ROC L740CR

Takes drilling to the edge

A smart investment

in top performance

The ROC L740CR is the ultimate drill rig for production and pre-split work in open pit mines, quarries and construction sites with high demands on productivity. Thanks to the powerful rock drill COP 4050 it has an extraordinary performance in its hole range and is designed to cope with the most challenging conditions.
Equipped with the unique Atlas Copco cylinder-feed system built into an aluminium box type feed beam, the ROC L740CR delivers a precise and consistent feed force. The aluminium feed beam is structurally much stronger and more resistant to bending and torsional stress than its steel counterpart. Thanks to a rigid drill string and a limited in-hole annual space, excellent hole cleaning is achieved and the risk of getting stuck is minimized. The COPROD method has proven especially suited for fractured formation. Furthermore, the hole inclination and hole depth instruments ensure precise positioning of the feed and a minimum of in-hole deviation, resulting in controlled fragmentation and an overall good drilling and blasting economy.

The ROC L740CR gives you:

Quality blast holes Top performance, independent of rock formations Best drilling and blasting economy Low fuel consumption Long-life drill string High altitude drilling
COP 4050 CR, 40 kW hydraulic rock drill, equipped with dual rotation motors is well suited for specified COPROD dimensions

Long life aluminium box profile hydraulic cylinder feed system with exchangeable snap on stainless steel wear protection

Carousel type handling system of COPROD sections, which are randomly selected. Efficient hydraulic break-outtable for breaking the joints, which also includes guides and a retractable dust collector hood, which contributes to a full view and precise collaring sequence

Full view ROPS and FOPS safety cabin, silenced and vibration damped, fitted with a comfortable operators seat, joy stick drilling control and easy-to-read instrumentation

Dust collector system, which includes a pre-separator and a built in filter unit with an efficient filter cleaning system

Adjustable double centralizer and rod gripper arms ensure minimum wear on drill string threads

Full size canopy doors for easy access to service points

A smart investment in top performance

The ROC L740CR operates with a unique drill string system, COPROD, a powerful hydraulic rock drill, COP 4050CR, and a drive system powered by a Caterpillar stage 3/Tier III engine, which meets all the latest exhaust emission standards. The drill comes with a choice of different feed lengths; with long feed for 6.1 meter COPROD sections or with short feed for 3.6 m sections and toe hole drilling capability. The cylinder feed system with its carousel type tube handling system accommodates COPROD sections with a diameter ranging from 89140 mm, which covers a total hole range of 105180 mm.

Efficient blast hole drilling system

COPROD combines the best of two worlds, the hole quality delivered by the down-the-hole drilling technique and the capacity and fuel efficiency delivered by hydraulic top hammer drills. Add to this a flushing capacity well adapted to hole cleaning with least possible disturbance on the hole walls, and almost any geological formation can be drilled: soft, broken or hard.

Effective transfer of energy

The unique dual string design allows more energy to be transferred to the drill bit through the jointless inner rods. Negative effects on threads and rotation are eliminated, prolonging the life of the inner rods. Since the drill pipes jointing the drill string transmit rotation force only, stress to the pipe threads is minimal, which results in a long service life.

The best choice for high altitude drilling

The COPROD system combines the best of two drilling methods, DTH and tophammer drilling, allowing the ROC L740CR drill rig unrivaled performance at high altitudes. The rock drill is hydraulic and suffers no power loss in thin air, contrary to a compressed air driven rock drill. With the COPROD system, you can choose a large-diameter drill string (up to 140 mm). The hydraulic rock drill combined with the large-diameter drill string ensures the best possible flushing capability even in thin air.

COPROD brings you the best of both worlds

Inside each rigid, threaded pipe section is an impact rod furnished with stop lugs to keep it in place. The COPROD sections are joined together via the drill-pipes. Since the drill-pipes transmit rotation force only, all negative effects due to the transmission of impact energy through the threads are eliminated entirely. The result is high-impact power with minimal wear. Since the outer pipes are smooth and flush along the entire length of the drill-string, it is almost impossible for jamming to occur. The unique design of the COPROD head eliminates the rod guide and reduces air passage in the bit spline area to an absolute minimum. This prevents shank breakage, while the improved airflow reduces plugging of the bit. The drill bit itself is made of a new grade of steel with high impact and fatigue strength. In combination with the systems low air pressure of only 12 bar, less airflow in the annulus results in up to 50 % longer life.

A selection of options on ROC L740CR

For a more comprehensive options list, please contact your local Atlas Copco Customer Center.

With the back camera the rear terrain can be viewed on a cab mounted monitor for increased safety during rear tramming. The same monitor may also be connected to the optional DVD for viewing DVD discs.

The GPS Compass aiming device uses the GPS satellite system and enables you to lock the blast direction for every hole. GPS compass adds a new dimension to the extensive automation already available on ROC L740CR.

Though the risk of getting stuck with a COPROD string is practically non-existent, it could happen. With the Tube extraction device (TED), mounted directly on the drill string, reverse impact ensures the drill string cannot get stuck.

The feed-mounted service winch offers lifting capacity for loading drill tubes into the rod handling system for extended hole depth, or for lifting components for service. The control is conveniently located by the break-out table.
