Features Consistent positive action Robust design for a long, reliable, service life Description Type AR relays are a range of electro-mechanical relays with up to 8 contacts and complying to BS142. They can be supplied in most combinations of contact, flag and reset arrangements and with a fixed time delay. Heavy duty contacts are available on most models. The relays are identified by a series of numbers and letters which define important relay features as follows:
First digit Second digit Type of flag Third digit Type of contact reset 1 2 3 4 6 Self reset Hand reset Electrical & hand Hand & self Electrical reset
Number of 0 No flag identical 1 Hand reset flag elements 2 Hand reset reverse 3 acting Self reset flag 4 Self reset reverse acting
Suffix letters are used to identify further features: Suffix D - indicates a relay fitted with a suppression diode across the coil to reduce the effects of the back emf which occurs on switch-off. Suffix SB - identifies a relay with a series break contact to cut-off the operating coil, thus the relay burden becomes zero after operation of this contact. Only available with AR relays which have hand reset contacts.

DDB20
Application
The DDB20 time delay relay is particularly suitable for use in protection & control schemes where precision time delays are required. CB FAIL A typical use is for providing a definite time delay in circuit breaker failure protection. For example: The transformer multi-trip relays energize the DDB20 timer & if the circuit breaker (CB) fails to clear the fault within the pre-set (0.6s) the timer times out & operates a multi-trip relay. This in turn trips all CBs on the section of the busbar connected to the CB, which has failed to trip. INDUCTION DISC RESET EMULATION Replacement of induction disc timing elements with solid-state relays can result in a loss of grading & reduced functionality due to the different reset characteristics. For example, the inherent slow reset time of induction disc relays provide an advantage in sensitive overcurrent schemes where pecking faults could go undetected due to the timer being instantaneously reset each time the current momentarily falls bellow the start setting. The DDB20 may be specified with a number of reset functions to avoid this problem & to suit specific protection applications.
Operation
Made in Australia
A crystal oscillator & embedded micro controller based timing circuit are employed to provide accurate timing & flexible functionality. When a control signal is applied to the timer initiate input, the down counter begins counting down from the thumb wheel switch setting. When the zero is detected, the output relay & flag changes state & the down counter stops. Three time ranges are selected via a front panel switch. A second function switch sets the timer to operate in time delay ON mode (Relay starts timing after the initiate control signal is applied & output contact picks up after the pre-set time delay has elapsed) or in time delay OFF mode (Relay output contact picks up instantaneously when the initiate control signal is applied, starts timing after the initiate control signal is removed & drops out after the pre-set time delay has elapsed). An LED on the front panel indicates when the relay has been initiated & flashes during timing. The DDB20 timer may be specified with a number of different reset functions to provide instantaneous reset, definite time reset or induction dist reset emulation. These functions are specified at time of order & are factory programmed. A switchmode power supply provides a very wide auxiliary operating range. A relay fail alarm is provided in the form of a C/O contact which is picked up when the auxiliary supply is healthy.
Timing Functions
TIMING FUNCTION / INITIATE SIGNAL INPUT (Status input ) For accurate timing functions the DDB20 detects application or removal of a DC control signal. Two modes of operation are possible: Delay operate mode The relay is permanently connected to the auxiliary supply and is initiated by the application of a control signal. Application of the initiate signal (10ms minimum pulse length), starts the pre set timing cycle. During timing the front panel initiate LED will flash & then go on solid once the thumbwheel time setting has elapsed, this sets the output relay and visual indicator. The initiate LED is extinguished & the output contacts reset when the initiate signal is removed. The visual indicator may then be reset locally by the push button or remotely via the flag reset input. To achieve a simple but less accurate delay ON function, the initiate signal may be connected directly to the auxiliary supply. Timing will then commence when power is applied to the relay while removal of power will reset the time delay & output relay. This mode is only suitable for longer time delay settings as the switch mode power supply takes 100 500ms (Depending on Vx), to start which adds to the inherent time delay. Delay release mode The relay is permanently connected to the auxiliary supply. Application of the initiate control signal (10ms minimum pulse length), causes the output relay to set instantaneously (Rset). It will remain in this state until the control signal is removed, this starts the timing cycle & resets the output relay when the preset time delay is reached. The visual indicator is reset locally by the push button or remotely via the flag reset input. TIMING RESET OPTIONS Instantaneous If the initiate signal drops out before the preset time delay is reached the timing element will reset in 20 to 50 ms at 10X Is. Definite Time Reset (Treset) With this reset option a definite reset time must be specified. If the initiate signal drops out before the preset time delay is reached the delay timer will pause until the reset time has elapsed before resetting. If the initiate signal picks up again before the reset time has elapsed, the delay timer will restart the timing sequence from the paused timing point. Count Down Reset If the initiate signal drops out before the preset time delay is reached, the timer will count down toward reset. If initiate signal picks up again before reset is reached the timer will start counting back up towards the time delay pre set. RESET FUNCTION DIAGRAM

AUXILIARY SUPPLY 40-300V DC / 40-275V AC or 20 - 70V DC switchmode supply. BURDEN (110V DC nominal supply) Less than 2 watts during idle & timing. Less than 4 watts when output relays are energized. FAIL ALARM CONTACT 1 C/O contact (Picked up when auxiliary supply is healthy) OPERATION INDICATOR The standard relay has a hand & remote reset magnetic disc flag (permanent memory) indicator fitted to give visual indication that the output relay element has operated. Note that an auxiliary supply is required to reset the flag circuitry. TIME SETTING RANGES The DDB20 relays allow for precision time settings of between zero (Minimum operate time) & 99 seconds. This is achieved by the use of 2 decimal thumb wheel switches & a range multiplication switch on the front panel. Range Selector Setting Range 1 Range 2 Range 3 Achievable Time Setting Range Zero to 0.99 Sec Zero to 9.9 Sec Zero to 99 Sec Resolution of Time Setting 0.01 Sec 0.1 Sec 1 Sec
WHEN SHOULD THE DELAY SET POINTS BE CHANGED? The time delay & function settings should only be changed when the timing initiate LED is extinguished. Changes made when the initiate signal is applied will only become effective once the initiate signal is removed. MINIMUM OPERATE TIME Time delay settings to the following minimum operate times will result in relay operate times equal to these minimums. Opto Type Status Inputs 25ms Relay Type Status Inputs 50ms TIMING ACCURACY (Setting & repeat accuracy) The timing accuracy is a combination of three factors: 1. Initiate time delay Opto type status inputs: +1ms Relay type status input: +5ms 2. Relay timing error <1.25ms 3. Output relay delay +5ms The Idec relay type status input and relay outputs add electro mechanical delays of 20ms +5ms. The pre set time delay is compensated by the nominal 20ms delays introduced by these relays to improve accuracy. Maximum timing error is therefore: Opto type status inputs: Relay type status input: < 7.25ms <11.25ms

Features Low burden Versatile design, can provide pre-close supervision Consistent positive action Application Supervision of the trip circuit of a circuit breaker is desirable as a means of ensuring the integrity of the trip circuit. There are differing requirements for monitoring a trip circuit, supervision of the trip circuit with the circuit breaker closed, supervision with the circuit breaker open and closed and preclosing supervision. These XR relays are designed to meet all of these requirements and in particular the requirements of BEBS S15 schemes H4 and H7. Model range XR151 and XR152 Trip supply supervision (see separate factsheet) XR250 and XR251 Circuit breaker closed supervision. Will initiate an alarm and provide indication with the circuit breaker closed for: Failure of the trip supply, open circuit trip coil, an open circuit in the trip circuit wiring and if the trip coil should fail to respond to a trip command. XR350 and XR351 Continuous supervision with the circuit breaker in the open and closed positions and in compliance with the scheme requirements of BEBS S15 scheme H7. XR350 & 351 relays also have a contact for pre-closing supervision, where a circuit breaker is prevented from being closed if trip relays have not been reset. BEBS S15 scheme H7 is applicable to trip circuit voltages of 125Vd.c. and 240Vd.c. Description Type XR relays are developments for specific applications of the type AR relay range. They are electro-mechanical relays with a consistent positive action, a long service life and complying with the appropriate requirements of IEC 255 and BS142. Models XR250/251 have two attracted armature elements, XR350/351 have three. These relays incorporate a time delay on deenergisation to keep the relay in an operated condition during temporary reductions in the battery voltage.

OPERATION
The relay will detect ferro-resonance, with the system energised or de-energised, as follows: On system de-energisation, the secondary voltage falls below the reset level, and all 3 elements dropoff. In the event of ferro-resonance occurring two out of three elements will remain energised. If ferro-resonance is induced onto a de-energised system the relay will only respond if the amplitude of ferro-resonance is above the relay element pick-up level 40V a.c. Relay contacts are wired to initiate a type DDB timer, which in turn will initiate the alarm. Settings Pick-up not greater than 40V a.c. 50Hz Drop-off not less than 25V a.c. 50Hz Relay operation is checked down to 16.67Hz Burden Contacts Approximately 3VA per element See Fig.1

DESCRIPTION
This relay provides a ferro-resonance alarm as required by NGTS 3.15.2 scheme F1. Under normal healthy conditions, with the system energised or de-energised, all the relay elements will be in unison and either operated or un-operated. The three attracted armature relays are connected phase-to-phase via full wave rectifiers.

Technical bulletin
2V68
Application
The 2V68 is a three phase monitoring device designed to provide continuous supervision of the buswires in high impedance type buswire protection schemes. The relay will detect open circuited buswires as well as open circuited main current transformers. The relay provides three (3) latching N/O alarm output contacts to signal faults. Three (3) additional N/O latching output contacts are provided for an integral buswire CT shorting facility. 2V68 depicted in a 4M28 case
Operation
Made in Australia
The 2V68 type relays have a setting range of 2-14V adjusted on a per phase basis from calibrated potentiometers at the front panel. The relay is continuously rated at 300V RMS & no external components are required. Isolation from the main CTs is achieved by using a transformer whose primary winding is connected in series with a high value and power rated resistor. The secondary output signal from this isolating transformer is fed into a current to voltage converter, then rectified for comparison with the front panel pre-set value. The AC input is continuously monitored & when it exceeds the pre-set level. Latching contacts are actuated after a three (3) second time delay. Three (3) latching contacts are intended to be connected across the buswires of the busbar protection thus short-circuiting the busbar protection relay & rendering the protection of the zone concerned inoperative. The remaining three (3) latching contacts are available for alarm & signaling functions. Operation of the relay is indicated by a hand reset flag. A switchmode power supply provides a very wide auxiliary operating range. A relay fail alarm is provided in the form of a C/O contact which is picked up when the auxiliary supply is healthy.

Features Low burden 3 pole, Phase segregated inputs High speed pick-up and drop-off Low overshoot Modular design Wide range of settings Instantaneous or time delayed
Description Type 2DAB relay meets the requirements for current check relaying in a circuit breaker fail scheme or may be used to monitor current flow prior to sequence switching; e.g. mesh corner schemes. The 2DAB current check relay detects the circuit breaker failure to trip and to ensure discrimination has a fast reset time and a minimum overshoot time. Each pole of the relay is phase segregated and operates independently via its level detector and interface area. The provision of the interface area allows for the factory fitting of output relays to the customer's requirements. With this flexibility the interface area relays can be manufactured with up to 9 change- over contacts, connected as phase segregated groups of three, or as three phase outputs. The standard arrangement is with 4 normally open output contacts. Each level detector initiates a time delay, set by the user, which delays operation of the output relay. This can be set to zero for instantaneous operation.
Technical information Rating (IN) IA/5A, 50/60Hz, 3 pole Setting ranges Current 25mA to 4.8A in 25mA steps or 50mA to 9.6A in 50mA steps. A 5A relay can be used with IA CTs to give a range of 2.5mA to 480mA in 2.5mA steps. Time 2ms to 510ms in 2ms steps and 4ms to 1.02s in 4ms steps.

Cases Modular cases: Single pole, no metering point: Three pole, no metering point: Vedette cases: Single pole, no metering point: Single pole, with metering point: Three pole, no metering point: Three pole, with metering point: Current transformer requirements Experience has shown that most protective current transformers are suitable for use with this protection. The overall size may in fact be smaller than that required for an alternative current balance protection using say a biased relay. The basic requirements are: 1. All the current transformers should have identical turns ratios. 2. The knee point voltage of the current transformers should be at least twice the relay setting voltage. The knee point voltage is expressed as the voltage applied to the secondary circuit of a current transformer which when increased by 10% causes the magnetising current to increase by 50%. 3. The current transformers should be of the low leakage reactance type. Generally most modern current transformers are of this type and there should be no difficulty in meeting this requirement. Low leakage reactance current transformers have a jointless core with the secondary winding evenly distributed along the whole length of the magnetic circuit, and the primary conductor passes through the centre of the core. Class "X" current transformers to BS 3938 can be specified to meet the above requirements and are recommended. Size 3 Size 6 Size 2/3V Size 2/3V Size 1V Size 2V
Application High impedance busbar protection, circulating current protection and auto transformer protection. Description The type B3 relay is a rectifier fed type B element with sensitive current setting and low operating burdens. External resistors are used to give the relay a voltage setting. A metrosil is fitted internally across the rectifier, however an external metrosil may also be required. Metrosils are non-linear resistors used to protect the relay components, the insulation of secondary wiring and current transformers, by suppressing high voltage peaks which may otherwise be developed by the virtually unloaded current transformer secondary winding under internal fault conditions. Protection application Where significant capacitance is included in the protected zone (e.g. in the case of restricted earth fault or a delta winding at the remote end of a feeder) sensitive settings may only be used in the conjunction with a high frequency filter. For such applications relay types 4B3, 5B3 or DAE should be used. Significant capacitance is defined by comparison of the primary current setting with three times the in-zone capacitance current or nine times the in-zone capacitance current, per phase, for solid or resistance earthed systems respectively.

Application An undervoltage relay with a repeat relay having changeover contacts for voltage changeover or voltage selection. Description Type B6 relays can be supplied with a combination of a.c. voltage measuring and d.c. elements to meet various voltage switching requirements. 1. 2. 3. 1a.c. & 1d.c. 2a.c. & 1d.c. 2a.c. & 2d.c. Single phase arrangement Three phase arrangement Vedette case only, 8 contacts
Under healthy system conditions the a.c. element, or elements, are energised and their respective contacts are held closed. The closed contacts complete the circuit to the rectifier thus keeping the rectifier fed d.c. element energised. Two contacts wired in parallel are used on the a.c. elements for security. If an undervoltage condition occurs the a.c. elements are de-energised, these in turn de-energise the d.c. repeat element, switching over the external circuits via the changeover contacts. When the supply voltage is restored, and rises above the pick-up value of the a.c. elements, the relay will reset and return the external circuits to their original connection. Application For the tripping of remote circuit breakers in an inter-connected power system where the fault current may be fed from more than one source. Following fault detection and operation of the local circuit breaker, a d.c. trip signal is transmitted via pilot cables to the BD intertrip receive relay. These trip the remote circuit breaker in order to completely isolate the fault. Very high voltages may be induced in the pilots, especially during heavy fault conditions, and the relay must remain inoperative to all but the correct trip signal. The BD relay caters for transverse voltages up to 5kV rms and longitudinal voltages of up to 5kV or 15kV. Its operating time is unaffected by induced voltages which may be present at the time of applying the intertrip signal. Any type of pilot cable can be used, but the maximum loop resistance should not exceed 1,000 ohms. Description There are two component units, the relay and the filter unit. The filter unit contains inductors, capacitors, and setting resistors encapsulated in a thermo-setting resin. The relay comprises a moving coil element insulated for either 5kV or 15kV, and an attracted armature repeat relay with a hand reset flag. Limiting devices are connected across the moving coil to by-pass the initial and final peak switching surges. Multi-ended intertripping schemes Multi-ended intertripping schemes often occur in practice and type BD surge proof relays are suitable for such applications. In order to achieve optimum performance they should be operated as near as is reasonably possible to their design parameters. To obtain this two main requirements should be fulfilled. A.C. Requirements These surge proof relays have been designed to remain stable with induced voltages of up to 5kV in pilot wires having a loop resistance not exceeding approximately 1,000ohms. It is therefore recommended that the loop resistance of the pilots between any two feeder ends, between which induced pilot voltages are expected, should be maintained within the range of 500 to 1,000ohms. When determining the loop resistance the pilots at the remote end are assumed to be short circuited. If the loop resistance obtained is less than 500ohms, the resistor in the filter unit, at the end being considered, may be used to make the effective loop resistance greater than 500ohms.
D.C. Requirements In order to ensure satisfactory operation of the BD relays at all receiving ends, the d.c. currents in each receiving end relay should preferably be equal to or in excess of 12mA. The d.c. resistance of the type BD relays, as seen from the pilots across terminals (P3, R2) is about 3,000ohms. Using this value the minimum d.c. intertrip voltage required at the sending ends can be estimated.

Features High speed of operation Input filter characteristic rejects d.c. offset transients and provides excellent harmonic rejection Integrated open circuit current transformer supervision alarm Low a.c. and d.c. burdens Description The type DAD relay provides high-speed, high impedance, current differential protection with individual open-circuit monitoring of the CT secondary circuits. An advanced design input filter with a harmonic rejection circuit improves overall protection stability by rejecting the harmonics generated by the onset of CT saturation. The relay is provided with four output relays each with two contacts. Three of the relays, those normally associated with the alarm function, can be selected for latched/non-latched contact operation. Application High impedance busbar zone protection and circulating current protection of auto transformers, motors and generators. Transient stability under through fault conditions is a problem with many forms of differential protection due to variations in CT magnetising characteristics. As saturation is approached, the CT output current waveforms become increasingly distorted with a high percentage of 3rd and other higher odd harmonics. These problems can be overcome by either using biased differential protection, or more elegantly by the use of high impedance schemes. In the latter case the relay settings are calculated assuming one CT is completely saturated. Using this worst case condition the voltage and current settings for type DAD high impedance protection can be precisely calculated with known stability margins. Intermediate conditions, where a CT is only partially saturated, increases the stability margin. This approach enables schemes to be engineered using CTs with relatively low knee-point voltages. The DAD relay also incorporates supervision of the CT secondary circuits. This supervision is traditionally provided by a sensitive alarm relay, but this integration of protection, CT supervision and associated timers in the DAD considerably simplifies system design and secondary wiring. Zone switchout relays are recommended to switch out an affected zone.
High impedance busbar protection is recommended for all switchgear applications where faults must be cleared in the shortest possible time. High impedance schemes can provide lower fault settings and a better through-fault stability than possible with most other schemes. The stability of a current balance scheme using a high impedance relay circuit depends upon the relay voltage setting being greater than the maximum voltage which can appear across the relay under a given through fault condition. Stabilising resistors and metrosils complete the scheme. Current transformers Experience has shown that only Class X CTs to BS3938 meet all the basic requirements for this type of protection. For most applications it will be found that the overall size of the CT will be smaller than that required for alternative current balance protections.

Description Solkor-R/Rf is designed to operate over pilot circuits of a standard resistance. This standard operating value is obtained by adding a padding resistance at each feederend relay. This ensures that the protection is always operating under constant conditions of pilot resistance and its performance is therefore independent of this. At each end of the feeder the secondary circuits of 3 current transformers are connected to a summation transformer which provides a single phase quantity for use over the pilot wires. Stability is achieved by current balance using the Solkor operating principle of establishing the electrical centre of the pilot circuit within the relay which has positive polarity. Under healthy conditions, the measuring elements remain in the negative part of the circuit and are thus biased against operation. Solkor-R/Rf provides two-ended tripping for in-zone faults. Where it is necessary to intertrip the remote circuit breaker to clear faults external to the Solkor protective zone, three schemes are available utilising the Solkor relays and pilot wires.
Features High transient stability. High speed operation. Low phase and earth fault settings. Bleed-off up to 20%. Options of 15kV pilot isolation and pilot supervision Application Solkor-R/Rf is a development of the well proven Solkor-R protection which offers improved performance and is suitable for an increased range of pilot wire conditions. It can be selected to operate in either R or Rf mode using internal links. Experience has shown that the majority of medium voltage feeders can be satisfactorily protected by equipment with a pilot to earth insulation level of 5kV. Situations where, due to induction or a rise in substation earth potential, pilot insulation of between 5kV and 15kV is required, this can be met by the Rf mode using a 15kV isolating transformer with the relay at each feeder-end.

Features Continuous supervision of the pilot link. Open circuits and short circuits of pilot wires alarmed. Crossed pilot wires detected. Application This equipment will provide pilot supervision for Solkor-R 5 kV and Solkor-Rf 5kV and 15kV schemes. Description Scheme simplicity is achieved by careful design so that switchingout of the pilot supervision equipment is not necessary. Starting relays are thus avoided and double-end tripping is obtained without infeed being required at the remote end except where guard relays are included in the scheme. The pilot wire information link is vital for the stability of pilot wire feeder protections. Supervision is by the injection of a d.c supply at one (send) end, with a continuously energised, polarised, relay monitoring this supply at the other (receive) end. Thus an open or short circuit, or crossing of the pilot wires will cause the receive relay to be de-energised. The sensitivity and insulation requirements limit the contacts the receive relay can provide, so a repeat relay is used to provide flag indication, contacts for alarm initiation and a delay of approximately 400ms on drop-off to prevent spurious pilot fail alarms during fault conditions. Equipment for 5kV insulated pilots can be supplied in modular or Vedette cases, 15kV components are only available in Vedette cases. Optional supervision supply fail relay Used to provide suitable alarms for failure of the supervision a.c supply. Suitable relays are type AR121 or type B22. Optional guard relays Guard relays can be applied to prevent the protection tripping at below fault levels. Guard relays need to be applied if tripping of the Solkor protection is to be prevented when pilots become open circuit and the normal load current is, or becomes, above 66% of the Solkor three-phase setting, e.g. where there is a large amount of construction work adjacent to the pilot wire route. A suitable relay is the type B69. Guard relays will not affect the speed of operation of the protection because they only act to check the tripping contacts of the Solkor relay and have no effect on the protection measuring circuits. Guard relays may also be arranged to hold the repeat relay
energised during fault conditions and thus prevent a pilot failure alarm for extended through-fault current clearance times. Where 15kV insulated pilots are used some utilities prefer the pilot wiring not to be in the relay panels because of the possibility of high voltages being induced onto them under heavy through-fault conditions. In these instances the Transformer-rectifier unit and the receive relay can be mounted in the pilot termination cubicle; the supply fail and repeat relays may be panel mounted.

Solkor intertripping
Features Multiple use of pilot link Simple to use Injection schemes for decisive intertripping Application Solkor provides double ended tripping for in-zone faults. Use can also be made of the Solkor pilot link, and the remote Solkor relay, to intertrip the remote circuit breaker to clear faults external to the Solkor protective zone, for example to backtrip from a busbar or transformer protection. There are several possible methods available, the choice between them being dependant upon the current available through the protected feeder for the fault conditions which require intertripping. Description 1. Open Circuiting of Pilots - Solkor-R and Solkor-Rf Since Solkor protection is a current balance scheme, fault current intertripping can be effected by open circuiting the pilot loop. The magnitude of the current required through the remote current transformers to cause operation of the relay depends somewhat on the intercore capacitance of the pilot line. For reliable intertripping the minimum fault current through the remote current transformers should not be less than twice the nominal fault setting for each type of fault. 2. DC Injection Intertripping Solkor R may also be intertripped by the direct application of a 110V dc voltage source to the local end of the pilots. This dc may be derived from a 5kV or 15kV isolated intertripping battery or from a secure full wave rectified 110V, 50/60Hz, voltage derived from a 5kV or 15kV isolation transformer. 3. Injection Intertripping - Solkor-R & Solkor-Rf Injection intertripping is used where decisive intertripping is required, irrespective of the current in the protected feeder, and to avoid possible interaction between the injected signal and power frequency voltages. Its use also avoids the requirement for 5 kV or 15 kV insulated intertripping batteries. Injection intertripping is not suitable for use with guard relays (which place normally open contacts in series with the Solkor relay contact) or for Solkor-R with Supervison applied to the same pilots, (for such schemes Supervision may be carried out over spare cores). Because a different inverter is required, Solkor-Rf can use both injection intertripping and supervision over the same pilots.
Inverter Unit The send equipment comprises an inverter and a type TEC relay to switch the a.c. intertripping signal, Solkor-Rf requires an additional time delay relay. The receive relay is the remote Solkor relay. It is unnecessary to continuously energise the inverter, normally a full power signal is sent for 2 secs. followed by either de-energisation of the inverter or by a reduced inverter output which holds the remote relay operated, see Fig, 1. Note applicable to all schemes:Where contacts are directly connected to the pilot wires then 5kV/15kV isolation must be maintained from earth and other circuits. For more details of schemes contact Reyrolle Protection.

DESCRIPTION
The type TEC relay comply with British Generating Board Engineering recommendation M16/2 class EB2. They consist of three elements: (a) (b) (c) Type F relay. Type B34 relay delayed on energisation. Type TCD static timing relay. Sustained lntertrip Within 10ms the intertrip circuits are closed, this condition being maintained for two seconds after the initiating contact opens. The operation of the circuit is similar to that described in the pulse intertrip arrangement, with the exception that contact B2 is used to ensure that the time delay relay is not energised until the type B34 relay is de-energised, i.e. when the initiating contact IC is opened.
MODEL RANGE
Four type TEC relays are available: 5kV insulated contacts for pulse or sustained intertrip. 15kV insulated contacts for pulse or sustained intertrip. 5kV insulated contacts for 2 stage intertrip. 15kV insulated contacts for 2 stage intertrip. Pulse lntertrip The F relay is energised and within 10ms the intertrip contacts are closed. They are then maintained for a period of two seconds. When the initiating contact IC closes, the operating coils of the types F and B relays are both energised, their operating times are 10 and 100ms respectively. The type F relay contacts complete the intertrip circuits and the series contact F1 open circuits the operating coil to prevent battery drain. Contact F2 initiates the time delay relay for the reset operation. The type B34 relay contacts then 'pick-up' opencircuiting the type F relay operating coil, contact B1, to prevent a repeat operation upon reset. After the time delay elapses contact T1 is closed and the type F relay resets.
2 Stage lntertrip Where the intertrip signal applied to the pilots is derived from a DC/AC inverter or DC/DC converter, such devices may be damaged if energised unloaded for long periods. Another small attracted armature element is incorporated in the TEC relay so that the inverter or converter is only energised for 2 seconds in the 'pulse intertrip' scheme, or for the duration of 'sustained intertrip'. For the latter the signal can be held at full level for 2 seconds then reduced to a 'hold on' level provided that the design of inverter or converter permits an economy resistor to be switched into the drive circuit to its output transformer.

VA TECH Transmission and Distribution VA TECH Reyrolle ACP Ltd 2RMLG Operating Recommendations
1. SAFETY
The commissioning and maintenance of protection equipment should only be carried out by skilled personnel trained in protective relay operation and capable of observing all the necessary safety precautions and regulations appropriate to the equipment and also the associated primary plant. Equipment should be isolated from auxiliary supplies and the circuit breaker trip circuit prior to commencing any work. 2. UNPACKING, HANDLING & STORAGE On receipt unpack the equipment and inspect for any obvious damage. It is not normally necessary to remove it from its polythene bag unless some damage is suspected or if it is required for immediate use. If damage has been sustained a claim should immediately be made against the carrier, also inform Reyrolle Protection and the nearest Reyrolle agent. When not immediately required return the equipment to its carton and store in a clean, dry, place. 3. DESCRIPTION The range of 2RMLG Test Blocks, housed within an Epsilon enclosure, offers facilities for monitoring and secondary injection testing of power system protection schemes in conjunction with the MMLB 01 multi-fingered test plug. The MMLB 02 is a single fingered test plug available for monitoring current flow in individual circuits connected through the test block. The 2RMLG Test Block has 14 pairs of spring loaded contacts which are linked to a terminal block positioned at the rear of the enclosure. The 2RMLG07 is coded to only accept the MM2B07 Test Plug which has connection terminals 21, 23, 25 & 27, internally For typical application see Fig 4. The 2RMLG08 is coded to only accept the 2RMLB08 Test Plug which has internal pairs 1&3, 5&7, 9&11 and 15&17 shorted together internally For typical applications see Figs 5, 6, 7 & 8. Each pair of contacts is normally closed completing the circuit through the test block when the associated protection equipment is in use. For testing purposes the test block can be assessed by removing the front cover. The 2RMLG 01 has a metallic probe attached to the front cover assembly which when withdrawn open circuits the 2 contacts at position 13 and 14. The main dc auxiliary supply to the protection scheme or relay can be wired to this circuit to prevent inadvertent tripping of the protection circuit after removal of the cover and during the test procedure. The 2RMLG 02/07/08 do not include the above facility and contacts 13 and 14 are normally closed. These contacts must not be used for current circuits, as the relevant contact finger on the MMLB 01 test plug is shorter in this position. The short test finger in position 13-14 on the MMLB 01 will open contacts 13-14 in the test block after the other fingers have made contact in all other positions. When the cover is removed a yellow fascia is revealed which is attached to the test block this gives a visual indication and warning that the protection scheme or relay is not in service. The insertion of the MMLB 01 test plug into the 2RMLG assembly (as shown in figs. 1 and 2) open circuits the contact pairs. The MMLB 01 has 28 test points each position being identified by a number which corresponds with the terminations on the 2RMLG. It is recommended that the protection scheme or relay is wired to the even numbers of the test module. To ensure the scheme wiring is routed logically it is recommended that the 2RMLG is always positioned on the right-hand side of the relay, when viewed from the front. The connections to other equipment such as CTs, VTs, and dc supplies should be made to the odd numbered terminals indicated on the 2RMLG. This will ensure that on connection of the MMLB, the sockets on the even numbered side of the test plug are the isolated relay circuits and the sockets on the odd numbered side are connected to the potentially live supplies as shown in Figure 3 & 4.
REYROLLE 83
Figures 1 & 2
Note: It is important that the sockets in the test plug (MMLB01&02) which correspond to the current transformer secondary windings are linked prior to the test plug being inserted into the test block. This will ensure that the current transformer secondary windings are short circuited prior to disconnection from the protection scheme or relay (as shown in Figure 3). If the The dc auxiliary supply is to be used during testing it can be linked using the sockets in the test plug. Operation of the contacts can be monitored by connecting the test equipment to the protection scheme or relay with the even numbered sockets of the test plug. If a number of 2RMLG test blocks are connected to a relay it is recommended that the dc supply be routed through each of them to safeguard against inadvertent operation. Single-finger Test Plug The Single Finger Test Plug consists of two contact blades each insulated from the other and each connected to a lead, as shown in Figure 1. This test finger is used to insert into individual test positions as shown in Figure 1 and is an alternative to the multi-fingered test plug. It is used to monitor the current in any of the circuits passing through the test module. Note: An ammeter set at the correct range should be connected to the leads prior to the plug being inserted, especially if a CT secondary circuit is being monitored. Mechanical Specification The 2RMLG is a size E2 unit in the Epsilon range of enclosures. The overall dimensions and panel fixing details are shown in Figure 9. The rear terminal block has 28 terminals each with an M4 screw outlet for the attachment of external wiring, fitted with L shaped pre-insulated ring tongue terminations. MLB series Multi-fingered test plugs The MLB series are inserted into the 2RMLG test socket and is securely retained by means of two knurled screws. The MMLB01 & 02 test plugs incorporate 28 test sockets, each socket accepting a 4mm diameter plug. MLB series Accessories The following are supplied with the MMLB01 test plug: 1. 4 short plug links. Each comprised of 50mm of interconnecting cable with a 4mm plug each end. 2. 4 long plug links. Each comprised of 150mm of interconnecting cable with a 4mm plug at each end. 3. 6 spare 4mm plugs. These accept up to 2.5sq. mm flexible insulated cable for test lead purposes. MMLB02 Single-fingered test plug The MMLB02 is supplied pre-wired with a length of 1sq. mm twin core flexible insulated cable. For polarity identification one core is black and the other is red. MMLB 07 CT Shorting The MMLB 07 is the same unit as the MMLB 01 with the addition of an integral ct shorting contact between terminals 21, 23, 25 & 27 and is coded to be used with the 2RMLG07 Test Socket only. 2RMLB 08 with Shorting Contacts The MMLB08 is identical to the MMLB01 with shorted contact pairs 1&3, 5&7, 9&11, 15&17 and is coded to be used with the 2RMLG08 Test Socket only. 4. PRECAUTIONS BEFORE inserting a Test Plug into a Test Socket carrying current transformer secondary circuits. ENSURE that the Test Plugs corresponding to the current transformer circuits are short-circuited. This is to ensure the current transformer secondary circuits are not inadvertently open-circuited during insertion of the last plug. BEFORE inserting a Test Plug to measure current. ENSURE that the ammeter is on the correct range and that it is connected to its test leads. 5. CONNECTIONS The connections will depend upon the scheme and details must be obtained from the appropriate diagrams. If it is necessary to use the d.c. auxiliary supply during testing, then a test link may be fitted across the sockets in the Test Plug.
