Nedved's contact with the tough Serie A championship wasn't as big of a shock as it was for other players, mostly because he fit right in, with his enthusiastic, battle-prone playing style. He soon grabbed a first team spot at Lazio, where played most of the games in the 5 seasons with the Roman side. Despite winning two trophies with his new club, namely the Italian Cup in 1998 and the Cup Winners Cup in 1999, Lazio was still a team that couldn't fight for the league or Champions League, so when Juventus made a 41 million euros offer to Lazio for Nedved, neither the club (who had some financial problems), nor the Czech player could refuse.

Pavel Nedved Biography Juventus Torino

Before Nedved came to Juventus, he was considered a quality midfielder, but no one really thought of him as a super star. For most Italians, he was just another foreigner playing for a midtable team like Lazio was at that time. His move to Juventus and his first seasons there certified the fact that he is indeed a quality player, but even more, the move established him as an international star. In 2003, Nedved was on top of his game and he helped Juventus reach the Champions League final, but he couldn't play the final himself, since he got one too many yellow cards in the second semi-final leg. The moment when Nedved takes the yellow card and realizes that he will miss the final was caught on tape and is an emotional and memorable footage. Although Juventus lost the final, Nedved was crowned European Footballer of the Year and he was also in the run for World Footballer of the Year. After the 2005-2006 Serie A match fixing scandals, Juventus got relegated to the second division and Nedved, along with other Juve long-timers such as Del Piero or Gianluigi Buffon, agreed to stay with the club even during these hard times and managed to bring Juventus back in the first league the following season. For his loyalty to the club and for his commitment to winning every match through a fight, he is considered a legendary player in the Czech Republic and at Torino.
