We the students of sacred heart have brought something exciting new which has not yet been implemented

in India. By reading the head you may think of simple dams such as the hirakud dam on river Mahanadi but they are some thing exciting new creation of ours.

WHAT ARE FLOODS ?

Heavy storms may sometimes causehuge volumes of water to depart from rivers natural source and spread over the previously dry land .unstoppable and all pervasive ,the resulting floods can be devastating to human life.

CAUSES OF FLOODS
Floods are caused by heavy rains that pour to much water into rivers and other waterways making these natural channels unable to carry all the water . rising water flows over or breaks the banks to the waterways causing surrounding land to be flooded . In india permanent dams cannot be constructed because ytheir main disadvantage is that they do not allow the ships to pass through them . So we have thought of a great solution to such a problem that is the construction of hydraulic dams base d on a great physicist s law blaise pascal. The law is the pascal s law .

PASCALS LAW
pressure created anywhere to a body of fluid causes a force to be transmitted equally in all direction ; the force acts at 90 to any surface in contact with the fluid .

APPLICATIONS OF HYDRAULICS
The hydraulic press The hydraulic crane. Even the London bridge on river thames is based on the same law .

WORKING OF OUR MODEL

Since we are presenting our model on a very large scaleso we have modified the circular shockers to / in syringes for easier understanding. in our model we have taken 2 syringes of 5ml and 10 ml on each side. The distance between them is connected by tourniquet used in the first aid box. When the 5ml syringe passes its water to the 10ml syrINGES with great pressure the big syringes exert pressure on both the

gates and both the gates come closer and over lap each other preventing the great flow of flood water. This will not harm the houses and the industries which are created closer to the river banks.

WHERE CAN IT BE APPLIED IN INDIA?

It can be applied in india basically on places like Chennai which is greatly affected by flood water and is also a major sea port.

ADVANTAGES OVER PERMANENT DAMS

1. The encourage shipping trade along with the prevention of floods which permanent dams can t do ............... 2. Since they are overlapping so there will be no deposition of silt which further does not harm the aquatic life. 3. There base pillars when constructed are not so deep so they do not move the earth s tectonic plates which is unlike Tehri dam , narmada dam and other permanent dams. 4. These are in favour of many revolutionist who are against the construction of permanent dams such as medha patkar.

MATERIALS USED
1. Thermocol and cardboard. 2. 2 big syringes of 10 ml each and 2 small syringes of 5ml each. 3. Ships (handmade) 4. Pop for the demo. Of land. 5. Ivory sheet for the demonstration of buildings. 6. toy cars to show the scenetic view of the vehicles which are standing in the parking lot.
