become one of the
leading manufacturers of rifes and pistols in Europe. After
the war the company was closed down, expropriated and
dismantled. The entrepreneurial spirit and the will to be
successful, however, survived all blows of fate. In 1950
the brothers Max and Rudolf Anschtz start anew. At the
other end of Germany in the city of Ulm the company
J. G. ANSCHTZ GmbH is founded and an unrivalled
story of success in the target shooting sport begins. The
overwhelming international top results of ANSCHTZ
marksmen are the basis for the slogan DIE MEISTER
MACHER (champion makers) which is created in 1972
and which is valid until today.
The development of the company goes on. In 1968 the
father Max Anschtz entrusts his son Dieter with the gene-
ral management of the company. He successfully leads
the company into the new millennium supported by his son
Jochen who has been co-president since 1992. Today
more than 150 years of experience are in the hands of the
ANSCHTZ family which they daily invest into the art and
science of modern hunting and target rife manufacture.

aiming aT innovaTion
The leading brand for biathlon rifes.
The success of the brand ANSCHTZ and their precision
products is inseparably connected with this sport. Similar
to an ambitious professional athlete who practises again
and again with a lot of self-discipline to improve his skills,
endurance and power, also the engineers and gunsmiths
of J. G. ANSCHTZ GmbH & Co. KG use all their energy
for the further development and optimisation of their work.
The results of these efforts enjoy an utmost reputation all
around the world. Target shooters and biathletes reached
innumerable shooting successes with ANSCHTZ rifes
and thus made the brand ANSCHTZ known far across
the borders of target shooting. Utmost quality is the claim,
precision is the method. This is applicable for all processes
of development and workmanship and for the application
of ANSCHTZ products in amateur and professional
target shooting. It was thus possible to develop a biathlon
rife with patented Fortner straight pull repeater action
which shortens the time of focussing and lock time
two factors which are of determining importance for the
shooters for all competitions to unequalled values.
Together with a weather-resistant special barrel these
aspects make the ANSCHTZ Fortner biathlon rifes
absolutely singular. And as credibility in sports nowadays
becomes a more and more important factor ANSCHTZ
proudly says that more than 90 % of all biathletes world-
wide shoot an ANSCHTZ rife.
SPEED
Biathlon. In the past few years this former military discipline
experienced an impressing development and today also
under the aspect of media presence and popularity be-
longs to the most popular winter sport disciplines at all. The
hunt on skis or similar transport means is something also the
Vikings appreciated a prove of which can be deducted
from cave drawings in Norway which are 5000 years old.
Also in the Chinese, Russian and Greek history there are
written proves for the use of skis for hunting purposes.
In northern and central Europe hunting on skis becomes
especially popular in military circles. In 1767 the frst com-
petition is carried out between Swedish and Norwegian
border guards in which it was required to fre while skiing.
As a consequence of the industrial manufacture of skis this
development is enforced. In the 20ies and 0ies of the
20th century a military patrol discipline comes up which
at the beginning is a pure team competition and which is
considered the predecessor of modern biathlon. After the
end of the Second World War the sport is demilitarised
and the Swedish general Sven Thofelt suggests the offcial
description biathlon. In 1954 the International Olympic
Committee recognizes biathlon as an independent sports
discipline.
In 1978 the small bore rife replaces the big bore rife
which has been used up to then. The regulations require
that it must be possible to reload offcial competition rifes
manually. Automatic and semi-automatic rifes were not
allowed. This development is the prologue of the story of
success of the ANSCHTZ Fortner biathlon rife, the world-
wide most popular and best selling small bore biathlon rife
of all times.

speed wins
The 1827 ansChTZ Fortner
Modern biathlon demands a combination of capabilities
from the athletes which from a physiological point of view
can be considered as contrary. Skating is a continuous,
impulsive action of all the muscles. During the shooting pro-
cess, however, the biathlete must control and stabilise his
motions to hit the 4.5 cm target in the prone and 11.5 cm
target in the standing position at a distance of 50 m.
Whether a biathlete will be among the frst few ranks is the-
refore often decided at the shooting range. As during the
whole competition speed is a matter of importance here,
too. In comparison to all competitors the ANSCHTZ
Fortner rife offers some decisive advantages.
The patented straight pull repeater action can easily be
operated with the index fnger to open it for reloading.
The action is closed again with the thumb. As the action
is opened and closed axially to the shooting direction it
is almost excluded to loose the optimum stock position at
the shoulder. The biathlete reloads the rife with just one
movement of the wrist. The hand operating the trigger will
remain at the grip and even the elbow does not have to
move, which especially in prone shooting guarantees ut-
most control and stability. The shooter thus only needs little
time for focussing which especially in the course of long
distance competitions and several shooting sequences
pays off. With .5 to 4 ms also the lock time, which is the
time passing between releasing the trigger and the bullet
leaving the muzzle, is extraordinarily short and reached
by no other brand. It makes a high hit rate possible as the
biathlete does not have to hold the rife in position longer
than necessary. And due to the cold-tested barrels made
according to a special ANSCHTZ procedure, the 1827
ANSCHTZ Fortner is unsurpassed in accuracy also at
very cold temperatures.

From the small bore rife to big events
Creativity and innovation have always been important va-
lues in the ANSCHTZ philosophy. This not only is visible
from the market leadership in precision rifes but also from
the awareness for new technologies and market needs.
A result of this entrepreneurial direction is the LaserPower
Biathlon rife. It is not a rife in the sense of frearm regula-
tions and works on the basis of the safe laser technology
class 1. As it is suitable for all age groups it becomes more
and more popular, among others for summer and winter
leisure time competitions. Apart from sports applications
the LaserPower in addition is interesting for business events.
With the delivered targets, remote control, sight set and
software the LaserPower Biathlon offers an eye-catching
and unusual attraction for fairs, incentive measures or other
applications of that kind. With the duel software a direct
competition of two shooters at a time is possible. Whoever
hits the fve targets frst wins.
Be it for professionals, amateurs or businessmen
ANSCHTZ target shooting products keep what they
have promised in a more than 150 years tradition:
Accuracy and the continuous work to reach perfection.
Be inspired.
