Nedved's time with Dukla was short however, as he only played one season with the club, before being offered by another Czech giant, Sparta Praha. It's here that Nedved earned a place in the national squad and during his 4 seasons with Sparta, he helped the team win 3 titles and a Cup. Being an essential member of the national squad by now, Pavel Nedved helped the Czech Republic team reach the final stage of the European Championship in 1996 and although they lost the final, the team's great run attracted the interest of many of the top European clubs for Czech
footballers. Lazio Roma was the most persistent in getting Nedved and so they did in 1996, right after Years the Euro.

Nedved's contact with the tough Serie A championship wasn't as big of a shock as it was for other players, mostly because he fit right in, with his enthusiastic, battle-prone playing style. He soon grabbed a first team spot at Lazio, where played most of the games in the 5 seasons with the Roman side. Despite winning two trophies with his new club, namely the Italian Cup in 1998 and the Cup Winners Cup in 1999, Lazio was still a team that couldn't fight for the league or Champions League, so when Juventus made a 41 million euros offer to Lazio for Nedved, neither the club (who had some financial problems), nor the Czech player could refuse.
