At whAt point did you become interested in politics? whAt mAde you decide to run? I became interested while working for the BC provincial government as a legal researcher. I followed up by working for a strong political activist organization in India. Current FUSE board members started developing an effective Wheres The Funding?! campaign, which I saw as an opportunity to contribute many of the skills I picked up from different types of activism. would you consider pursuing politics beyond the scope of A university setting? I think that encouraging participation by building peoples capacities are an essential part of politics and making our society flourish, so I want to continue to do that throughout my life. which federAl politicAl pArty do your support/ feel most closely reflects your politics? The New Democratic Party reflects most of my interest in politics considering that they strongly advocate for marginalized people and creating a more stable society. hAve you ever been to A boArd meeting? Yes. whAt is your position on uvics smoking policy thAt bAns smoking inside ring roAd? I would rather see a designated smoking area inside ring road and more emphasis placed on safer consumption of alcohol. whAt is victoriAs first trAnsit At the boArd level, whAt chAnges cAn be mAde to increAse the uvss visibility on cAmpus, such As voter turnout, pArticipAtion, etc? Part of my effort on campus will be to make the UVSS more visible and accessible through social media and creating opportunities for critical discussion and feedback of how students want to get involved. whAt do you plAn on doing After grAduAtion And whAt kind of skills do you hope to Acquire on the uvss boArd? I plan on obtaining graduate training in neuropsychology and maintaining involvement in the community. I hope to build a stronger skill set for integrating activists into their communities. if you were to creAte Any course At uvic, whAt would it be And why? I would create a course on how to take ownership and build cohesiveness in your community by starting a community project. whAt is the best coffee on cAmpus? Munchie Bar. $1.25! priority? I would like the Public Transit system to make a stronger effort to reach out to the community to hear what their needs are. People in the community can be experts as well.
