A growing number of proponents of the feathered birds are popping up in various cities from coast-to-coast wanting bylaws that allow city folk to keep the chickens in their yards.
A female chicken (egg layer) is called a hen. A male chicken is called a rooster.
IN MINUTES
A bantam is a miniature chicken, usually about 1/4 to 1/2 the size of a regular chicken
Hens generally lay one egg every one to three days, less in the cold, darker winter, more in the sun and warmth.
It takes an egg about 21 days to hatch. Chickens are social animals they should be in a group of at least three. Chickens need feed and water once per day Each chicken needs about two to three feet of space in a coop and four to ve square feet in an outside run.
Roosters do the crowing (quite loudly) starting at six to 10 weeks. Hens don't make much noise; may squawk when they are excited.
Wattles
One rooster will do for every eight to 12 hens if you want to produce fertile eggs.

On the average, three hens will give you two eggs a day. That means to get a dozen eggs a day, you would need 18 hens.
A hen will lay eggs with or without a rooster present. If you want fertilized eggs, then you do need a rooster.
