ORACLE COMMUNICATIONS ASAP 7.0 NEW FEATURES

KEY FEATURES Enhanced Performance Enhanced Reliability (support for Oracle RAC) New Reporting Capabilities Design Studio Activation Task API Modernization Removal of IONA Domain Enhancements KEY BENEFITS Superior flow-through activation performance Simplified integration with the Oracle Communications Portfolio Extended out-of-box domain coverage for quad-play operators

Oracle Communications ASAP is the market leading activation platform of consumer oriented services, supporting broadband, multi-play and mobile technologies. It enables flow-through activation across multiple network elements and application servers on a single, reliable and high performance platform This data sheet provides an overview of the new features and enhancements that are delivered with Oracle Communications ASAP 7.0. It may be used as a guideline to help you assess the business benefits of ASAP 7.0 and plan your information technology (IT) projects and investments.
Enhanced Performance
ASAP is the leading multi-service activation platform in the communications industry today. Its highly scalable performance-driven architecture has been proven across a wide range of deployments worldwide, from Greenfield startups to large metropolitan and regional service provides, wireless/mobile operators, fixed operators and MSOs for a variety of traditional, current and next-generation services. With the software enhancements made in ASAP 7.0.2, ASAP delivers on average a 25% performance improvement over earlier versions of ASAP when tested on the same hardware platform. Scalability is critical to meeting the needs of tierone service providers and ASAP continues to lead the market in this regard, setting the benchmarks even higher.

Enhanced Reliability
ASAP 7.0 provides improved reliability in the event of a Database disruption. If the Database resource becomes unavailable due to a connection problem (e.g., connection closed by a firewall due to Idle time) or a database RAC node failover, the ASAP Control Server detects the connection problem and attempts to re-establish the connection. Once connectivity to the Database is re-established, the Control Server automatically restarts any ASAP processes that may have shutdown. This feature makes use of the Oracle database installed in a RAC configuration.

Advanced Reporting Using BI Publisher

Oracle Communications ASAP 7.0 supports advanced reporting capabilities via Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher (BI Publisher). Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher is an enterprise reporting solution to author, manage, and deliver all types of highly formatted documents. Reports can be viewed online or scheduled for delivery to a wide range of destinations. A set of pre-configured reports will be supplied with this release. With these reports you are able to gain insight into the operational efficiencies of ASAP by viewing data on:

Integrated Support with Oracle Communications Design Studio

Oracle Communications Design Studio provides a powerful, rich graphical design environment to extend and build cartridges. Design Studio reduces the complexity and time to work with cartridges and includes tools and functions to increase productivity of cartridge developers. All ASAP cartridges are extended or built using Design Studio in a similar fashion as Oracle Communications OSM, UIM and Network Integrity. The Activation plug-in for Design Studio that is compatible with this release is Design Studio for Activation 3.1.3.

Design Studio Activation Task

The Design Studio Activation Task is a strategic component used in the design-time integration between Oracle Communications Order and Service Management (OSM) and ASAP. Using the Activation Task, communication service designers can easily configure (rather than code) ASAP automated tasks and insert them into OSM process flows, reducing complexity and effort of integration. Key features of the Activation Task include: Drag-and-drop GUI functionality to map OSM order data to ASAP service action parameters Map events and exceptions returned by ASAP using the same GUI Update OSM order data with additional information returned from ASAP Redo capabilities to support a sophisticated order compensation strategy

API Modernization: Removal of Corba SRP

ASAP 7.0 removes the dependency of the IONA Orbix third-party component from the product. The CORBA SRP, which relied on IONA, has been discontinued in release 7.0 and customers are encouraged to migrate to the Web Services or JSR-089 OSS Service Activation

API, which is available in XML/JMS. The OCA Client has been migrated such that it no longer relies on the CORBA SRP to communicate with the SARM there is no functional change to the OCA Client. Removal of IONA reduces the overall complexity of the system and modernizes the application by removing the older CORBA technology.

Expanded Domain Coverage

Using a flexible, modern, standards based architecture for activating services across a variety of technology domains is critical to the success of service providers and multiple systems operators (MSOs). With ASAP 7.0.1, Oracle Communications has introduced three new ASAP Cartridges for the broadcast video domain. These cartridges will help you automate your provisioning needs for digital T.V. subscribers, allowing you to cost effectively scale your business while reducing operational costs. Coupled with the proven domain coverage of ASAP within the mobile, broadband and digital telephony domains, MSOs are able to use a single service fulfillment stack to provision and activate all subscriber services including digital video. The three cartridges introduced with ASAP 7.0.1 are: Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for Motorola DAC Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for Cisco DNCS Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for SeaChange Axiom On Demand

Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for Motorola DAC

To support the growing demand that Multiple Systems Operators (MSO) require a consolidated BSS/OSS architecture that has pre-integrated software components, Oracle Communications ASAP introduces an Activation Cartridge to provision commands on the Motorola Digital Addressable Control (DAC) System. The Motorola DAC is the gateway to activating set-top boxes and supports actions such as, managing set-top boxes, adding or changing channel maps, configuring Conditional Access rights, administrating Pay Per View (PPV) programming, etc. The ASAP Activation Cartridge for the Motorola DAC simplifies the activation requirements by masking the complexity of the Motorola WireLink protocol.

Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for Cisco DNCS

To support the growing demand that MSOs require a consolidated BSS/OSS architecture that has pre-integrated software components, Oracle Communications ASAP introduces an Activation Cartridge to provision commands on the Scientific-Atlanta (a Cisco company) Digital Network Control System (DNCS). The DNCS is the gateway to activating digital home communications terminals (DHCT) and supports actions such as, registering a DHCT, adding or changing channel maps, configuring Conditional Access rights, administrating Pay Per View (PPV) programming, etc.

Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for SeaChange Axiom On Demand

The Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge for the SeaChange Axiom Movies On Demand application allows operators to automate their business flows from the BSS/OSS layer to the Movies On Demand system. Automating the activation of their video-on-demand (VOD) services enables operators to scale the business and reduce per transaction costs. Interfacing with SeaChange's Axiom SOAP/XML based API, the Oracle Communications ASAP Cartridge provides interfaces to Subscriber and Offer management capabilities. Utilizing the cartridge in the BSS/OSS layer, operators can now rapidly create subscription packages, promotional offers and dynamically define business rules such as pricing. The end result is delivering superior customer satisfaction while monetizing on the available on-demand content within the operator.
