angeet Dhwanis 86th Concert focused this time, on two well-known Hindustani Classical Raags namely Chayanat and Maand, under the banner Zankaar One Raaga Series on February 5, at the Milpitas Library Auditorium. As many as 150 music aficionados were present throughout the three hour concert. It was satisfying to note that even though it was a Super bowl day, the audience made it a point to attend the concert, which was having well known professional artists. To mention a few characteristics of Chayanat raag, the lead Hindustani Classical Vocalist Ms.Lakshmi Kulkarni who is an eminent Classical Singer from Karnataka of India, explained that this Raag is a shrungara rasa raag belonging to the Bilaval that. The Vadi or the most emphasized swar in this raag is Pancham Samvadi or the second most important swar in this raag is Rishabh. This raag belongs to Shaadava Sampoorna Jaati which is considered a raga to be renditioned in the night. Aaroha: S R R G m P P D P P S and Avaroha: S N D P m G m R S. This raga comprises of two madhayams, however both teevra madhyam and komal nishad are seldom stressed upon. The

Ba aa je Lakshmi also explained a few nuances of Raag:Maand as beautiful which also belongs to the category of shrungaara rasa This allows for mishra or the mixing of many other raagas. D P D P N D P G m G R S This also is a night raag belonging to the Shaadava Sampoorna Jaati. Thumri, Kavvali and Bhajans are most usually performed when this raga is chosen. After explaining these nuances, Lakshmi Kulkarni sang a bandish in teen tal and the lyrics being Najariya tori mad bhareeli - baake rasiya saawariya kaanha. Lakshmis performance was spell binding to the audience. Lakshmis performance was followed by another well known Vocalist of Carnatic Music, Meera

Ramachandran who gave the distinctive characteristics of the raags in the Carnatic system and sang melodiously Thillana with a few melodious pieces in Raag Maand.

On the Instrumental segment, Ustad Surinder Mann played a few melodies on Raag Maand including some Hindi Movie Songs of Fifties and Sixties.
