Solar Deck Lights And Solar Stair Lights - Significant Advantages And Drawbacks Solar powered lights just might be the right solution if the aim is saving money on your power bills. Solar lights are the most affordable and best option to illuminate and enrich the attractiveness of your patio, deck, landscape, or pathways. Solar outdoor lighting requires no electric resource and is therefore practically maintenance free and unproblematic to set up, even in hard-to-reach areas. You may essentially put them in and then forget about them for the reason that they are manufactured to run for a great number of years without any maintenance whatsoever. Nonetheless, previous to dashing out to the nearest hardware store to purchase some solar deck lights, solar stair lights, or various other lighting systems you will need to consider a couple of crucial factors. Decreasing electric bills is considered one of the chief advantages of solar deck lights. Low voltage outdoor lighting might decrease your electrical expenses tremendously, but gaining free power from the sunlight can get rid of your outside lighting expenditures totally. In addition to reducing electric costs it is also good for the environment. Employing solar energy as a substitute for electric energy will result in fewer green house gasses being emitted into the atmosphere, which is at all times a great thing. One more benefit of solar power is that it will not rely on electricity to work. How secure are you going to be when your high-priced electric security outside lighting system stops running because the electricity goes out? This is one of the concerns you won't experience by using solar deck lights. Decks and patios are ideal places for recreational get-togethers and parties, but without proper lighting they may only be taken advantage of during the day. By means of some fine solar patio lights you may enjoy it during the evening as well. And in view of the fact that a great number of patios are in close proximity to a back porch and additionally include stairs or steps, it is also a fine plan to install solar porch lights or solar stair lights. This will increase your safety while using these pathways. White and blue solar deck lights are generally the most pleasant to the eye, but you will discover them in a wide variety of other colors. In addition to standard deck lighting you have the choice to install solar string lights, flickering tree lights affixed to tiny tree branches, and various other sorts of outside lighting that can create a magical feeling to your home. They are easy to install due to the fact that they will not require any electrical wiring, and are not dangerous on account of their reduced voltage. As long as there is sufficient sunlight during the day for charging up, solar deck lights can yield light the entire night. The main disadvantage to solar power is that they require an adequate amount of sunlight to recharge their batteries each day. Solar deck lights are usually LED which will generate light for more than 100,000 hours. Nevertheless, if you don't get a sufficient amount of sunlight or live where the sun doesn't shine as often as you'd like, the rechargeable batteries may not get enough recharging throughout the day to run your outdoor lighting a very long time at night. Like other kinds of security lighting, solar deck lights can increase the security of a home by lighting an area all through the nighttime. You additionally have the choice to choose motion sensor lighting that will only turn on whenever motion is detected. And for nearly all decks, just four to six lights should be sufficient to illuminate the entire area. Furthermore, the only expenditure is the lights themselves. Once you have bought them you have no other expenses. The initial purchase price might seem somewhat pricey, but over a longer term they will enable you to save a large amount of money when compared to different varieties of outside lighting where lights have to be replaced often and high-priced electricity is necessary. Solar powered lights are usually not as powerful as their electric counterparts. They are not going to generate as intense of a light, but in lots of cases this is truly preferable. They are customarily found around decking, stairs, and walkways, and not for security reasons, on account of their decreased brightness amounts. Anonymous February 27, 2012 at 6:01 pm Noma Solar Powered Deck Lights? Just purchased 6 Noma solar powered deck lights; it seems some go on completely as nightfall sets in while a couple of the others continue to flicker off and on for several hours. They are all well under sun light during the day and are getting the same amount of solar recharging; weve had them for about 2 weeks. Does anyone know why this is happening or could they be defective? Should we take out batteries & replace? Any light (no pun intended) anyone can shed would be appreciated.

It does sound like they are defective. It sounds like the circuit to turn the lights on is not working. Check the photo-cell on those lights to see if it is clean. Its best for you to just return those and get new ones. Below is a link that may help you.

antony February 29, 2012 at 9:15 am Wher can I buy a solar outdoor light that complies with The National Electrical Code in USA? I built a new deck in my house with a new entrance door. I want to use a solar operated outdoor light so I dont have to apply for an electrical permit from the city. Can somebody give me the manufacturer and catalog number?

TechnoStuff March 9, 2012 at 12:31 am I dont think that the NEC has anything to do with an independant solar powered light. They might have a U.L. listing but thats a different thing entirely. I would assume that any solar powered lighting unit that you find available at a retail store would have any necessary agency approvals.

You dont need an electrical permit, nobody will inspect it. When you think about it, we are just talking about a flashlight with a solar panel to charge the battery. No permit needed. Firearms yes, flashlights no.

Screwdriver bit, hole saw, I am not sure I know what you mean, but Ill bet Ive got one. I would say you will need a screwdriver bit(phillips/flat), a drill bit large enough for the wires(if there are any), and possibly a hole saw(to cut a foundation for the base of the light), and likely some screws. I am available and my rates are cheap.

jjcolombo2 March 5, 2012 at 6:20 am are there deck railin g adaptors for pathway lights ? we have solar path lights with removable pointed stakes. Are there adapters that can replace the ground stakes and mount on a deck?

xxxixpats March 5, 2012 at 6:31 am White Solar Deck Lights? Hi thanks everyone for reading my post, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to take yellow tarnishing off white solar deck lights. I purchased white solar deck lights about 2-3 years ago and recently saw that they were all beginning to tarnish a yellow color. It seems out of place with all the white posts on the deck so I was wondering if there was a way to return them to there original white color.

im looking around for some path way lights for the side of my house on along a walkway. and i was looking at solar path lights and low voltage which requires wires and a power source. i know low voltage are harder to install but thats not a problem for me haha. but yea i was wondering which were better because its a dark area and the solar ones dont look bright enough. answer with a link also to show me some ideas. its a step stone along the side of the drive way then at the end of it it turns into a deck like walkway thats like a couple inches off the ground. so if you can find lights that you think would look really nice with that (you dont have to if you cant picture it) thanks allot.

Low Voltage all the way. Solar technology has not been perfected yet. The solar lights on the market are expensive and do not put out enough light. I have done my own experimentation into solar lighting. You can build a solar lighting system from scratch yourself that will put out the same amount of light as low voltage but the starting cost is around three thousand dollars. So again solar technology is not yet perfected. I would not suggest the inexpensive low voltage hardware store lights but they are still better than solar. You may want to find a local lighting store and look at their lights. Below are links to three of the professional landscape light manufacturers.

I dont believe these are solar lights, but Rockler has a VERY large selection of deck lights. Everything from lighted post caps, deck lights that mount right on the deck, to lights that are flush with the surface of the deckboards. Like I said, there are a lot of lights here, take time to browse thru them. Have Fun

Lights for decking to create an effective ambience? I dont want inbuilt lights nor solar. I have an outside weatherproof box for electric cables and was thinking of string bamboo party lights or something similiar. Can anyone tell me what they have used or can recommend what they have seen elsewhere. Thanks!

Yes string lights can look cheery. You could also buy a low voltage lighting system from B&Q etc which plugs straight into a socket, and you cant get an electric shock. You buy the thin cable and attach any of several different lights available, you can also attach dot lights that can be hung or laid out on the floor of the deck.
