Mentoring with experienced and engaged CIOs who lead and guide Diverse participants across industries and geographies Focused on business & leadership competencies

The Pathways Leadership Development program is designed to prepare VPs, IT managers, directors and executives for the many challenges they will face as future CIOs. The CIO Executive Council recognizes the individual needs of each participant and provides subsequent offerings for advancing skills specifically in leadership development and career advancement. This aligns and follows the development as outlined in The Councils Journey to the Future-State CIO. Participants have the opportunity to engage in one of three business development curriculum based on their own individual development needs.

CIO Group Mentoring

Pathways participants will be assigned to an experienced, business savvy CIO mentor and a small mentoring group consisting of 6-8 participants. Using the results of an individuals assessments and application, we match the appropriate CIO mentor and participant peers to create a two-way learning environment. The engagement kicks off with a one-to-one orientation between the participant and their mentor. The group will meet virtually for six sessions over the course of six to eight months and will conclude their engagement with another individual CIO mentor/mentee call. Through group mentoring participants will: Connect in highly interactive discussion forums Interact within small groups matched with one accomplished CIO Continually review professional challenges in a supportive environment Take advantage of the counsel of a seasoned CIO Discuss day-to-day challenges as well as longer term suggestions for improvement Have an opportunity to meet face-to-face at the Leadership event

One of the most rewarding opportunities that is provided by the Pathways program is the CIO Mentorship Program. I have been more than fortunate to have been a part of two mentorship workgroups, both led by two outstanding CIOsthis year that was followed by dedicated one-on-one coaching with one of the best CIOs in the business.

The universal executive competencies, as determined by Egon Zehnder International, a global executive recruiter and talent assessment firm, shown to have the greatest impact on an IT executives success are as follows:
n

Results Orientation Being focused on improvement of business results not just IT results. By making IT priorities the same as the business, IT can become a key driver to improving contribution levels and accomplishing the goals of the business. Market Knowledge Understanding the market landscape in which a business operates, which includes the competition, the suppliers, the customer base and the regulatory environment. External Customer Focus Serving and building strategic partnerships with external clients, vendors and customers. Understanding the advantages to managing these relationships in order to get measurable results, such as cost savings and improved service. Commercial Orientation Identifying and moving towards business opportunities, such as seizing chances to increase profit and revenue. Strategic Orientation The ability to think long-term and beyond ones own area. It involves three key dimensions: business awareness, critical analysis and integration of information, and the ability to develop an action-oriented plan. People & Organizational Development Developing the long-term capabilities of others and of the organization as a whole in order to achieve successful results, as well as influencing or even transforming someones life or career. Collaboration & Influence Working effectively with and influencing those inside and outside of your functional area, and creating a positive impact on business performance. Change Leadership Transforming and aligning an organization through its people to drive improvement in new and challenging directions. It is energizing a whole organization to want to change in the same direction. Team Leadership Focusing, aligning and building effective groups both within ones immediate organization and across functions.

My experience with Pathways has been rewarding, enlightening and a lot of fun. I have connected with a diverse group of smart professionals who have helped to shape my future direction the level of expertise was tremendous and invaluable.
