MAN/MAED/MPA/PhD/EdD METHODS RESEARCH COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course deals with the application of research methodologies techniques in writing

thesis and dissertation. Graduate school students are required to conduct independent studies, design models and depend to the panel of tribunal for evaluation. OBJECTIVES Understand the concepts and roles of research. Analyze and synthesize the findings of research and its utilization. Familiarize with the different research tools. Recall the basic types of research, data and information in research. Formulate and write a thesis/dissertation proposal. REFERENCE Nursing research book GUIDELINES-METHODS OF RESEARCH A. The graduate student should read as many reference books in research as possible. You may analyze and compare the views of different authors. B. There are 8 units in the contents of the course outline For every topic on the contents, you are requested to answer the following questions: Unit I. The Research 1.1. 1.2. Define Research. Explain the purpose of the research. What are the characteristics and contributions of research?

Unit 2. Type of Research 2.1. Identify the different types of research and explain how it will be implemented. 2.2. Discuss the type of research which you intend to use in your nature study or research. Unit 3. The Problem 3.1. How will you select the topic/problem? Why did you select that topic/problem? 3.2. What are the types of variables in a research study? 3.3. Of what use are the related studies and literature to your study?

3.4. Why do we need to define the terms, words, or acronyms in your study? 3.5. What is the difference between theoretical and conceptual frameworks?

Unit 4. Instruments in Research 4.1. 4.2. 4.3. What are the types of instruments used in research? What are the characteristics of good instruments? How will you validate the questionnaires?

Unit 5. Statistical and Descriptive Data Analysis 5.1. What is statistics? Why is statistics needed in research? 5.2. What are the types of data? What is the difference between data and information? 5.3. What are the types of sampling? How will you select your samples? 5.4. Differentiate population from sample. 5.5. How will you present your data and information in the research study? 5.6. How will you test the hypotheses? What statistical treatment will you use? 5.7. When do we use the t-test and z-test? 5.8. How will you test the significant difference between two variables? Unit 6. Use of Reference Materials 6.1. How will you present the reference materials in your study? What is the difference between footnotes and bibliography? 6.2. How will you present your related studies and related literature in your study? Unit 7. Writing the Research Report 7.1. How will you write your theses proposal? (Chapters I to III) What tense will you use? 7.2. How will you write and type the report? (Follow the Format of a thesis) Unit 8. Evaluating the Research Study 8.1. What are the criteria and/or guidelines in evaluating the research report? 8.2. How will you present the bibliography? 8.3. How will you arrange the appendices?

8.4. What factors/elements are included in the abstract of the thesis? 8.5. Why is the curriculum vitae or bio-data necessary in the thesis report? The requirements for the course are: 1. Term paper: A thesis proposal consisting of Chapter I to III. 2. Comprehensive answers to the above questions. 3. Final examination at the end of term.
