Knowledge Management is the art of performing knowledge actions such as organizing, blocking, filtering, storing, gathering, sharing, disseminating and using knowledge objects such as data, information, experiences, evaluations, insights, wisdom and initiatives. Knowledge Management = Knowledge Actions x Knowledge Objects It is performance of Knowledge Actions on Knowledge Objects as shown in the above figure. ANALYSIS
The Role of Knowledge Management in Projects at Symbiosys Technologies
According to Mahesh Vudi knowledge management is described as follows . Knowledge Management is managing, interpreting and using any sort of information, skills and abilities, learning etc in a proper way which improves competitiveness, uniqueness and generate profits to the organization. According to the other employees in the Symbiosys technologies the knowledge Management is explained as Contextual, relevant, actionable and it acts more intelligently by performing the knowledge actions by using knowledge objects. Knowledge Management also involves the strategic commitment to improve organizations effectiveness, improves opportunity enhancement and improves the organization ability. According to the other employees in the Symbiosys technologies the knowledge Management is also managing the Knowledge workers technical abilities mainly information technology skills. The knowledge worker in projects needs to develop the following three information based capabilities: Information technology literacy is used for understanding the computers and telecommunications technologies and its application to improve the business performance or as a source to solve the problems and issues. Information technology competency is having necessary skills to apply information technology in projects to meet the information needs and improve performance in the projects.

12

Information literacy is used for understanding and applying information technology. The knowledge workers should be able to find, manipulate, analyze, and interpret the information for the purpose of making better decisions and taking actions. The present client of the Symbiosys Technologies is Google on which they are doing the project. The base knowledge is the product knowledge for the Google. It is nothing but the internal knowledge which is very important.

The Role of Knowledge Management in Project at Symbiosys Technologies is having different phages as follows
There are four different phases in managing knowledge in projects 1. Requirement Phase 2. Design Phase 3. Development Phase 4. Maintenance (or) Installation Phase 1. REQUIREMENT PHASE In this requirement phase there are three different documents to be prepared to start the project. They are User Requirement Specification Document (URS Document) Estimation of Budget (EOP) Functional Specification Document (FSD)

User Requirement Specification Document (URS Document) It is also called as the Software Requirement Specification Document. Here the information related to the user is collected by different levels of employees 1st level information from the Marketing Department 2nd level information from the Project Manager 3rd level information from the Business Analyst

13

4th level information is collected from the Developers if at all the above three level information is not sufficient for the preparation of the URS Document. At the final the URS Document is prepared. Estimation of Budget (EOP) Basing on the above URS Document the estimated budget is prepared and it is given to the client for the agreement between them. If the client agrees upon the EOP then the further action will be preceded by the Symbiosys. Functional Specification Document (FSD) This document explains about what is functionally done in the project to the users to know whether they accept for it or not. 2. DESIGN PHASE This design phase is divided into two. They are Overview Design Detailed Design

Overview Design explains about which module will best suit. It gives the complete information about the Human resource in the project like their pay rolls, leave, new recruits in the project etc. Detailed Design explains about each of the above module clearly and in detail about the personal information. Technical Specification (tech Spec) explains about whether the project technically works or not and explains about its implementation. 3. DEVELOPMENT PHASE OR TESTING PHASE The above codes are tested here by the test cases to know whether it can be achieved or not. All the systems are tested to know the success of the project. Some tools for testing is below Buy Tracking Tool / System Defect Prevention Tool / System

14

4. MAINTENANCE / INSTALLATION PHASE Product Specification is prepared to understand the product and then it goes to the end user. Change Request means any modification done in the middle of the project Feature Request means any new feature is added to the project in the middle. Here the project cycle again starts from the Functional Specification Document preparation.
