How to identify your Road Demon

The Road Demon is a four-barrel carburetor with vacuumoperated secondary throttle plates. It can be recognized by its vacuum pod and its choke tower and choke mechanism. The Road Demon is available with either an electric or manual choke. The size of this carburetor can be identified by a single digit cast into the main body and also by the style of the boost venturii.

Road Demon To determine carburetor size, look for a single digit cast into the main body adjacent to the secondary vent tube and also the type of boost venturii (booster) employed. The cast digit will be 6 or 7, with a dimple, and the boosters will be either annular or down leg in the primary venturii and straight leg in the secondary venturii.

How to determine your Road Demons part number.


Your Road Demon will have at least seven or as many as ten numbers to form its complete part number. Fill in the rectangles below with the correct numbers.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 1. All Road Demons begin with the part number four as the first digit. Fill in the first rectangle with: 4 2. For the next four digits, 2-5, locate the number that is cast on top of the main body next to the secondary vent tube. If the number is 6 with a dimple, fill in rectangles 2-5 with: 2820 If the number is 7 with a dimple, fill in rectangles 2-5 with: 4020 3. For the next two digits, 6-7, look in the center section of the carburetor and determine which combination of boosters are used. The photograph (above right) shows an annular booster, a straight booster, and a downlegbooster. If the boosters are the annular + straight type, fill in rectangles 6-7 with: 20 If the boosters are the downleg + straight type, fill in rectangles 6-7 with: 10 4. 5. Does the carburetor have a Ford kickdown linkage? If YES, rectangle 9 will be: F and if a choke is present, rectangle 10 will be either: E (for Electric) or M (Manual choke) If NO, yet it has a choke, rectangle 9 will be either: E (for Electric) or M (Manual choke) and, if there is a single inlet fitting with a cross-over vent tube (see right), rectangle 10 will be: T for Trucker Series or W for Whip Series. Demon Whips have gold accents. 6. If no choke is present, is there a vacuum fitting located in the baseplate, directly under the center of the fuel bowl (as shown)?
